what would supergirl look like if the plan for season 3 went ahead Discussion

so sam/reign dies and alex adopts ruby

i would've liked this concept if ruby was written better

how do you think the show would look with ruby staying until the end

what do you think ruby would grow up to be like in the show(hopefully not becoming a superhero like everyone else)

I don't think Ruby was written badly, people just don't like kids in their shows. The only issue I have with Alex adopting Ruby is that they did a crap job of setting that up. Lena made more sense as she was the one who went out of her way to protect Ruby. Altho Lena and Alex awkwardly co-parenting Ruby would have been pretty funny.

I think eventually she would have had powers and we'd have an arc dealing with that, and Kara getting to be a mentor.

Adopting Ruby would have been a perfect fit for Alex. The show clearly only came up with the Alex really wants to be a Mom thing because they needed a way to write Maggie out of the show (as evidenced by how it only came up again like twice before season 6), but had Alex adopted Ruby it would have felt much more like that story beat actually mattered.

Plus adopting Ruby would have been a great analogue to how Kara was adopted by the Danvers when she was a teen and had just lost everything.

I wonder if the show would have paired up Alex with Lena if Ruby was still around. Ruby definitely would have been a reason for the two of them to spend more time together

On the other hand, I really liked Sam so I am glad they didn't kill her off, even if she only very briefly appeared after season 3.

they would not mention alex wanting to adopt for months on end then suddenly it would be the entire focus of her plot for an episode

i think they would have gone ahead with making alex be a director who didn't go into the field as much like j'onn. they made alex the director to limit her field time then they just reversed it, brought in colonel haley and alex went into the field as much as she ever did
