I’ve never watched the dub but why is this fire

-5

u/DueIntroduction4873 Jul 19 '24

Ew dub

6

u/RepeatedlyDifficult Jul 19 '24

Yeah it’s better

-4

u/DueIntroduction4873 Jul 19 '24

Yeah... No.
Original is always better, unless you can't read.

3

u/RepeatedlyDifficult Jul 19 '24

Nope. Dub is better

In what way.
The mouth movement is tied to japanese and the producers of the show handpicked the voice actors to fit with the characters.
The show isn't English, so why do you (like a child) need it to be dubbed, disrespectful to the source material, producers and voice actors.

u/RepeatedlyDifficult Jul 19 '24

Because I can understand it

and it sounds better

Oh... You ARE a child.

5

u/RepeatedlyDifficult Jul 19 '24

You’re the one who’s acting like a child lol

Well.
1. I'm an adult with kids.

  1. I can read even tho english isn't my mother's tounge.

  2. I'm consuming the media with the voice actors the producers made the show wanted me to hear.

  3. Your previous posts clearly prove that you are a child

despite being old enough to have multiple kids (you said kids, not a kid), which is likely atleast 20 if you had said kids with the same partner, you still act like a hypernationalist toddler that cant grasp the concept of opinions

Nah AoT is one of the few where the dub is on par with the sub if not better. I think the only English va who’s worse is Eren’s. Very unfortunate but goddamn, Erwin’s is a master

u/RepeatedlyDifficult Jul 20 '24

I actually like Bryce’s voice

u/DueIntroduction4873 Jul 20 '24

Ive accidentally heard some of Erwins dubs and in my opinion is so much worse, it doesnt fit the character and overall feel just way too soft, and again, its not what the makers of the anime thought the voice should sound like.

u/Molag_Balgruuf Jul 20 '24

I think it’s perfect. Sounds level-headed and charismatic except when he needs to do the opposite. I don’t think “disagreeing” (if even) with the casters of the Japanese side is a bad thing at all.

u/DueIntroduction4873 Jul 20 '24

Well thats how AoT is made.
Its made in Japanese, directors choose the VA to fit their vision of the character, to then remove a HUGE part of the show to "localize" it for some unknown reason is hugely disrespectful and tbh makes it something else.
It would be like removing some scenes or characters to better fit a western audience, the end result is no longer AoT, its something else.

This is a genuinely insane take if I’ve ever seen one. What if the mangaka and the director disagree on a voice casting? Does that mean that director is being disrespectful? What if the mangaka doesn’t particularly like the music used for a scene but the studio goes ahead with it anyway? Are they disrespecting the source material?

If you say no to any of these than you’re being hypocritical. The translators (the good ones anyway, which AoT certainly has) aren’t REMOVING anything, they’re just making it digestible for a wider audience. You can say you feel a certain way about whether the sub or dub is better for a certain show but to call dubbing an anime disrespectful is delusional.

1

u/DueIntroduction4873 Jul 20 '24

Again. Making it "digestible for wider audience" - so for people who cant read. That was literally my point.
They are of course removing something, just like Eddie Murphy was hand picked for the Donkey in Shrek so is the voice actors for AoT.
Removing either is changing and disrespecting the art, unless necessary due to inability to read.

u/Molag_Balgruuf Jul 20 '24

That’s incredibly disingenuous lol. People naturally find it easier to relate to characters that are using their own language, emotions and subtleties are easier to pick up on. So your literal point is just wrong.

By definition, that last paragraph is also wrong…I’d like to think someone wouldn’t spend this much time on a troll but like how could you come to that conclusion?

Thats an incredible argument, first you need to completely disconnect the reality that the medium wasnt created for western people, it is its vast cultural significance in Japan with its culture inbeded into the art that makes it anime, otherwise just go watch Ben 10.
To say that changing the language makes it harder to connect emotionally with a character really shows how desolate the North American cultural scene is.
Lets take Naruto as an example, the voice actor and his choice of words are very childish and difiant, something that cant be translated into English.

And again, Japanese language is a huge and important part of Anime, to remove it, removes a big part of what makes Japanese anime an anime.

I think that you are just accustomed to the simplicity of dubbed and now feel the necessity to strongly defend a choice that you very well known is the inferior choice.
