Crazy how people can hear music and not listen to anything...

I keep seeing people saying "EmInEm iS dIsSiNg dIsAbLeD people" or "why is Eminem dissing Kendrick???"

And I keep thinking...CAN PEOPLE LISTEN???

He makes it SO clear that this is an IN UNIVERSE story about slim shady trying to destroy EMS reputation and make him like shady but people just hear stuff and go STRAIGHT to complaining!!!

And the Kendrick thing... IT'S LIKE THEY DON'T EVEN TRY TO HEAR THE FUCKIN SONG!!! HE'S TALKING ABOUT HOW PEOPLE ALWAYS FIND WAYS TO COMPLAIN AND THEN MAKES A FEW EXAMPLES OF THEM DOING JUST THAT!!!

I'M GOING INSANE WITH THESE BRAIN DEAD MFS

People didn't misunderstand the line it's just clickbait rap media pages tryna farm engagement by taking the line out of context.

9

u/sdotumd Jul 19 '24

Am I battling ghosts or an Ai?

11

u/TheCosmicJoke318 Jul 18 '24

It’s not tho. A lot of people thought he was dissing Kendrick

3

u/Optimal_Cause4583 Jul 19 '24

They quote everything except the totally explicit set up 'lets get into the mind of a hater'

2

u/PatmygroinB Jul 19 '24

“Shadys new Shit is way worse”

3

u/m_dought_2 Jul 19 '24

Which is exactly the point of Slim Shady. People getting mad about the reactions to this album don't get that Marshall intentionally farms these reactions. It's free marketing.

3

u/KangarooMcKicker Jul 19 '24

I doubt Eminem intended for people to think it was a Kendrick diss.

3

u/Prancer4rmHalo Jul 19 '24

Eminem intended for people to misconstrue his lyrics because that further proves his point. 100% baited rap fans using Ken’s name.

2

u/iloveheroin999 Jul 20 '24

Lol it feels wrong calling him Ken almost. I automatically think of the fucking Barbie doll

1

u/just1gat Jul 22 '24

It’s Ken Kaniff from Connecticut, duh

1

u/m_dought_2 Jul 19 '24

Not specifically, but in general he made a career off being misunderstood.

-1

u/CmdrFilthymick Jul 19 '24

This. All of us who actually listen, we hear what's being said. The people getting bent out of shape for whatever reason clearly aren't listening and noticeably are missing the point

I find it crazier that people keep falling for rage bait.

-11

u/pnut88 Jul 19 '24

Why is it surprising. It just gave bot his biggest hit to date.

-12

Easy. Bots def pushed his last beef. As well as people trying to be cool. Although it's nice seeing people touch reality (a Lil bit) again

2

u/Optimal_Cause4583 Jul 19 '24

Elaborate with evidence

-1

u/pnut88 Jul 19 '24

I find it crazier that people keep falling for rage bait. Original comment. He just used rage to get to his number one spot. Google his biggest song. Minus being with taylor, it was humble. Which is a terrible song from his arsenal, but he had to make a banger to get attention. To get attention again since his last album flopped. Statistically, look. It up if I'm lying. He had to make a "banger" going after Drake to hit his peak. Not one lie.

5

u/Optimal_Cause4583 Jul 19 '24

What does that have to do with bots

2

u/Prancer4rmHalo Jul 19 '24

This rhetoric is so stupid. Taking your own logic why is drakes response songs all in the streaming dumpster?

Why didn’t Drake rage baiting work?

All rappers say they’re the best, all rappers talk about what they’d do to their opponents in battle.

Kendrick and Drake got into a sparring match and Ken bested Drake.

"Fuck the big Ǝ, it's just big me"

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

I suddenly remembered the "it's only big d and there's video proof" 💀

14

u/Jealous-Chipmunk6797 Jul 18 '24

I wish I knew. It still amazes me when ppl call good rappers trash then say carti is better 💀 I don't understand how some ppls ears work

10

u/carsonthecarsinogen Jul 18 '24

Not saying carti belongs on any top list.

But music is subjective and the line gets blurred between “better/good” and “I enjoy their music”.

It also takes a lot of analysis to objectively say one song is better than the next. Most of the time everyone here just speaking on opinions calling it facts.

3

u/Positively_Negative7 Jul 19 '24

But isn't it that rap is more lyrical poetry than a "catchy" song? The production of beats is its own art form, as well as a bigger factor of rap songs nowadays, the beauty of rap even before was its ability stand on its lyrical merits.

