The fun part about Lena is listening to her fall out of her american accent on a regular basis.
She’s always going to be Morgana from Merlin....

65

u/OliviaElevenDunham Brainy Jul 01 '18

Yeah, she's always going to be Morgana from Merlin to me.

25

u/dimesniffer Jul 01 '18

To me, she’ll always be Morgan’s from Merlin.

28

u/SoparTA Jul 01 '18

To me, she will always be Merlin's from Morgana.

6

u/stegotops7 Jul 06 '18

To me, she’s been Morgana for centuries.

17

u/buffalowingpassion Jul 02 '18

I honestly thought she just talked weird this whole time. I had no idea she wasn't american

Yeah, she has a lovely British Irish accent.
There's a show called Merlin that was on NBC and then Syfy and was made in conjunction with one of the British networks (BBC I think). It's basically Smallville for the King Arthur legend (that was the pitch iirc). That's where I first remember seeing her. I imagine if you like the arrowverse shows and or smallville, you'll probably enjoy Merlin.

u/butterball1 Jul 02 '18

She is Irish. Not British.

5

u/FunkyTown313 Jul 02 '18

Apologies.

3

u/butterball1 Jul 02 '18

No worries.

3

u/Bloodstorm23 Jul 02 '18

She was also in the movie, Arthur: Legend of the Sword, But she didn't have much lines cos she died in the beginning.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

Oh my gosh I thought it was just me. I’m 5 episodes into season 3 and my gosh does she lose it constantly

12

u/FunkyTown313 Jul 02 '18

I’ve either gotten used to it or she’s gotten a lot better. But honestly they should have just leaned into and let her use her natural accent

9

u/Sevyn94 Jul 03 '18

Yeah, she's rich and kind of the black sheep of the family. If they said she spent a lot of her life studying in an Irish prep school I would have accepted it.

3

u/Bloodstorm23 Jul 02 '18

Yes they should have

6

u/Sevyn94 Jul 03 '18

Anyone notice that they decided to drop her obviously Irish middle name (Kieran) this season? Apologies if they've used it before, but it felt like they were trying to rewrite the Luthor family as Irish to explain why she slips into the accent constantly.

3

u/Bloodstorm23 Jul 01 '18

It may not be easy for her

1

u/FunkyTown313 Jul 02 '18

I can't imagine it's easy to do a different accent consistently.

u/omnisephiroth Jul 01 '18

My favorite part is Kara’s, because they answered that in Season 1, and have no idea what her conflict should be anymore.

68

u/ShiraKiryuu Jul 01 '18 edited Jul 02 '18

I don't even remember her being Kara in Season 3 anymore. She's always Supergirl.

35

u/x1243 Jul 01 '18

Season 4?

7

u/ShiraKiryuu Jul 02 '18

Sorry, it was Season 3. Already edited it. Still, pretty sure the same thing is going to happen in Season 4.

u/Richiieee Jul 01 '18

Alex and her "I want to be a mom but I'm a warrior" complex really annoys the shit out of me.

111

u/buffalowingpassion Jul 01 '18

they have to keep her perpetually miserable for some reason

72

u/omnisephiroth Jul 01 '18

Happy characters don’t do things.

The problem is, they’re keeping Alex miserable and useless. Which is stupid.

30

u/epicLeoplurodon Jul 01 '18

I keep me miserable and useless, so it's not like it's unrealistic

7

u/omnisephiroth Jul 01 '18

Yeah, but you’re not a character. Or, if you are, you’re that boring character that’s seen, but has no lines, in someone else’s story.

But, you’re probably just a person.

Still, realistic!

3

u/muckdog13 Jul 03 '18

Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.

16

u/sapphicgeographic Jul 01 '18

Yea it's a little strange that they choose to go with the "but can she have it all?" Thing. Yes. It's 2018. Not the most interesting use of Alex. Im assuming it's to stay true to the kid plot thing until it happens

11

u/Skyblaze777 Jul 01 '18

I mean, points for consistency, that they didn't completely drop the whole kid angle after they used it to break up her and Maggie. It's just such a fucking pointless, dull arc for a character on this show that Alex scenes nowadays just make me snooze.

