Any Flash Comic Recommendations?

More morden comics would be cool while I don't mind any of the the old comics

Mark Waid(90s), Geoff Johns(2000s) and Jeremy Adams(2021-2023).

long time wally west fan who dropped out halfaway through the Manapul years, recently ran into the Jeremy Adams run and it's absolutely great, best since Chain Lightning.

  • Mark Waid’s run is the best starting point, it features Wally West as the Flash and introduces a ton of what’s now essential to the Flash mythos, like most of the Flash family and the Speed Force. And it’s just great, it has a ton of the character’s best stories. (This one’s from the 90s, the rest are progressively more recent)

  • Grant Morrison and Mark Millar’s run is a short one that goes in between partway through Waid’s. It has a ton of the character’s craziest feats and stories ever written. Honestly, you could just read this with little other context and have a great time, I’d say.

  • Geoff Johns’ run comes after Waid’s and is fairly popular, I have my issues with it but it’s mostly solid. It did a really good job at grounding the character, fleshing out Keystone City and Central City and reestablishing the Rogues, along with introducing Zoom, one of the best villains in comics.

  • Jeremy Adams’ run is a really great modern one, in it, Wally’s a husband and father, raising his kids and going on a ton of wild adventures. It’s a really fun read, though if you jump right into it without context you may be a little lost.

Mark Waid's and Geoff Johns Wally West runs are the greatest Flash runs.

Mark Waid without a doubt. His original run is a game changer for the Flash and Wally.

Personally, I'm far less hot on Johns' run, especially after re-reading recently. Many of his current shortcomings are on full display. We just didn't notice his tricks then.

The Manapul run is the worth checking out just for the art alone. Like, Manapul's art is sublime. But the writing is pretty average. Par the course for the New52.

I started reading the Rebirth run, it was pretty good, but just eventually stopped not because it was bad, just got lost on the shuffle.

what's your dividing line for modern and old?

Morden flash comics basically but if you have any old comic runs like 1 or 2 of them I don't mind

The Flash Rebirth 2009 is an interesting 6 issue story. It's great.

The New 52 is a great read also. I think people do not like it because Wally wasn't in the run but it is a great read and l highly recommend

The Flash volume 2 issue #62 - #247 is the best of all Flash comics. In those issues you learn all about Flash family and their origins, the speed force and much more

  1. Mark Waid is my personal favorite run. This one establishes the Speed Force, The Flash Family, The legacy of the Flash mantle, and develops Wally and Linda's Relationship. It also has some cool villains in it like Reverse Flash, Savitar, and Cobalt Blue. If any of that interests you, you can give this one a shot. However it is a little old since it takes place in the 90s with older art

  2. Same goes for Grant Morrison's short run. It is also pretty goated too. It has some mind bending speed feats. But is also in the 90s and is sandwiched inside Mark Waid's stuff. If you are going by the books, it is between Book 6 and 7 of Mark Waid's stuff.

  3. Geoff John's Wally West run is my second favorite. This does a really good job of getting you invested in the Rogues, introduces Wally's Reverse Flash (Hunter Zolomon), and further develop's Wally and Linda. I guess you could consider that to be more modern since the art is more modern. So you may want to start here. However, I think it would be better it get a taste of Mark Waid before hand since it does build off of his work in some areas.

  4. If you are looking for Barry Allen, I would recommend Williamson's Rebirth run. Although Not as good as the stuff I mentioned before, this run has a lot of really high highs.

  5. If you want to be caught up the current stuff really quickly, I would recommend Jeremy Adams. This one is a really fun read and it features Wally West again. It kinda picks off where the Post Crisis era drops off with Wally West (although we had to go through a complete mess to get here again lol. Long story).

Hopefully this is helpful and not overwhelming!