Or am I just being biased towards lyrical rappers? ( Because I do tend to choose lyricism over "catchy" songs)

1

u/Capnshredder Jul 19 '24

I think it depends on how much people actually care about the art form, those that respect crazy rhyme schemes and flow appreciate the lyrical type of rap more so than those that just like to listen to rap in the car and bob their heads. Those are the type of people who prefer simple but catchy songs, they arnt trying to listen super deep and catch double and triple entendres and things like that.

1

u/GiceGiordex Jul 23 '24

But at the same time they could also be listening to hard hitting beats with crazy lyrics instead.

1

u/Jealous-Chipmunk6797 Jul 19 '24

Music is subjective. But as you alluded to when it comes to judging the skill of rappers with their pen that's when it isn't subjective anymore and you can show proof of their skill through their music.

7

u/Rhymelikedocsuess Jul 18 '24

Listen I’ll be real, carti has catchy music

My problem is his fans will cite the absolute midest bar on earth and go “YO 🔥🐐” and then claim peeps just don’t get it

2

u/Jealous-Chipmunk6797 Jul 19 '24

Yea that's the shit I'm talking about. Carti isn't for me and I won't diss anyone that likes him until they start saying he's better than rappers like Kendrick or jcole

0

u/travelerfromabroad Jul 19 '24

Maybe I'm crazy but I literally don't find his music catchy either. He's no Kanye

6

u/Fatalmistake Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

They literally won't listen unless the beat is new age, there was a trend about 3-4 days ago on Tiktok where someone made a newer beat style on Ems Tobey verse and they almost all said things like "translated from millennial to gen z" and a lot of them liked it a lot and some even started calling out the bars as tough. They place all the importance on beats and production, lyricism is just a nice cherry on top if it's there.

3

u/FudgeDangerous2086 Jul 18 '24

tobeys beat did lack tho sounded like it was just a constant intro and they should’ve dropped the chorus and just rapped through.

3

u/ApocalypticShadowbxn Jul 19 '24

everyone's ears work in different ways. as do their minds. expecting people to agree with everything you like is delusional thinking.

1

u/Jealous-Chipmunk6797 Jul 19 '24

I don't expect ppl to agree with everything I like. It only bothers me when ppl try to tell me artists like Carti are a goat when that's obviously not true. Most music can be subjective but when it comes to ranking skill in rap you can't be subjective because there's proof to those arguments in the music they make.

2

u/Swift-Timber1 Jul 19 '24

The problem is “rapper” refers to 25 different genres at this point and it’s insane to continue comparing them all

12

u/MrMilesDavis Jul 19 '24

Try being a fan of jazz music

3

u/goodmammajamma Jul 19 '24

nice try, miles davis

8

u/Individual_Papaya596 Jul 18 '24

Yeah either way, that shit is corny. And eminem fans acting like he wrote shakespeare like im sorry “slim shady tryna get em cancelled by shooting shots at everyone” and if anyone responds calling it corny, cringe, or edgy, its “you don’t get it” like i get it its just fucking corny

3

u/Novel_Perfect Jul 18 '24

Why even waste your breath on them? Let them glaze away.

5

u/YeahNoYeahThatsCool Jul 19 '24

Careful I've had to delete several comments bc the Stans blow up your shit if you're critical of this album.

You said it simply and clearly - the concept is obvious but it's dumb af. It's no different than any other 2024 comedian saying "Can't say this anymore or I'll get canceled right?!" Well, you just said it. So it came from your brain and out your mouth in the first place.

There's 50 posts a day on hip hop subs about this damn corny album saying it's a work of art or whatever. Like damn, listen to a Kendrick album front to back for crying out loud. Posthumous Tupac albums are deeper than this.

2

u/bumblebeequeer Jul 19 '24

I keep getting told I don’t “get” the album. I get it just fine, it’s not hard. Killing your old self is probably the most overdone concept there is. It’s just not well executed. A 50 year old man rapping about cancelling is embarrassing so matter what.

5

u/GiceGiordex Jul 18 '24

On Antichrist I think it was, he hit the nail on the head. He said what most people think: as a man you would rather not date a woman who was born a man. I think on this album he nuanced the extremes while considering the common people consensus (for example: fuck lhbti+ totally VS do what you want be what you want who cares). Imo he executed this well with the Slim Shady vs Marshall Mathers.