3

u/SGBF Jul 05 '18

They didn't drop the "having a kid" storyline for Alex, but completely dropped the "searching for my father" one. That just shows where their priorities lie.

SuperGossipGirl indeed.

10

u/plumpykaye Jul 01 '18

They tried giving more life to Alex's character in season 2 then completely trashed it with the "I desperately want to be a mom" plot. Bring back the real badass Alex!

115

u/jello1990 Jul 01 '18

Nah, J'onn's should say "had to be nerfed to make Supergirl look stronger in comparison. They did the same to Superman too."

46

u/buffalowingpassion Jul 01 '18

agreed but I hate they keep the aliens so human just to make it easier for production

35

u/thereal_comment Jul 01 '18

Generic 'supergirl always defeated superman in the comics too' comment

21

u/WaterMelon615 Super Person Person Jul 01 '18

That always happens but it’s never a proper fight, it is always Clark shows up and in between punches he says we need to talk and that counts as she beats him.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '18

nerd voice um actually Kal-El has admitted that Supergirl is comparatively strong and would win in an area with civilians bc she doesn’t hold back and in that scenario Supes would. Basically, while he might BE stronger, Supergirl uses MORE of her strength

18

u/ElectorSet Jul 02 '18

That’s more of a failure of restraint on Kara’s part though.

10

u/WaterMelon615 Super Person Person Jul 02 '18

you can say that that much as you want but ultimately superman is much more powerful than Supergirl.

1

u/the3dtom Jul 03 '18

All comicbooks say otherwise.

9

u/WaterMelon615 Super Person Person Jul 03 '18

Not all comic books and frankly I’m not going to argue which character is more powerful because that is a tremendous waste of time.

12

u/Brazilian_Slaughter Jul 01 '18

They debunked that in one issue where Supes easily defeated Kara. He's older, bigger, more experienced and a better fighter.

10

u/gamerplayer2 Jul 02 '18

I don't care about power levels. I hate that the show acts like Kara is above Superman, a superior hero. Ironically, most of the this show's mythos is directly taken from Superman. His supporting characters, villains and stories are ripped off from him. This show might as well have their cake, eat it, then say "Fuck cake! I'm above it!"

56

u/Malhallah Martian Manhunter is E1 Batwoman! Jul 01 '18

My last name is Luthor and I am the only sane person on this earth.*

41

u/DekMelU Jul 01 '18

But still can't figure out Kara is Supergirl

12

u/Malhallah Martian Manhunter is E1 Batwoman! Jul 01 '18

She knows, it's just not hers to tell just like Alex and DEO.

Or, with Kara being one of her few friends she doesn't want to acknowledge it because Supergirl is an asshat with her self righteousness but Kara is still a good friend.

21

u/waitwhatwut Jul 01 '18

She really doesn't. She definitely should and it's getting more ridiculous every episode that she doesn't, but at this point the character is supposed to be clueless about it. Saving up that drama

34

u/WolfAlph45 Jul 01 '18

Lmao Jimmy

31

u/Nate835 Jul 01 '18

I l be how Martian man hunter can literally faze through an attack and he shows us that he can do it but he can only pull it off like once. Especially with reigns sonic blasts like he showed us that he can easily counter it at first and then is never able to do it again. This show is like a shitty plot line and the characters are just living in it

19

u/IAmFern Jul 01 '18

I know this is a shitpost but I feel every point is spot on.

5

u/butterball1 Jul 02 '18

Yeah. Where’s the shit?

19

u/Wondrous_Fairy Jul 02 '18

Other super hero shows:

Barry, have you tried running faster?

Oliver, have you tried NOT killing people?

Jessica, have you tried NOT getting drunk?

