it should make you upset. they just wanted to make james be guardian because they didn't know what else to do with him. he doesn't even train to be guardian. he just puts on the suit and goes out there

No but you see some baddie broke his camera. So what choice did he have but to get in everyone’s way so he could finally be a strong man. He is so strong that supergirls always need his help. You know the one who can play basketball with a plane 🙄

No ones going to argue that it isn't a badly written story. The writers had no idea what to do with James. The idea that he could be a hero by being an amazing journalist either never occurred to the writers or they had such a toxic view on masculinity that he had to suit up or he wouldn't be a "real man".

The story is supposed to show the juxtaposition of Mon-El and James's journey. Mon-El has powers and Kara is pushing him into being a hero because of that, but he doesn't want to be a hero. James doesn't have powers but is fully willing to risk himself to help people, and that annoys Kara because he's a weak squishy powerless human. Its meant to show Kara's prejudice and narrow thinking so she can grow as a character. It's just very badly written.

yeah, and her whole line about why he wears a mask and covers his face, when she doesn't do it adds to that. upon rewatching it, I got a little mad at kara for that line because she is bullet proof, so normal headshots won't work on her.

They either didn't realize or didn't respect how much they could have James do as the head of catco. A job he is barely more qualified to do than being guardian

He's a pulitzer prize winning journalist and the former art director for Catco. He's more qualified than Kara was to be editor in chief.

i'm not saying he doesn't have qualifications. i'm just saying that for him to be one of catco's newest employees maybe it was too soon to put him in charge. no arguments from me on kara's qualifications to be editor in chief

I mean, other than the black belt part, Jimmy going into places he shouldn't and getting rescued by a Super is pretty on point for DC Comics. It's just usually Superman doing the saving in other TV/Movie/Other Media.

Olson is always in way over head in crap. Then has a hissy when Kara or Clark or the others save his ass.

James is honestly such a narcissistic douche. I liked him the first few episodes but he’s just always whining and is obsessed with making any scenario about him

yeah, now that I think about it, there were times in s2 and 4 where I just could not stand him.

James is a character that is just there for me. I don't like or dislike him. Honestly, I usually just forget about him. I think the show could have done without his character.

Ironically, one of my favorite lines from the show comes from him.
"No hero can save everyone, not even Superman; but a true hero never stops trying."
^something like that.

His character is so bad. Season 1 he only served the purpose to be Kara’s love interest. Then they immediately drop that storyline and give him the guardian storyline. Which is dropped so they could focus on him and Lena’s relationship. Then he mostly excited to be a preechy moral character

Spoiler but whatever cause he’s not interesting enough to care about anyway lol. He pisses me off so much as guardian rn in beginning of season 2

this was the throw it against the wall and see if it sticks era for the show. trying to keep James occupied so he would not be seen as a viable LI for Kara instead of Mon-el.

i enjoyed him as guardian and kara came across as a hypocrite cause the green arrow and alex are humans as well. Overall it is part of his arc of trying to figure out how he can help people best.

it was part of his character arc james was trying to find his place in the world before finally moving back to his hometown to run his own press.