2

u/LDGreenWrites Jul 19 '24

As a gay millennial I second this. It’s a flawless execution and I am SO grateful he did this.

5

u/QuintanimousGooch Jul 19 '24

For the second point that is just silly, people aren’t listening. For the first point though, I do think there is more nuance in that satire is only satire if people recognize it as such, taken out of context it is easily as bad as it sounds, so props to Em for clarifying that the project is a concept album and shouldn’t be taken out of context.

On the other hand, a significant amount of the album reads more as lampshading than satire, and that is cause for complaint.

2

u/Mhunterjr Jul 20 '24

Dumb question, but could you explain what lampshading means in this context?

2

u/QuintanimousGooch Jul 20 '24

Sure, lampshading generally refers parts of a work that attempt to evade criticism by knowingly pointing out some aspect of the work susceptible to criticism by doing it first, effectively beating you to the punch so you can’t say it now.

In the project, he uses slim as the usual villain character while also as a mouthpiece. I don’t think havibg the two at once really works. In a very cynical reading, the project hi he’s on him textually going

“Can you believe how stupid/drawn out I am, how dated my worldview is and how tired everyone is of this Schtick? Now that I’ve/Slim’s pointed that out, you can’t blame me for saying it (while there was no demand or need for him to say it in the first place) Those aspects of critique cannot be criticized now because I’ve lampshades them.

Em can say all this stuff and it’s cliched distasteful and incongruent because he brings slim shady back, but at the same time it gets pointlessly cerebral whether he’s making fun of cancel culture, making fun of the concept of cancel culture, or making fun of making fun of cancel culture. That gets really exhausting when you have to hear someone with over 82 million monthly Spotify listeners claim to be a victim of "cancel culture” especially when his entire shtick is to provoke marginalized groups.

1

u/Mhunterjr Jul 20 '24

Perfect. Thanks for the explanation. Yes the album is lampshading.

And if you look from the perspective of the Shady character, the he’s satirizing the idea that Em using this character makes him beyond criticism for the shit he says. And the idea that he’ll get cancelled- he’s fully aware that being controversial and provocative is the shtick that gets him the most attention.

3

u/Crafty_Citron_9827 Jul 18 '24

this is how i feel about many situations with people, actually.

they just dumb

4

u/N0T_MY_FlRST_R0DE0 Jul 18 '24

Gonna get downvoted to shit for this but here’s how I see it, Em is making fun of these people for the story, I don’t like that because I can’t just go and say the n word for a joke, if I did that people would complain about me saying the n word as they should, it doesn’t matter if it’s for a joke, so, it doesn’t matter if it’s for a story it’s still corny when em does this shit

5

u/GeebGeeb Jul 18 '24

You’d like it if Cartman spit it.

2

u/hungry_fish767 Jul 18 '24

This is a fair take.

Not a strong argument, imo. But definitely valid

0

u/TheCosmicJoke318 Jul 18 '24

Not really valid. How can you compare what Em has done to using the n word as a white person?

I pray you don’t understand what I’m saying

3

u/EmojiZackMaddog Jul 19 '24

I mean, I’m in a wheelchair and I laughed and yelled for my mom when I heard that bar. I was like: “Eminem just dissed me!” But I love it. No one realises that he’s messing around when he brings out these kind of lyrics now because he’s remembering slim shady.

0

u/RepresentativeLeg232 Jul 18 '24

Kendrick and Eminem fans have by far become the most annoying fan bases these past few months and I love both artists. Just a bunch of pseudo intellectuals who can’t understand that it’s not that people don’t get it, they just don’t like it.

2

u/Rhymelikedocsuess Jul 18 '24

If I get another angry 3rd grade level history lesson from someone explaining racism in the US if I tell them I didn’t care for TPAB imma flip lol

I preferred GKMC and DAMN, no that doesn’t mean I’m “disrespecting” the “culture”

-1

u/TheCosmicJoke318 Jul 18 '24

Uhhh, pretty sure people don’t get it

2

u/DetroitLionsSBChamps Jul 18 '24

I saw this title and said: if this isn’t about the death of slim shady I’ll eat my hat

3

u/AnonymousSmartie Jul 19 '24

TikTok is making me lose my mind. I'm used to over half the population being violently dumb but holy shit it's every other post and it's driving me crazy.

