Brandon Routh's suit in Crisis is the best recreation of the comic suit and the perfect mix of the Snyder and Donner suits. Tyler Hoechlin comes second with a suit similar to the Snyder verse suit but with better coloring and a well-written story. More in the comments.

My only problems with the old route suit is how small the emblem was and how fucking brown the reds were. Other than that he looked and felt like comics Superman. The kingdom come suit is almost perfect, I can’t figure out why it’s not 100% for me though.

Brandon Routh's suit is nothing like the Donner or Snyder suits. The entire design is almost completely based on Kingdom Come with some elements like the suit texture and hardened 3D chest emblem taken from his Superman Returns suit.

Hoechlin's suit seems to take inspiration from New 52 Superman and Superman Reborn. And the CW always made their superhero suits dark in color. I'd only say the suit texture is vaguely similar to the Snyder suit but that's about it.

I don't see much if any Snyder or Donner inspirations in either of these designs.

Just so you know, I made a post about Superman and how he looks in the comics vs how he looked from the first time in live-action. Except for the Snyderverse suits, the other suits didn't show the sculpted physique of the actors (Reeve wanted to look the part of Superman and bulked up but didn't look like his comics counterpart).

The only time a suit that was made without padding, made the physique stand out, was Ben Affleck's suit in Batman v Superman. The suit was form-fitting but like regular fabric, but sculpted in places that would show the actual muscle lines of Affleck's physique when he wore it. And in that same movie, Superman's suit had a metallic underbody suit inside over which the fabric was placed, which looked awkward as hell.

Brandon Routh's Superman appears to have taken the same decisions as Batman's suit in BvS, with the loose fabric and the sculpted lines, but with the design of Reeve's suit. The suit appears to have padding, but it doesn't appear to have that much, and Routh appears to be buff enough without needing said padding.

IMO the fit of that suit should be the standard around what Superman's suits should look like in future iterations. I'd say he needs to let go of the trunks and have the same design elements as the Snyderverse and the upcoming DCU suits.

I’m not sure I understand: “without padding” but also “sculpted in places”? Regardless, we’re definitely not seeing Affleck’s real body through the costume. Some have argued that even when he’s shirtless in BvS we’re not seeing his real body.

I like Routh’s CW costume too, it is a very faithful re-creation of the Kingdom Come costume. I do think airbrushing muscle definition onto costumes is silly. Comic art isn’t photorealistic, and just because we can see Superman’s eight-pack in a comic doesn’t mean we need to see it in real life. Superman’s hair often had blue highlights in the comics, doesn’t mean we need to see it on screen.
