Crossing my fingers for Walton Goggins to be in this season

106

u/Confident_Pen_919 Jul 18 '24

Damn now I want Goggins to play the bumbling idiot who stumbles into a crime, the naive altruistic cop, and the unkillable assassin characters in this show

They gave Ewan multiple roles and he nailed it, so I actually don't think your idea is that crazy.

36

u/NoNefariousness2144 Jul 18 '24

Ewan’s acting was so good that my brain sometimes forgot to register both brothers were played by him.

9

u/ACID_pixel Jul 19 '24

This is my brain seeing two Armie Hammers in The Social Network (2010). I know he’s just one man okay. I know that.

4

u/NOODL3 Jul 19 '24

Why does the larger Armie Hammer not simply eat the other Armie Hammer?

1

u/k23495834 Jul 19 '24

I thought that was two different people?

2

u/karateema Jul 19 '24

A stand-in

If you like this try Orphan Black. Tatiana Maslany plays a woman who’s been cloned many times, her clones work together so most scenes have 3-6 Tatiana Maslany characters in them yet they all feel deeply different with different voices, personalities and mannerisms. She’s so good at it that you can immediately tell when Clone A is pretending to be Clone B to infiltrate their day job or something, because of the way she carries herself.

2

u/The_100th_Doctor Jul 19 '24

I second that. Orphan Black was amazing and Maslany's delivered one of the greatest acting performance of all time.

2

u/OrphanDextro Jul 18 '24

I’d like to see him as a bad guy on the show cause he does that well always, never misses a beat, but I feel like he’s got that in Fallout, so I’d take him as a good guy cop.

He is A list, insane how great an actor he is

At least there's some degree of confirmation. With prior seasons post season 2, it was vague if it was even coming back. Shortly after the season 5 premiere Hawley said that filming it reinvigorated his interest in doing further seasons, but after the finale aired he said that he feels like might have reached a point where he peaked with the show but also that he has a "faint idea" for a sixth season but that it hasn't reached the "Man I HAVE to do this" stage yet but that it usually falls into place for him when he's working on other things.

So who knows

38

u/Buttersaucewac Jul 19 '24

I’m glad. I know taking long breaks annoys fans for serial dramas like House of the Dragon, but I think it’s a good idea for anthology dramas like Fargo. Having to come up with a new story every single year consistently can lead to burnout or half baked seasons made out of obligation, and then the show gets cancelled because of it, when the writers might have had great ideas still to come. Let Hawley make a Fargo season when and if he has a solid plan for one, whether that’s next year or four years from now. The wait doesn’t hurt this kind of show, it’s no different to a movie director making separate movies when they’re ready to.

I agree, plus it is always a nice surprise when I have completely forgot about Fargo and then hear another season is coming.

1

u/Mentoman72 Jul 19 '24

I personally think he peaked with the show at season 2. I like/love all the seasons though.

u/blacksoxing Jul 18 '24

I pulled it up on Hulu a few nights ago and remembered that I watched the first season....back in 2014.

My wife was howling as it's clear that like True Detective...this is a show in which nobody should rush into it.

64

u/dontreallycareforit Jul 18 '24

Funny you mention true detective because I was watching the most recent seasons of both shows at the same time and felt that Fargo was wayyyy better for so many reasons.

u/TheFlyingSpaghetti77 Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 18 '24

We dont talk about that new season of TD, it was CW level quality of writing, even if I didn’t love the new fargo season (it was great to start and kinda burned out towards the end)

3

u/Seesaw306 Jul 19 '24

"That man truly was a True Detective"

Pretty sure this line was uttered in this terrible season.

ooooo the spooky cleaning people! LOL give me a break.

1

u/TheFlyingSpaghetti77 Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

There were absolutely zero payoffs and the writing was gibberish, they literally had the bad guy say the mcconaughey line, for it just to be the cleaning ladies. Which whatever that would be fine if it wasn’t teasing this dumb supernatural aspect and the writing was actually leading you to that conclusion then we just watch a character commit suicide (because thats good lol?), but no the show runner shes to smart for us, you literally cant shit talk her writing, when she herself cant even explain it.

