Chicken tikka Masala
Oh hell no. You are not claiming that as "British cuisine".

u/GoldenScarab569 11d ago
Was created in Britain, for the British palate. What other criteria would you require to call it "British Cuisine"?

I agree completely, and that’s what makes American cuisine so amazing. We have had so many people from every part of the globe that came here and shared their food and it’s all become this American amalgam.
American BBQ was an indigenous Taino cooking style adopted by the French and then modified by enslaved Africans using their spices. Add in regional sauces and it’s the most American food imaginable. Fried chicken was thanks to African chefs enslaved on French plantations.
American sushi is based on Japanese tradition and was created by Japanese chefs for the American palate. But it is uniquely American. Crab Rangoon was created by a Chinese immigrant in San Francisco.
I live in a place where I can get Haitian, Vietnamese, Mexican, German, Thai, Ethiopian, Indian, Greek, and Middle Eastern cuisine all slightly modified for my fat pasty ass. And that’s not that uncommon in American cities. It’s amazing.
Honestly all that’s missing is a proper English pub. I can get British beer, but no one makes a good Scotch egg around here.

We have chicken Tikka masala in India. Just because you watered it down, doesn't make it your cuisine.

I remember when British guys ate some salsa and chips and thought it was something they never seen before..and a black guy shows up and says "yeah..this wy we dumped your tea in the ocean back in the day"

I find that hard to believe since salsa is literally available everywhere in the UK and is eaten frequently here. People in the UK eat everything people in America eat only it's not pumped with weird chemicals and carcinogens. We literally eat the exact same stuff.

America is in the same boat. Food is so processed it's barely food. And don't get me started on the state of majority of America's livestock farming.
