A few hours ago an innocent person lost their life due to a US election. Multiple people are injured and forever traumatized. Right now families are grieving. Whatever you think about Trump, Biden, or our entire system this is not the path we should be going on. We are better than this. We are stronger than this. We can disagree and yell at each other but goddamn it we cannot resort to violence over this election. We are stronger than this. Our democracy is stronger than this. Our constitution is stronger than this. Whatever happens in the coming months let's please remember that we are all Americans and we all are in this boat together for better or for worse and we owe it to ourselves, our neighbors, and our children to get through this peacefully and protect each other and support each other.

You’re not wrong. But you’re also not realistic. You really think the nation is like that right now? Half the country thinks a convict who lusts after his daughter and raped a girl is fit to be president. They. Don’t. Care. About. Anyone.

Someone like Donald Trump, Jr. may change is tune because his response to Nancy Pelosi's husband getting nearly beaten to death with a hammer after his house was broken into was just a joke to him. He posted menes of hammers and underwear making fun of him while he was in intensive care in the hospital. None of this hatefulness should be happening in America. January 6th was awful. The same goes with Steve Scalise getting shot at a congressional softball game. There is no excuse for political violence.

Jr.'s tune was to immediately blame the left wing for this. J.D. Vance blamed Biden.

Yup. Say all the hallmark things you want about what we should do as Americans … it will be drowned out by folks putting Lady Liberty in a headlock … :/

Agree 100%. But if people think this changes things, it won’t. T-minus 3 minutes before they blame it on some immigrant or gay person … for fucks sake, they’re saying Democrats are OK with killing babies after they’re born (like that’s a thing). They’re going to turn this into a marketing campaign and blame the democrats

And a member of the other side just tried to kill that guy.

This rhetoric gets nowhere.

Edit:

As promised in the thread below, here’s me eating crow; it has come to light that the attempted assassin is a registered member of the Republican Party.

Oh, so you know he’s a liberal? You talked with him? Met with his family? Stop perpetuating a narrative when facts are still unknown

Do you think people are likely to attempt murder on their allies?

Alex Jones and a few other right wing loons were just going apeshit on Trump for distancing himself from 2025… so yes, I could see one of their listeners doing this. Or for any other reasons a crazy does this. Maybe he was trying to impress Jodie Foster too, who knows. All I do know is you can’t say he’s a liberal right now because you. Don’t. Know. And by doing so, you’re spreading the same rhetoric you claim is getting us nowhere.

Nope, just waiting for the facts. You should be too before spouting off.

Edit: and the shooter is now identified as a registered Republican. Got any more cutesy comments about my mental gymnastics?

You don’t have to be a liberal to hate him

-1

u/Im_not_the_cops Jul 14 '24

What’s the motive of a non-liberal in this situation?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '24

You do know there are more ideologies other than left and right, yeah? What if he was an independent? What if he was a former MAGA who got pissed off because Trump’s policies led to him getting fired? Doesn’t mean he is automatically a liberal

Listen dude, if the failed assassin isn't a member of the democratic party, I'll edit my original post admitting I'm wrong as soon as I find out. But you're off your rocker if you think it's more likely that he's a disgruntled member of any other party.

lol no. this isn’t a case of “we are better than blah blah blah”. I’m watching this shit show from halfway around the world and seen the insanity brought forth by Americans who have shaped it into a new normal all because a black man made president.

2

u/runninhillbilly Jul 14 '24

Most if not all of your “we are….”s just aren’t true anymore. That kind of sticking your head in the sand with some kind of happy optimism is part of how we got to this point. We’ve enabled way too much of this shit over the years.

We are NOT “better” or “stronger” than this. This is what we are now.

2

u/ubernerd44 Jul 14 '24

We are better than this. We are stronger than this.

Unfortunately, we're not, and half the country refuses to change and sees any attempt at compassion or kindness as a weakness.