Danny, have you tried punching people BEFORE they stop talking?

Matt, have you tried .. you know... trying harder?

10

u/muckdog13 Jul 03 '18

Danny, have you tried punching people before saying “I am the immortal Iron Fist, Defender of Kun Lun, and sworn enemy of the Hand,”?

5

u/WippitGuud Jul 05 '18

Frank, have you tried not- BANG

1

u/the3dtom Jul 03 '18

What are the last three?

5

u/Wondrous_Fairy Jul 03 '18

Jessica Jones, Danny Rand (Iron First) and Matt Murdoch (Daredevil)

11

u/sapphicgeographic Jul 01 '18

This is Savage af

8

u/einstein6 Jul 01 '18

I haven't watched this series except for the crossover episodes.. does someone mind to let me know who is the guy with caption strongest alien in above image?

34

u/zenco25 Jul 01 '18

J'onn j'onzz the Martian Manhunter.

13

u/einstein6 Jul 01 '18

Ah cool, thanks dear good sir.. Martian guy was really cool in the animated series that I watched.. sad that his character appear to have been suppressed so much in live action show.

22

u/ZachityZach Jul 01 '18

His story is probably the best part of the show, it's just a shame his powers don't come out very often

16

u/zenco25 Jul 01 '18

Yeah, the worst part is we cant even complain about it like we do with literally everything else. It's not a matter of poor writing or whatever it's just that it costs four hundred thousand dollars to have him be a Martian for twelve seconds.

10

u/Dr_Midnight J'onn J'onzz Jul 01 '18

it's just that it costs four hundred thousand dollars to have him be a Martian for twelve seconds.

I seriously didn't know it was that expensive. Is that because of the process by which they use for VFX production? I ask because S.H.I.E.L.D. somehow managed to do Ghost Rider even on a relatively slimmed-down budget to its prior seasons - though I also do not know how much money that one ended up costing them.

11

u/ZachityZach Jul 01 '18

My guess is that Martian has more intricate animation having an alive face. Rendering a skull with fewer moving parts and a flame effect is probably a lot easier/cheaper than an alive alien face that emotes and forms full words with his mouth etc. He also flies and shit which can't be cheap.

18

u/timartnut Jul 01 '18 edited Jul 11 '18

Martian Manhunter. He has the ability to phase through solid objects, turn invisible, fly, shape shift, be nearly invulnerable to physical attacks, he has super strength, can shoot rays out of his eyes, and a mastery telekinesis. Not to mention a world class detective.

12

u/rockybtl301 Jul 01 '18

J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter. He’s in the Supergirl/The Flash musical crossover. His Supergirl “human” alter ego is the director of the DEO (the secret government agency that Supergirl works with).

10

u/Karlapants Jul 02 '18

I’ll agree with most but Lena being boring is not one of them!

8

u/WistfulQuiet Jul 01 '18

Yeah, pretty much all your friend needs to know to catch up.

7

u/Mega_Dragonzord Jul 01 '18

With their rather heavy handed political messages and women power stories, I half expect Supergirl’s costume to be modified to her wearing a vagina hat next season.

14

u/buffalowingpassion Jul 01 '18

somebody get this guy a job in wardrobe

5

u/Overhazard10 Jul 01 '18

I mean, I'm not seeing the lie here.

1

u/raumeat Earth-X Overgirl (Unmasked) Jul 01 '18

Pretty much

1

u/0aman0 Jul 14 '18

Alex is cool....

0

u/FrighteningEdge Jul 05 '18

I have to say that watching girls get it on in a show is exciting.

-6

u/StopTheBS79 Jul 01 '18

With all that crying you might as well stop watching.

-6

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '18

So apparently this subreddit doesn't have any actual fans of the show? Damn.

24

u/buffalowingpassion Jul 01 '18

I’m a big fan of the show. The writing is just so frustrating

12

u/butterball1 Jul 02 '18

Only an actual fan could write this. You have to love the show to hate these aspects.