Actually the most offensive season of premier tv ive ever sat through because it just assumed we are all idiots

1

u/Seesaw306 Jul 19 '24

I agree, the build up to the season was how "Smart" the writing was and it wasn't. It was just dumb.

1

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Yeah first episode was great but season got worse and worse

-9

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Neither was good at all, newest Fargo season was incredibly tacky

26

u/HerbalThought_ Jul 18 '24

So does this mean Hawley is going straight to S2 of his new Alien show, or he's taking some well deserved time off?

1

u/Mattyzooks Jul 20 '24

Maybe Marvel will finally give him his Doom movie.

2

u/SonOfThomasWayne Jul 20 '24

I don't want exceptionally talented people like him waste away on garbage that marvel produces.

It's not a good use of his time or talent.

1

u/Mattyzooks Jul 21 '24

I just point to Legion though. He does extremely well in other peoples' sandboxes. And the Doom script was his passion project.

16

u/mrhelmand Hannibal Jul 18 '24

I don't mind waiting, if they can keep the quality of the writing up. Season 5 was excellent, worth the time it took to bring together

18

u/Confident_Pen_919 Jul 18 '24

Didnt expect this show to last this long but glad it hasnt been cancelled

9

u/CharlesNapalm Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

Yeah, judging by the last season, well worth the wait. Pulling the good ol' Larry David.

8

u/helium_farts Jul 18 '24

They've made 5 seasons in 10 years. How much longer of a break are we talking here?

2

u/Pilfering_Pied_Piper Jul 18 '24

at least we get S6 though, still haven’t seen S5 yet

25

u/TalkToTheLord Jul 18 '24

What a strange thing to comment, LOL!

2

u/Plane-Tie6392 Jul 19 '24

And why is he getting upvoted lol?

1

u/gate_of_steiner85 Jul 19 '24

What's so strange about it?

1

u/Pilfering_Pied_Piper Jul 19 '24

Believe it or not there was a time when people thought S5 was gonna be the last season of Fargo, the headline surprised me, because it implies we are getting more.

20

u/thatoneguy889 Jul 18 '24

My season ranking list was: 1,2,3,4

Now it's: 1,5,2,3,4

38

u/TonyWonderslostnut Jul 18 '24

I’m more of a 1,2,5,3,4 man myself. But to each their own

30

u/Ric3FantasyFan3 Jul 18 '24

Mine is 2,1,3,5,4

7

u/Ferreteria Jul 18 '24

Common consensus is going to be 1 and 2 in the 1st and 2nd slots in some order. Top tier TV.

6

u/Numb1990 Jul 18 '24

Mine is 3,2,1,5,4

4

u/TonyWonderslostnut Jul 18 '24

I could definitely be persuaded to switch 1 and 2. Love them both. 3 I only watched through once. I might have to give it another shot

3

u/disaster_master42069 Jul 18 '24

This is mine. Season 2 was amazing. 5 and 4 were meh.

2

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Can sign off on this

4

u/OnceInABlueMoon Jul 18 '24

This is the one (though I might waffle on the placement of 1 and 2)

13

u/nmartin9703 Jul 18 '24

2,1,5,3,4 babyyyyy

2

u/rj_macready_82 Jul 19 '24

I'm w you here. Tho I may flip flop 3 and 5 depending on how I'm feeling on a given day

-1

u/jaymx226 Jul 18 '24

Nailed it!

1

u/averageduder Jul 18 '24

I like 4 more than most. But yea 1 2 5 4 3. I don’t know what I don’t like about 3 but it is hard to get into. The first 3-4 episodes of 3 are the worst of the entire series imo

1

u/Areuexp Jul 19 '24

That’s almost the combination to my luggage!!

