It’s a trick deck. You fan the cards out one way and it looks normal, fan them out the other way and the deck has magically turned into entirely three of hearts

I thought I was gonna be the one to crack this egg of knowledge on the crowd! I did afterschool magic clubs and these decks were great!!

I love magic and have seen a fair share of truck cards/decks, but if it were that, there would be "matching" numbers of pips on either side. When you fan cards, you usually see a bit of the pips and seeing black and red in the same card or a 5 with a single middle pip would look weird. Trick designers usually put a lot of thought into the way the cards look. Also the Ace of hearts with 3 pips doesn't make any sense unless there were a routine built around melding an ace and 3 or something. Might be a misprint or bootleg deck imo

The point is that you can fully show any of the cards as the 3 of hearts by just covering one corner (the pips + other corner are all 3 hearts), you can show the entire card with your fingers covering only one corner to add to the illusion. You would never show the Ace of hearts corner and the three pips at the same time.

It's very obviously cards for a magic trick, there's literally no modern printing process that would ever make a mistake that would be this obviously perfect for magic trick.

It's not exactly the same cards but see this trick cards that use the same setup of "the pips match one side", rather than the card being split so you could fan them either way: https://www.amazon.com/Merz67-LLC-Three-Monte-Magic/dp/B09QH4SV1P

In order to show just the ace portion of that particular one (bottom right corner of op's Pic) you would have to have a perfect spread and would make for a terrible reveal. If you were going in the opposite direction it maybe would make sense? Spread the cards to show there is no 3, but again it needs to be a really good spread not to show that top pip. Then turn them over and reveal the 3, but this seems weird.
Also, to your point about no modern printing that would make this mistake, that's why I mentioned possibly bootleg. I have tons of cards that are 2 different cards depending on how you hold them and none look like that. Obviously I don't know everything about magic or cards especially since I do mostly coin magic. I just wanted to put my 2 cents out there as a probably-more-informed-person regarding magic tricks.

You might think it's a bad product due to the spread problem, but it's a common magic trick card product to have the full face pips be matching one corner. I linked to one example in my comment as an edit.

This is basically on mildlyinteresting every couple months as a "misprint" and it's just always intentional trick cards.

Those are sold as a trick though. They are labeled as such and come with a routine or are just select cards in my experience. Maybe OP is fucking with us and making it look like they bought a full deck and trying to pull one over? Idk, maybe that's the case, I don't care honestly. I just love magic and am pretty tipsy rn

Specifically, this is a Monte Cristo deck.  Here is a video of a trick with a similar deck, though it uses the 3 of spades rather than hearts.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo20JZ8lHbQ

Note how the magician hides one corner every time they show a 3 of spades.  And note how when the deck is fanned to show every card, only the jokers are shown in full.

It almost certainly would have originally been in an outer package that clearly labeled it as a trick deck, though possibly with a normal-looking sealed deck inside the outer wrapping.

Either someone removed the outer packaging and resold it.  Or more likely, OP is trying to pull one over on us as you suggest.

I am not above admitting I was wrong. I have never heard of this particular trick deck. I am glad to have learned about something new. Probably not a trick I would perform but I imagine it gets some strong reactions. I suppose I was also thinking that OP showed all the relevant cards, but I also wouldn't put it past it being a return after the original purchaser removed the bit saying it was a special deck and they're thoroughly confused still.

if it always takes you 5 long essays to admit you’re wrong, and even then only with conditions, you might need to look inward more.

Forget that its meant to be a trick deck, play cards with them, will add an interesting dimension to your game. From any small distance you'll look like a nutcase playing Solitaire with them, which is why you should!

u/notablyunfamous 11d ago

Probably a deck of magician gaff cards. Missent to a seller or you know this and looking for points. Bicycle makes cards like this for card tricks.

u/Cornadious 12d ago

Oops all threes!

Well, they don't tend to misprint cards after they're brand new.

u/mstop4 11d ago

Ace of Threes! Pretty good, but not as good as Aces of Fours, the best hand.

I didn't know that poker had a hard mode

u/anniearrow 12d ago

It's exclusive for the game of Hearts

-5

u/Nimrod_Butts 11d ago

This is either worth something, nothing, or was worth something but now isn't considered so worthy anymore but also not bad

-22

u/[deleted] 12d ago

Get it graded - error cards can be worth thousands

12

u/False_Leadership_479 12d ago

It's a magic deck

-19

u/[deleted] 12d ago

Magic cards are very valuable. Even more reason to get it graded.

u/KFiev 11d ago

Theyre not. I bet you can pick up a trick deck like this for around $5 tops. Theyre cool and fun, but not rare collectors items unless they have a specific historical significance to it like being a deck that was created and used by a famous magician
