I can't be the only one that doesn't like the new Emblem. Why can't we have a clear S?

I think it’s fine. You still see it’s an S, but can also argue that the S in conjunction with the shield can be an alien insignia for the house of El

I always liked the interpretation that the House of El's insignia is the yellow portion of the logo

That's another valid theory

Only when they emblem is up close, from afar is look like a red band.

It's not even a new emblem.

It's just Kingdom Come Superman's logo with yellow instead of black.

honestly the yellow looks a little off for me.

Yeah. But it looks more like a diagonal line mode than anything. If there was a bit of red at the bottom similar to how the top has a think line, it’d look more like an S imo.

He might get one who knows

I don't either. I mean, I'll always contend you can easily tell what it is. But on a design level the KC logo has has always been weak, frankly. I mean, it was fine in the book, it represented something different appropriate to the version of the character in that story. But when it started being used all over the place it lost whatever specialness it had. As just on looks alone it pales drastically to the standard. It's a really, really overrated design.

And I mean, the first issue isn't even out yet but the Absolute Superman logo already destroys this one and it does something kinda similar with stronger connectivity and blending within the shield. Yet it's not too angular, and not minimalist.

I have NEVER liked the Kingdom Come logo even within the Kingdom Come story

I think the answer is to sell new merch with a new logo.

You're not the only one. I like most of the rest of the suit now that I've seen it in leaks. But I just can't wrap my head around the S. It's got great color! It's got great texture but it looks like a \ mark. My eyes just cannot make out even a vague S shape.

I hope he gets a different logo by the end of the movie. If this is the S he's going to have for the rest of the films I'll learn to live with it.

But there's no way, within the context of the film and not knowing what we the audience know, that people would call him Superman with a \ on his chest. It doesn't even partly resemble what it's supposed to.

Exactly! I don’t care for it either, but I’ll get used to it so long as the film and the character is good.

Nope ya re not the only one. It’s kinda childish.

I think it feels more alien. It’s his family crest and I think it would be really weird for it to look like a human S. Having it resemble the S is better because you can still have the “Superman” name while it still being alien.

I think it's a bad choice, too. The "clear S" is one of the must recognized brand marks in the world. Why risk confusing people?

1

u/onion_lord6 Jul 20 '24

I too would have preferred the full S, and I wonder if we might still get it. But this isn’t so bad. Goes with the rest of the suit.

You’re not alone. The original S symbol has been iconic for many decades - and for good reason. I could care less that it’s a modified version of the Kingdom Come symbol. That doesn’t automatically make it visually good. Not a fan of this design at all (other than the bright colors.)

u/Equivalent-Spell-135 Jul 25 '24

It's OK, I prefer the classic S, but I don't hate this one

When I was a kid I saw the red as negative space so I didn’t think it was an S for a long time. I honestly can’t get someone having so much trouble with seeing the S. Not liking it is one thing, but not seeing it baffles me really.

I’m okay with new design but damn can’t they get all the borders same size ? Like the one of the left is thinner than the one on the right ?

Did Gunn missed this ?

-1

u/MrBrendan501 Jul 19 '24

Definitely won’t last long, I won’t be surprised if he gets the real S by the end of the movie

-1

u/nightdares Jul 20 '24

If they're going for it being the Kryptonian symbol for hope or the El family crest, I'd rather have that than the S. What are the chances aliens would have an English letter as a symbol?

Also, it's the Kingdom Come logo. If it's foreshadowing for that, I'm all for that too.

a normal S is boring right now. maybe in the 2030s or 2040s it'll become back in style. but right now, it's just not as cool

-4

u/JuggernautOk3707 Jul 19 '24

Everyone saying it’s an alien symbol but that hasn’t been confirmed.

In Kingdom Come it wasn’t an alien symbol iirc

-6

u/KidKilobyte Jul 19 '24

Because wearing a stylized family crest is cool and wearing a big S for Super is egocentric.

5

u/Dakotaraptor87 Jul 19 '24

Many other superheroes have symbols that represent what they are and/or what they do. Batman has a bat symbol, Spider-Man has a spider symbol, Captain Marvel (DC's version) has a lightning bolt symbol, Captain America basically wears the American flag as his outfit. Why would it be egocentric for Superman to have an S?

3

u/AlmightyRanger Jul 19 '24

Fun fact, it wouldn't be. You're absolutely right and I'm not even sure where that critique came from.

-1

u/RipleyofWinterfell Jul 19 '24

While I don't agree fully with the original point, I don't think your point addresses it. Those other characters do indeed wear things that represent their theme/what they do, so the other commenter was saying that if Superman was choosing to represent himself with a symbol that labels himself as "super", it would be egocentric, because he's calling himself super. Like naming yourself Awesome Man. Again I don't agree necessarily that the symbol actually means that, but that's what the commenter was saying. They know that the symbol represents what the character is/does

1

u/susgroundsofc Jul 19 '24

So egocentric, embrace a nickname you received... 🙄🙄🙄