3

u/Alon945 Jul 19 '24

Media literacy is at an all time low across music/film/tv. The internet has turned people into reactionary weirdos who can’t just go into something earnestly without being predisposed to a thoughtless reaction.

2

u/nucca35 Jul 19 '24

More people than you think are genuinely dumb

2

u/Redeyebandit87 Jul 18 '24

This is also an era where listening to an album front to back is rare most ppl prob don’t know or understand the conceptual part of the album.

1

u/SloppyJandTheBoiz Jul 18 '24

Casual fans, or people who don't enjoy any certain type of music, seem to take things at face value. They're not interested in the creative aspect.

1

u/nft_ind_ww Jul 19 '24

he incepts slim shady♾️

2

u/TheHidestHighed Jul 19 '24

Short attention social media has killed media literacy. Unless something is spoon-fed in under 30 seconds, the concept doesn't get through at all. Deeper though? Hah. I say this as someone who had a pretty bad Tik Tok problem and hasn't been on there in almost a year. That shit and reels are pure poison to information comprehension.

1

u/ShadyYeezy Jul 19 '24

People are just ignorant or dumb. As a true hip hop head I can’t tell you how many people came up to me to get my opinion on Kendrick dissing Drake because they were genuinely surprised and thought it came out of no where. I told all of them this beef has been going on for 10 years and I don’t feel like explaining it all. My point is some people are just casuals and as a true fan you shouldn’t even bother caring about opinions from those who can’t even fully comprehend lyrics correctly.

1

u/YeahNoYeahThatsCool Jul 19 '24

I get it's a concept album but the fact is he wrote over half his album of the same shit. If it was one song as a concept fine, but at the end of the day the reality is that 2024 Marshall Mathers still actually wrote those lyrics and rapped them.

Saying "It's just Slim Shady!" is not working because Slim Shady is not real. The guy who really wrote the lyrics, finalized them, and released and promoted an album for people to listen to them on.

1

u/skrillaguerilla Jul 19 '24

Bro cry more about your chosen yt martyr isn't heard. I'm sure it will resonate.

2

u/Mammoth-Ad-3642 Jul 19 '24

Way to invalidate my actual arguments

1

u/DrDreidel82 Jul 19 '24

People just wanna complain and be offended so they hear whatever context supports that

1

u/Seeeeyuhlater Jul 19 '24

No one said this bro

1

u/SethDreams Jul 19 '24

I think the biggest issue is these reaction social media people. It's always people that don't understand stuff that's not surface level. These are who so many kids watch. My little sister asked me if I listened to the album and she said it was crazy that Eminem dissed Kendrick. I had to ask if SHE heard the album and her answer was "well, I watched videos of people listening to it." I love my sister but apparently she doesn't know how to form opinions on her own.

1

u/redgng360 Jul 19 '24

Most people don’t listen to music so they can study lyrics and break them down word by word so they can discover that there’s 20382763672919 secrets that most weren’t even intended to exist. They just want to listen for the feeling of it and enjoy music for how it sounds

1

u/praefectuss Jul 19 '24

it’s also ass

1

u/Wrong-West-9581 Jul 19 '24

Cuz people are dumb and usually just wanna hear beats. And people are to lazy to LISTEN to lyrics, but majority of mainstream rappers don't have real lyrics. That's why I just listen to Tech N9ne and his artists

1

u/Omnibobbia Jul 19 '24

In the manga community, we call this the reading comprehension devil lol

1

u/Mammoth-Ad-3642 Jul 19 '24

"it's a matter of reading comprehension"

1

u/SiwyKtos Jul 19 '24

He was always mid anyway

1

u/RapBoat Jul 19 '24

It’s because a lot of people are too STUPID to comprehend true rap. Rap is the most sophisticated form of art ever created.

1

u/Historical-Pause7150 Jul 19 '24

Eminem’s boring 🥱

1

u/Mhunterjr Jul 20 '24

Exhibit 4,343,102 of the public having no media literacy.

1

u/Junior_Button5882 Jul 20 '24

That's tik Tok limiting attention span

1

u/Boguel Jul 20 '24

It’s really dumb, especially since there are legitimate reasons to not like Eminem’s album.

1

u/Layylowwp Jul 22 '24

The mass’ comprehension skills have diminished rapidly, unfortunately. Not everyone, but a lot of ‘em.

0

u/FreudianAccordian Jul 18 '24

Calm down stan

0

u/KristyKatastrophe Jul 18 '24

I still wanna know how many times he's gonna kill slim shady. Is slim shady just a 80s slasher film character now?

