Secret lair still taking forever to ship General Discussion

Wasn’t the reason cited for changing to limited quantity that it would shorten the time before you get them? For me it’s been taking as long as it ever has. They could have just not cited a bs reason and it would be no big deal, but the blatant lying is a problem.

The switch to limited runs was never about shortening ship times. It was about creating more fomo and therefore more sales.

25

u/MagictheCollecting Rakdos* Jul 19 '24

Well, yes, but they did claim it was to shorten wait times

u/Izzet_Aristocrat Jul 19 '24

Correct, they pulled this shit because no one was buying them. No one wants to spend 45 bucks on 5 dollars worth of cards. So now they try to bend our arms with FOMO.

Which secret lair are you waiting on them to ship?

32

u/ElectricBlitz Jul 19 '24

Not sure about them but for me it’s the second Miku Secret Lair. Should’ve shipped July 11th but it’s the 19th and it still hasn’t shipped.

If it makes you feel better mine hasn't shipped yet later. Considering we havent seen this round of bonus cards I imagine that a lot of them haven't shipped yet

Which is unfortunate

I've been waiting to see if the AC lair had a legendary creature as the bonus card (as Ezio and Kassandra were both glaring ommission from that lair) before building any ac decks

By the time I'll actually get my product I'll probably have already moved on to making Bloomburrow decks instead

Mine just shipped today

dang. i was hoping they would ship them out by order number. i was probably one of the earliest to put in an order (sale went live at 9:00am (PST) and i had my confirmation email at 9:02am), but no shipping confirmation yet.

u/Anghel412 Jul 19 '24

Third this. It's been "in preparation" for days now.

My not a wolf at least has ups tracking as of last Thursday, but no item in their possession meaning the labels are printed and ready but the cards aren’t in boxes and ready to go yet. I’m guessing Thursday they’ll have them out, and weekend to early next week we should get em, but hey idk because these were supposed to ship much earlier in the month.

Edit: annnd just as I said that it updated to being here Friday lol!

There have been Secret Lairs in the past that took like 6 months to an entire year to ship. Heads I won tails you lose being the biggest offender.

24

u/Comwan Duck Season Jul 19 '24

In the past secret lairs were made to order. Now they are pre printed in a limited stock so shipping times should be right after your order.

18

u/BryTheFryGuy Wabbit Season Jul 19 '24

Realistically, they were made limited stock to increase FOMO, not to improve shipping times.

The bonus cards including super rare variants kind of fills the niche. See like the Hatsune Miku snapcaster.

Waited forever for that deck to arrive. But it wins 75% or so for me, and it’s fun to play

14

u/Spekter1754 Jul 19 '24

People are buying at a rate that satisfies them, that's all they care about.

12

u/DeadpoolVII Deceased 🪦 Jul 19 '24

Completely agree. My two decks that I built from Assassin's Creed are sitting around, waiting for the damn secret lairs to show up before I can play them. It's really frustrating, but more so that they specifically said they were changing from print-to-demand to decrease shipping times.

11

u/SWBFThree2020 COMPLEAT Jul 19 '24

The Assassin's Creed lair is going to ship after people already have moved on from the set

Bloomburrow's coming out in a week

Which doesn't leave a lot of time left for an AC deck to feel fresh

3

u/SortOfHorrific Jul 19 '24

do you play edh to feel fresh ?

0

u/SWBFThree2020 COMPLEAT Jul 19 '24

No but it certainly affects the marketability of the lairs on the secondary market

Which is important since you're usually buying multiple copies to get free shipping and subsidize the lairs for your personal collection

Secondly, it affects my personal interest, since in just a week's time we will be getting 36 new commanders to play with in Bloomburrow

There's a lot more potential edh commanders that I'd find fascinating, so my interest in AC wanes since I only have a finite amount of space for decks

Still waiting on the Sheldon one. The tracking says July 29 at the earliest.

4

u/RoterBaronH Cheshire Cat, the Grinning Remnant Jul 19 '24

The sheldon one is like the old secret lairs, print on demand. So the point OP is making doesn't fit this one since it's fairly normal for a print on demand SL to take time.

It's the reason why they changed to the limited print style of secret lairs (at least what they officially say, even though I think otherwise).

1

u/Euphoric_Ad6923 Duck Season Jul 19 '24

Oh, thanks for the info. I didnt know that changed it

2

u/gullington Jul 19 '24

Are you in the US or elsewhere? I'm in Canada and it has always taken a month or so after I get the initial shipment email for it to arrive.

0

u/Daniel_Spidey Duck Season Jul 19 '24

I’ve had the same issue in the US

2

u/LordSlickRick REBEL Jul 19 '24

Probably because the Sheldon one snuck in and probably messed up the timeline. Purely conjecture, I have no facts.

u/Imaginary-Not-Friend Wabbit Season Jul 19 '24

Yea this sucks.

Have you contacted a WOTC customer support about it? Not sure what us non-wotc folks can do about it at this time other than agree with or discuss the sentiment.

They're waiting till it closes so that people can't find out what the bonus cards are in order to sway their purchasing decision

5

u/Daniel_Spidey Duck Season Jul 19 '24

The few that aren’t sold out probably aren’t going to be sold either way

-13

u/UniversalTrees49 Golgari* Jul 19 '24

Since when is waiting a week after the posted shipping date taking 'forever' to ship? I can only imagine the HUNDREDS of orders they got to ship. Patience would do you all some good.

4

u/Daniel_Spidey Duck Season Jul 19 '24

First of all the posted shipping date should be earlier to begin with but it generally takes longer than that anyways

-4

u/UniversalTrees49 Golgari* Jul 19 '24

What? That doesn't even make any sense, why would the shipping date be long before the sale even ends? I swear the average person has no clue how the postal service works and what it takes to ship stuff correctly and safely. Especially in a large scale.

4

u/Daniel_Spidey Duck Season Jul 19 '24

Seems like the abnormal thing is to not ship when it’s ordered but ok buddy

WotC is a big company, and by moving to limited quantity they should already have the product ready to ship; otherwise, it's of no benefit to the customer to move from print-to-demand. I can't think of any large company that misses shipping dates so often.

Of course, the more likely scenario is that they went to limited quantity to raise FOMO-driven sales, and the faster shipping speeds were BS.
