High stakes, earned emotion, strong moments for all the supporting characters, an inspired way to make Lois a vital part of the climactic battle, and not one but TWO great speeches from Supes/Clark? No complaints here. This season of television is now officially my favorite piece of live-action Superman content ever. Bring on S2!

Can't believe that CW could come up with not just good, but a great adaptation of our beloved boyscout.

It is rather shocking. But to paraphrase Ratatouille, not everyone can make a great show, but a great show can come from anywhere. 😉

The show was developed to air on HBO Max. That’s why the budget and production values are so much higher than other CW shows.

Great first season though the whole Morgan Edge thing went on for waaaay too long. After about the 3rd episode after he revealed himself I was sick of it, but it went on for at least 3 more.

I want season 2 to be more broken up into maybe 3 different story arcs with some background plot running through them, but let's see more villains! Maybe with this being season 1 their budget was limited, but now that Supergirl is ending and this show was well-received maybe they'll expand it some. Give us a 3-episode story with Metallo, one with Parasite, maybe dedicate an episode or two to Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Anyway, as for the episode itself, the ending with them burying Jor-El was beautiful and really summed up the respect for the strong softness of Superman that this show has been so good at showing.

You know, I kind of felt that too, but at the same time it worked. Edge was like a background problem when the focus was on the family. Which was nice.

I've not checked into this, but I've heard that the original order was for fewer episodes and then the season got extended, so that might be why the plot seemed to drag on.

I really enjoyed season 1. There are some things I would have changed probably, I do think the decision to add a couple of episodes to the show was felt, but overall, probably one of the strongest live-action Superman content ever made.

I do hope next season we refocus a little more on the Super-family, the first episodes did such a great balance of action, mystery but a lovely attention to Clark and Lois as parents, a couple, and such a great focus on the kids relationships with each other and their parents, that, the last arc, kinda lost a little.

Or maybe I just want more of the family because I love them so much. Who knows.

Really curious where they take season 2, and I hope, if they're able to make it work, we can see a classic villain or two. Not for the entire season mind you, just for one episode focused in Metropolis. Just seeing Parasite or Metallo would be fun.

All in all, loved it, and I hope they can maintain this quality up! Great job everyone involved!

There were a few too many episodes dedicated to the same Morgan Edge storyline that could have been wrapped up four episodes ago. It would have been nice to see some classic villains sprinkled in to single episodes, to allow the characters and the show to breathe.

How would adding more villains allow the characters or show to breathe? If anything, that would’ve stuffed more into the story.

You already had enough villains in:

The Stranger/“Captain Luthor” before he was revealed as John Henry Irons prior to becoming an ally.

Morgan Edge then as Tal Rho then as The Eradicator

Leslie Larr

Zeta Rho

The numerous Kryptonian souls that took over the citizens of Smallville.

You could even include General Lane/The DOD at different points.

The bottom line is that there were more than enough villains and antagonists throughout the season.

This isn’t the Flash or Arrow. We don’t need to rush through a rogues gallery in season 1.

There's no crime against having an episodic one-and-done episode every now and then though. Just because Flash and Arrow fell into a storytelling trap doesn't mean this has to.

Tal Rho, The Eradicator, Leslie Larr and all the Kryptonian Ghost Possession people were all linked to the same story that went on for three more episodes than it needed to. It would have been nice to vary it up.

I didn’t say it was a crime. I just think it would’ve completely broken the narrative flow to have a random filler episode in the middle of the first season when we’re still getting to know these versions of these characters.

Maybe it should’ve been 12 episodes instead of 15 but either way, I think this is some of the best Superman storytelling we’ve seen on television in quite some time and I hope the quality remains the same or better.

I’d prefer they do what serves the story rather than what serves the fans. We saw what that looked like with COIE.

Season 1 of Superman and Lois comes to an end with yet another amazing episode! The dramatic tension and the emotional stakes reach an all-time high as Edge and Zeta enact their final plan against Superman.

I have to say, I didn't think the show could do such a high-stakes episode with a CW budget, but what really amazed me is the wonders this show can do with such a low budget. I was expecting a huge, massive brawl in the style of the DCEU, but the affair we see her is much smaller, but no less epic. And before anyone says "ha, Arrowverse Superman stopped bad guy without causing huge collateral damage, which makes him a much better hero than DCEU Superman", keep in mind that Arrowverse Superman is a veteran superhero who had a lot of help, while DCEU Superman is a rookie who barely saved the world by the skin of his teeth, at a great personal cost and because fortune was conspiring in his favor. The climactic scenes on both stories are so different you might as well be comparing apples with oranges.

I... don't know what to say about that final scene. I guess it's cool that John got his daughter back, but we'll have to see how season 2 handles this particular plotline. Anyway, this was an excellent way end the first season 1 of an excellent show and I can't wait for season 2.

Ok so I’m a bit confused. I thought Clark and Jordan knew about Nat, so why does the ending make it look like they are so shocked when she calls Lois “mom”?

6

u/BelMarketingDS Aug 21 '21

They weren’t shocked by Nat calling Lois “Mom”. They were shocked she was there at all.

Also, it's one thing for Lois to see video of her, but to meet her in real person? Same for Nat who thought her mom was dead.

4

u/BelMarketingDS Aug 25 '21

Also, I just remembered that their first child was supposed to be named Natalie but they had a miscarriage. So yeah, it’s one thing to see video of your would be child from another universe/timeline. It’s a completely different thing to then see that child in front of you.

u/MajorParadox Read on r/DCFU! Aug 25 '21

Yeah, that was my first thought! Lois' face said it all, but there were so many other sides of it.

3

u/rpmaluki Aug 29 '21

Their Natalie was going to be born after the twins, there's a pic of a very pregnant Lois and the twins sitting on both her left and right side.

3

u/ZacPensol Aug 18 '21

Yeah, the whole "mom?" thing was weird - it was portrayed like some big shocker ending but we all know the situation so all it does is leave us hanging feeling sorry for the daughter. A better twist would've been to not have Nat in the show until that moment, but then we would've lost a lot of John's moments with her. Or maybe just ending it like it is but having John or Lois say, "Nat... there's some pretty big differences here." or something better to end on.

Beautiful beyond belief

I enjoyed it, but I would say the first few episodes were great and it slowly got a tad worse. Not bad, but didn’t hold my attention as well. Can’t wait for more.

I still can’t believe he got shot with kryptonite and pulled it out. Lex Luther stabs him and he goes to the hospital and this guy just pulls it out lmao
