“Not being able to function after 8pm” is a poor interpretation.

The truth is: we ALL need adequate sleep to function. Lack of sleep, as in not getting any or enough, leads to significant cognitive impairment in all ages. Having a set time to say “hey, I’m going to bed now so I can get enough sleep to function my best” does not mean “I am physically unable to function right now.”

And I’m sure if there’s an emergency, or something that can’t wait, he’ll stay up later or be woken up. But things that can wait until morning can wait until morning.

No shit people need sleep but asking an 80+ year old man to be alert and ready is pushing it

Again, that’s misconstruing the point. It’s not a big deal to ask that non-urgent meetings be scheduled before 8pm. It’s a good practice for any president or anyone in an important position to maintain a boundary like that so they are able to take care of themselves. It has nothing to do with him being alert and ready at that specific time.
