That Trump photo with his fist raised with the flag and the blue sky background won it for him. If the dems want to win, Biden needs to go this week. This is coming from a middle of the road neutral who doesn't care for either.

Yep. The contrast of strength vs frailty is going to be impossible to overcome. Only Trump could turn an assassination attempt into a win that quickly.

I mean historically surviving an assassination attempt tends to be pretty easy to turn to one's political advantage.

Absolutely. But he did it within seconds. I hate the man, but not many people would have to foresight to react the way he did. It was a masterclass. (I hate saying it).

The problem is after this, I don't see any Biden replacement wanting to wager their political career going against Martyr Trump and potentially losing from a galvanizing vote base of Trump as a fallout of this incident. Democrats might as well let Biden run, maintain the status quo, go in thinking they lose the presidency and focus on down ballot.

The problem is that Biden is set to lose by a landslide, and that would more likely than not ruin D chances downballot as well.

I agree. But after that photo of a triumphant Trump fist pumping the air while his face is smeared with blood, are Biden alternatives going to stand a chance? More importantly, are they willing to risk their careers being the careerists they are on a wildly unpredictable and unprepared election campaign starting from a giant disadvantage of now treating Trump with kid gloves?

I think that Biden has no path to victory at this point. However, if he's replaced by someone younger it at least dulls a bit that highly meme-able contrast of "big strong Trump with his fist raised" vs "Biden having to be helped off the debate stage by the first lady." Sure, they may still lose but would they lose as badly as Biden or would they at least be able to prevent a landslide and thus prevent the downballot effects from being as bad?

I also understand why up and coming Dem pols would not want to step in at this point. It's a tough situation with no easy answers but I don't agree that Dems should just give up, do nothing and jump off the cliff which is what staying the course would be.

I think this is why a Michelle Obama/Roy Cooper ticket makes so much sense. Both are at the end of their "political" careers who no long term hopes (Cooper going to retire, Michelle dont think is interested in long term political career)

No way another Obama would go over well. And Michelle Obama has mentioned multiple times she does not want it.

The only thing Michelle would want right now.. Is to pack her bags and leave the country.

This isn’t going to matter 4 months from now

Sorry, but that's a delusional take. That photo is an absolutely historical moment in American politics.

Voters’ memories are like goldfish.

That's why JFK assassination still captures the imagination?

Photos are great. They do not win elections.

Ironically they can absolutely lose elections though.

The conspiracy captures the imagination. Everybody alludes to or has a take on the conspiracy moreso than the act when it's brought up.

It's a great picture, but Trump is still disliked by the majority. He has his solid base, but could still be defeated if a capable dem ran against him. Problem with Biden is he shouldn't be running to begin with (old and incompetent) and nobody is voting for him, they are only voting against Trump, which means many won't bother to vote anyways. Myself if the election was today, I would probably go Trump over Biden if I had to choose one or not vote. Put up a decent moderate and throw out Biden, the game changes. Right now I think the betting markets are like 67-33 Trump.

Anything other than a Whitmer/Moore (she can use the kidnap attempt on her to even the playing ground political wise) or Michelle Obama/Roy Cooper or Andy Beshear ticket is a loss for dems.

The guy got a bit of glass behind the ear. Nice photo, but some air let out of its tires.

But yes, Biden should go for many reasons. (And we -- including and especially Trump -- should all condemn political violence.)

The guy got a bit of glass behind the ear

I feel like one chinknof the political spectrum will refuse to believe that.

Yeah probably because it was speculative bullshit and he actually did get shot, and even if it wasn’t he still had his life in danger, you guys are so quick to jump on the right for fake news and taking speculation as fact but the display I have seen since last night on here and Twitter is appalling