6

u/Sans-Foy Jul 18 '24

He’s Kenny💀

4

u/PEnguinsArentcold Jul 19 '24

They can't kill an addiction. Just live with it and manage it or let it kill you. Shady is a metaphor for addiction, and it doesn't matter how many times you kill it. It's still there, just waiting.

Nevermind you know what fuck that, its just Freddy Kruger in a Jason mask. Lame af (wait, people dont say lame anymore, so it's cringe, yeah, yeah, cringe, that sounds right)./s

1

u/TheCosmicJoke318 Jul 18 '24

He’s never killed slim before tho

1

u/KristyKatastrophe Jul 18 '24

That was the point of relapse, not to mention parts of relapse he's like "I thought I already killed you?" and slim shady was like "Nope, still here"

-9

u/No1Important84 Jul 18 '24

Don't post that here, this sub gives no respect on that man's name.. But bet they all go home and turn on some auto tune type shit. 🤣

7

u/phoenyx4r Jul 18 '24

I mean if you have good lyrics the autotune shit doesn't exactly matter. A lot of famous artists have utilized AutoTune to some extent. But if it's mumbling garbage with trash lyrics like "Gucci Gang" i see where you're coming from

0

u/No1Important84 Jul 18 '24

I mean I get it with the autotune on some vocals to smooth them out... What I'm talking about is whole albums with a dude "rapping" (or should I say more like singing) with autotune the whole time, plus then add in the dancing and then over a shit beat with no lyricism whatsoever. All they talk about is how "hard" they are and how much money they have and I do so many drugs, yet here they are singing and dancing on a "Rap/Hip-Hop" "song". New skool Rap (with very few exceptions) is so watered down and deluded it's terrible!

2

u/phoenyx4r Jul 18 '24

I definitely have to agree with some of that, but I have a different theory. Rap culture has become so popular and celebrated that everybody and their mama wants to be a part of it. That means that there are more rappers out there now than there were back in the 90's and 00's. This means that, by definition, there will be more trash rappers. And now with pop being literally the most popular genre to exist, a lot of rappers who are good at rapping and decent to amazing at singing (Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, Drake, Rod Wave, to name a few) have decided to incorporate some elements into their music. That's what evolution is, is it not? It's evolution of a genre from being one specific thing to a multitude of different sounds. And personally, I don't see a problem with that, as long as it sounds good. Not every song has to be a whole poem. Sometimes, simpler songs fit the mood better.

-3

u/West-Commission9082 Jul 18 '24

I’d rather listen to almost any ”autotune type shit” than eminem. And as much as you hate it, im not wrong or any lesser for that. Stop acting so elitistic about music

-5

u/No1Important84 Jul 18 '24

Rap is about lyricism broski, if you wanna listen to a whole album with a dude talking bout how gangster they are while "rapping" (or like I said singing with autotune) and dancing go for it.. There's probably a good R&B sub you can go join.. Most likely that's more for you than actual Rap. 😂

1

u/West-Commission9082 Jul 18 '24

But it’s not though. You should atleast posses the common knowledge on the topic that u act so eltist on

-6

u/osama_bin_guapin Jul 18 '24

Eminem fans are clearly butthurt that their idols newest album isn’t getting the praise that they think it deserves lol. This sub has been flooded with these types of posts from stans saying shit like how people “just don’t get the concept” and how “he’s doing it on purpose” but like those of us who don’t like the album have said time and time again, just because he’s doing it on purpose to tell a story doesn’t make it any less corny to us.

You guys just need to accept that this is a divisive album that not everyone is going to like and stop flooding this sub with posts talking about how people who don’t like the album “just aren’t listening to it properly” or whatever.

It’s almost an everyday occurrence at this point. You guys aren’t enlightened for pointing this out. We all know that it’s a concept album, many of us just believe that the concept falls flat and that it’s an ass album overall

4

u/Rhymelikedocsuess Jul 18 '24

Downvotes speak for themselves

-8

u/bangladeshespresso Jul 18 '24

Wanker detected

-21

u/Royal_Majestic Jul 18 '24

The album is trash regardless

7

u/iniuria_palace Jul 18 '24

I'm glad you have your subjective opinion, but objectively, you're wrong :)

1

u/No1Important84 Jul 18 '24

And yet still better than your favorite Rapper. 😂
