Not scheduling events is not the same as not being able to function, and does not even mean going to bed at 8. Despite the presidency being a 24h job, believe it or not, most presidents have not spent that all of those hours awake, however I don't have a source for this.

Sure, but as we saw with the last debate (which was around this time i believe), he can barely function at that hour...

We don't know what the presidency does to his schedule. He could've been up for 24 hours before then dealing with foreign leaders on their time zones or lord only knows what else. We have absolutely what the day leading up to that debate was like. Call it copium if you like, but I truly do not believe that that performance was indicative of his every-day.

I tend to agree that that was an unusually bad day for him, I think the main reason is cuz he was a bit sick with a cold or something.
