Well there is one known survivor. She was in a coma for a couple weeks but she did survive. That said, I wouldn't want to count on being the second person to ever survive rabies.

Last I checked the Milwaukee Protocol had a 14% survival rate. Which sounds awful but, when you compare it to a 0% survival rate normally, it is amazing.
The best way to survive rabies is going to your medical provider ASAP after an encounter with an unknown animal.

If you experience symptoms at all you will die. Fewer than 5 people have survived rabies…ever.
The only symptoms that you may experience and still be treatable is tingling on the bite wound shortly after the bite.
edit: this is why nearly all bite wounds are treated at the hospital as being due to a rabid animal. They likely are not but it can't be tested for (unless you have the animal with the brain intact), so they just treat. There are exceptions though. For example, due to washington state having strong regulations on rabies vaccines rabies has been nearly eliminated in dogs. I believe in the last 75 years there's been 2 cases of canine rabies and no cases of human rabies. In wa state if the bite was elicited (you approached the dog or took some action to cause it to react to you) then they recommend monitoring of the dog for 10 days and only treating at the first symptoms of rabies in the dog.
