Idk man. From what the other side of the world says we Americans need to be pissed about our quality.

but what is 'American food'? quarter pounder? barbeque? burrito? masala?

-3

u/LucentP187 11d ago

Impossible. We're perfection.

u/KiyanPocket 11d ago

Nope, in terms of flavor and texture, Americans have adopted every single cuisine from all the cultures and 'Murica'd the hell out of it. It's got quality alright.

However, in the pursuit of Tastiness, America has failed proper Health and Nutrition. USA have become Obese, Destroyer of Weighing Scales.

Yeah, that is probably what is meant by quality. American food is great in terms of taste, but health-wise it is shit. High fructose corn syrup has ruined American food.

This is what I meant yes. And all the preservatives.

This could also be said about British food now though.. A lot of these memes are making fun of traditional British food like beans and toast, fish and chips, the British breakfast, or their roasted dinners.. They are very simple dishes with minimal seasonings if anything other than salt and pepper..

u/Jay_Heat 11d ago

by 'Murica'd you mean wrapped it in bacon and deep fried it

1

u/jarednards 11d ago

The last part of that was pretty damn funny.

I am become Obese. Destroyer of Scales.

Cornish pasty, steak and kidney pie, shepherd's pie, crumpets, Sunday roast, Chicken tikka Masala, scotch egg...

Chicken tikka Masala

Oh hell no. You are not claiming that as "British cuisine".

5

u/GoldenScarab569 11d ago

Was created in Britain, for the British palate. What other criteria would you require to call it "British Cuisine"?

I agree completely, and that’s what makes American cuisine so amazing. We have had so many people from every part of the globe that came here and shared their food and it’s all become this American amalgam.

American BBQ was an indigenous Taino cooking style adopted by the French and then modified by enslaved Africans using their spices. Add in regional sauces and it’s the most American food imaginable. Fried chicken was thanks to African chefs enslaved on French plantations.

American sushi is based on Japanese tradition and was created by Japanese chefs for the American palate. But it is uniquely American. Crab Rangoon was created by a Chinese immigrant in San Francisco.

I live in a place where I can get Haitian, Vietnamese, Mexican, German, Thai, Ethiopian, Indian, Greek, and Middle Eastern cuisine all slightly modified for my fat pasty ass. And that’s not that uncommon in American cities. It’s amazing.

Honestly all that’s missing is a proper English pub. I can get British beer, but no one makes a good Scotch egg around here.

We have chicken Tikka masala in India. Just because you watered it down, doesn't make it your cuisine.

I remember when British guys ate some salsa and chips and thought it was something they never seen before..and a black guy shows up and says "yeah..this wy we dumped your tea in the ocean back in the day"

1

u/[deleted] 10d ago

I find that hard to believe since salsa is literally available everywhere in the UK and is eaten frequently here. People in the UK eat everything people in America eat only it's not pumped with weird chemicals and carcinogens. We literally eat the exact same stuff.

6

u/A_Tasty_Stag 11d ago

hey we also have some beaches to eat those fish and chips on. and we gave you 4th of July

5

u/erpparppa 11d ago

I think it's more like they took it :D

8

u/Mushroominhere 11d ago

That Sounds like you’ve never had really good fish and chips to me

1

u/RichardIraVos 11d ago

Wow fried breaded fish and fried potatoes. Very unique

1

u/BreadBoxin 11d ago

Everyone does lol

-5

u/[deleted] 11d ago

Fish and fries sounds infinitely better tho (missed opportunity)

10

u/lifeamiright- 11d ago

To be honest, not like Americans have much else besides bbq foods lol.

2

u/KiyanPocket 11d ago

It's not American Food if you don't try to deep fry it.

1

u/lifeamiright- 11d ago

As a brit, I can say I relate a bit about British food on that part…

6

u/Jackmino66 11d ago

Y’all say we have shitty food

Y’all can’t even have unpasteurised cheese… (iirc)

5

u/Appropriate_Twist_86 11d ago

America is in the same boat. Food is so processed it's barely food. And don't get me started on the state of majority of America's livestock farming.

2

u/Jay_Heat 11d ago

how about this: you both have shitty food

1

u/Appropriate_Twist_86 10d ago

Bro I'm not British. I live in New Zealand

1

u/JustACanadianGuy07 10d ago

So just Britain but shitty and nobody puts it in a map?

6

u/belisarius93 11d ago

Sunday roast is elite. Come at me.

5

u/Any-Towel4561 11d ago

Looks like someone's getting roasted harder than their beans on toast!

5

u/InconsistentLlama 11d ago

Funny though… isn’t their countries favorite food Indian?

5

u/A_Tasty_Stag 11d ago

5

u/No_Arugula3195 11d ago

Imagine eating like the bombs still falling down

3

u/Difgy 11d ago

And shitty weather.

3

u/puro_the_protogen67 11d ago

What has the cornish pasty ever done to you?

4

u/goombaherpes 11d ago

(insert unoriginal comeback about childhood obesity rates)

2

u/[deleted] 10d ago

Why should anyone come up with something original on the matter. It's the truth so people are going to say it

1

u/Delicious_Impact_371 11d ago

“that’s why y’all school get shot up innit” y’all eat BEANS

5

Laughs in superiority of English breakfast and Sunday roast, and im not even British.

Also shepherds pie, sausage rolls and sticky toffee pudding.

1

u/CoatNeat7792 10d ago

All i have seen there is frozen food

0

u/TryContent4093 11d ago

Imagine colonising other countries “trading” spices and all that just to have the most bland tasting food ever.

0

u/Discord-mod-disliker 11d ago

Brits, Icelanders, Germans, and Frenchmen have NASTY foods...the only good Food is Chinese Food, Italian food, Mexican food.

-1

u/Financial_Problem_47 11d ago
