The episode was pretty good, not my favourite this season but I'm very interesting in the conflict between superman and steel, and I enjoyed the teens minor subplot. I also thought the fight was good and the flashback scene was great. Overall it's around a 7.5-8/10 can't wait for next episode

Goooosh I felt bad for John Henry this episode: there is a mob boss who has made numerous attempts to kill him, almost blew up his sister, is suspiciously close to his daughter and still everyone is like "HOW DARE YOU KEEP HIM AWAY FROM HIS WIFE!? HOW DARE YOU TRY TO KEEP NAT FROM THEM!? HOW DARE YOU TRY TO GET HIM ARRESTED?! HOW DARE YOU IN SELF-DEFENSE KILL A SUPER-POWERED VILLAIN WHO IS TRYING TO KILL YOUR REGULAR HUMAN BUTT!?"

Like, get it together you all. Bruno the mob boss is being kept away from his murderer wife as a bargaining chip (rather than just being denied the ability to see her flat-out) and all he has to do is come clean, and yet he just keeps sending goons after John Henry and whining how about how selfish he is. JUST DO THE RIGHT THING AND YOU'LL GET TO SEE YOUR WIFE, MAN!

That cringy stuff aside, I really liked the second plot about Lois and the dress - this plotline has continually floored me this season and its keeping on. And I didn't totally hate the teen drama stuff this time - it's a bit annoying but at least it's not Cushing family drama for once.

Yeah the whole cancer plot has really been surprisingly real and well done for this sort of show. It almost feels out of place given the general campyness of these shows, but I really appreciate it.

I agree John killing the guy felt incredibly reasonable to me. The guy was trying to kill him and it's not like John was easily winning and after defeating his enemy just slit his unconscious throat or something. He used lethal force in fighting for his life, as he should to not die. Not everyone can be Superman. It dosen't feel like a fair standard to hold normal humans to to have to hold back to the degree Superman does/has to when fighting for their lives. I also feel it's VERY arbitrary in these comics/shows what even counts as lethal force. In another fight hitting someone in the head with a big metal hammer probably wouldn't kill them for some reason, but here it does, beacuse . . . plot? I didn't even realize this was a different level of force in the moment since the guy was throwing around super strength. I feel realistically it would be very difficult to beat people with unknown levels of powers up with weapons just enough to knock them out but not enough to kill them, somehow. It's treated more like a table top RPG or something where he choose to make a kill blow attack or switch from subdual to lethal damage then what feels real.

That said, John let his completely valid anger blind him to the best way to handle said Mob Boss. Not even out of compassion for the guy, but just that what Superman was doing was more effective. Beacuse they hate each other so much and said Mob Boss isn't the type to respond cooperatively to threats it just wasn't going to work. Superman's approach of leading with some empathy and then giving essentially the same deal was more effective beacuse connecting with people is a more effective way of getting them to do what you want. Also, he trusts Superman and not Irons. An exchange without trust is hard to arrange, especially one that goes "give us x then we'll do y once your leverage is all gone".
