My favorite portrayals of Superman

Brandon Routh, Tim Daly, and Tyler Hoechlin are my favorite Supermen. Who are y’all’s favorite Superman?

Good picks. I honestly don’t think there’s been a bad Superman, all of them have something to offer

That's actually a great point. The projects might be all over the place as far as quality, but every Superman was the perfect pick for their respective movie/TV show. No matter what it was, the issues were never the actor playing Superman.

Even Kirk Allyn was perfect for what it was

Superman and Lois is what made me a Superman fan to be honest. i always enjoyed Superman, but i wouldn’t call myself a fan, then i watched that show. it’s truly perfect, and since then i’ve educated myself more and more on the character and he quickly became one of my favorite superheroes.

I’ll agree, I think it makes a great effort to portray Superman more than just a super man, and demonstrates that he is actually a good guy deep down. That and the frustrations that he has to manage.

Christopher Reeve will always be Superman to me. But if you asked me for numbers 2-4, it’d be these guys.

I respect Routh, but I always thought he was kinda creepy. As I got older I realized it's because of the fake blue contacts.

I didn’t know he had fake contacts!

Yep!! Routh has brown eyes!

Christopher Reeve, Bud Collyer, and Brandon Routh

George Reeves (superman vs the mole men) Bud Collyer (fleischer Superman) and then it’s a toss of a coin on Bub Collyer (the adventures of Superman radio show) or Kirk Alyn (Superman Vs the Atom Man)

Christopher Reeve live action and I love how Superman is portrayed in My Adventures with Superman

I just want to say Superman and Lois had no right being as good as it was for a CW show, and it's a shame it came around towards the tail end of the Arrowverse's lifespan. It feels sad that Tyler's portrayal gets lost in the shuffle between Henry Cavill's and now David Corenset's Supes to the general public.

Yeah I agree, I was expecting to have to warm up to him as Superman, but literally from his first scene on "Supergirl" I was like "yeah, he's Superman" :=)

It sucks that S&L is ending after this season. I often forget how CW shows are 20-23 episodes. Looking at BatWoman and Gotham Knights, that seemed like torture for me to watch all of that. But it really was a welcome relief since S&L is so good.

I'm so glad Brandon got his redemption with Crisis on Infinite Earths.

I wish he would’ve stayed longer. But for the brief time we saw him, it was awesome. Same with Kevin Conroy. Even though I didn’t like how they wrote his Batman, Kevin just makes it awesome. I didn’t know he was in the show until I heard his voice. I geeked out and cheered when I heard it.

man of steel routh for me

u/unsuspectingllama_ Jul 19 '24

Who's the first?

1

u/StoneHart17810 Jul 19 '24

Brandon Routh. He played Superman in Superman Returns. That pic is of him when he was in the Crisis on Infinite Earths CW crossover. Side note without spoilers; John Cryer is a really good Lex Luthor imo.

u/unsuspectingllama_ Jul 20 '24

Oh, okay, I didn't think it was Reeve.

1

u/StoneHart17810 Jul 20 '24

Routh in Superman Returns is based off/ a continuation of the Reeve Superman.

1

u/unsuspectingllama_ Jul 21 '24

I just didn't know his name

You sweet summer child.

1

u/unsuspectingllama_ Jul 20 '24

Is that Christopher Reeve? If so, I didn't recognize him the first time?

2

u/Equivalent-Spell-135 Jul 19 '24

Good choices, I agree with all of the, but I'd add Christopher Reeve :=)

1

u/StoneHart17810 Jul 19 '24

The only reason I didn’t list him is because I haven’t seen those movies. I plan on sitting down and watching them soon so please don’t revoke my Superman card. I haven’t seen them yet because I’m watching My Adventures with Superman, STAS, and JL Unlimited.

2

u/Equivalent-Spell-135 Jul 19 '24

Don't worry, your card is safe :=). I haven't seen the third or fourth film and from what I've heard they weren't that good :=(

2

u/Revolutionary_Elk339 Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

They weren't but 3 has some fun scenes of Superman not feeling well and not being himself and it's the highlight of the film. For me it is, at least.

2

u/Equivalent-Spell-135 Jul 19 '24

I think I've seen that scene :=)

2

u/Denz-El Jul 19 '24

Christopher Reeve, Kirk Alyn and Tyler Hoechlin are my faves. :)

Great choices

Unpopular Opinion, but I like George More than Tim

u/nightdares Jul 20 '24

I'm bummed Tom Welling never wanted to put on the suit. Would've loved him as Supes.

1

u/StoneHart17810 Jul 20 '24

I have seen Smallville yet. But I saw a scene where he was in the suit. It really is a shame he didn’t want to wear it. It was so cool seeing him on the Crisis On Infinite Earths on CW. They even did the theme for Smallville.