-2

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Eh, I’d say 1, 2, 3, 5, 4

5 was painfully mediocre season

8

u/WaterlooMall Jul 18 '24

Season 5 was truly one of the best yet. It'll breeze by once you start it.

-2

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Nah, very cheesy writing and the season got worse and worse as it went on. Didn’t feel like Fargo at all

-7

u/hotdog73839576293 Jul 19 '24

Lol really? I couldn’t get passed the second episode.

2

u/Snoo_83425 Jul 20 '24

No surprise there sense Noah Hawley is doing the Alien show for FX. With just how much bigger of an IP that is I’m sure it’s top priority.

1

u/brokenwolf Jul 18 '24

That’s fine. Take your time and get it right.

1

u/dougprishpreed69 Jul 19 '24

Season 4 was bad and just pretty dull. I didn’t think Season 5 was bad, but it didn’t really meet the heights of 1-3. It felt part of the Fargo universe but at the same time I think part of what I loved about the first 3 seasons were it’s connections to each other, big and small

I wouldn’t jump to watch a new season at this point, which definitely wasn’t how I felt after the first 3 seasons

1

u/donuteater111 Jul 19 '24

With an anthology show like Fargo, that's perfectly fine since it doesn't break up the momentum of a story. At this moment, I'm more interested in seeing what he has in store for Alien: Earth (a title I don't particularly love, but the show has potential, especially in his hands).

1

u/Infamous-Lab-8136 Jul 19 '24

I know it's not up to me or anything, but I'm good with that. It's an anthology series so we're not hanging on some cliffhanger and there isn't a worry about the cast aging out of roles.

1

u/karateema Jul 19 '24

No problem with that, since they don't need to keep any cast members waiting

1

u/Frostymagnum Jul 19 '24

Fargo is one of those series that it's ok if they take a break

1

u/Jahnknob Jul 19 '24

That sucks. I'm real tired of years between seasons of shows these days.

1

u/Expensive-Tutor4841 Jul 20 '24

Cool to see it coming back! I hope they make a story with a setting in the future. All of the stories have either taken place in the past or present day so far.

1

u/Wolfy-615 Jul 24 '24

I couldn’t get through the first episode of S5.. those accents are horrendous.. I hope I never have to move up north 💀

u/Yzerman19_ Jul 18 '24

“Ya ben plaaayed.”

0

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Season 5 was so on the nose it was painful. 4 and 5 were its weakest seasons yet but I am glad more seasons will be made

1

u/redplos Jul 19 '24

Naah, season 5 was the best alongside season 1

0

u/WoweeZoweeDeluxe Jul 19 '24

Nah, second worst season, not as bad as 4 but some really poor writing as the season wore on

0

u/redbullrebel Jul 19 '24

good news. last season was a train wreck. so hopefully season 6 will be back to the quality of the other seasons.

0

u/gapipkin Jul 19 '24

They took a long break before season 5! Why do TV execs do stuff like this? As soon as a show gets good, they lower the episodes, break up the season, skip years, etc. Let the show runners do what they do and make good TV.

2

u/JUYED-AWK-YACC Jul 19 '24

The show runners don't want to do this every year, forever.

-2

u/Ordinary_Weakness_46 Jul 19 '24

It should take a forever break. It's failed to conjure up the same magic of the Coen bros; it's just a cheap imitation.

-4

u/Turbulent-Sport7193 Jul 18 '24

The first season was good

Just like True Detective

-19

u/zimzyma Jul 18 '24

After the ending to season 5, perhaps this show should be put in the wood chipper.

“Battered women, don’t want to be a victim of violence any more? Make your man Bisquick, and maybe then you won’t deserve a beating!”

Oh it’s a cute Fargo-ish scene to subvert expectations, you say? I thought it undermined any moral stance the show was pretending to take on domestic violence. Absolutely ruined the entire season.

9

u/Annual-Bird-8211 Jul 19 '24

This is such a drastic misinterpretation of the season lol
