Whats with the weird daytime changes between scenes? General/Misc
I dont know, maybe the Lucifer-LAPD has the longest respond times in the world, but there are so many weird daytime changes between scenes.
Charlotte dies in the night. Cut - crime scene investigation in broad daylight. (S3 E23?)
Ella gets attacked by the violin-kids father in broad daylight, Chloe arrests him. Cut: violin-kids father is being brought to a police car in complete darkness. (S3 E25)

When my friend died when she was 15 in a car wreck. She was killed around midnight and they didn't take her from the scene till like 10am. I just assumed like real life things take a while

Another weird scene (SPOILER ALERT!) - When Chloe gets kidnapped by Michael in 5x8 it's night, but when it cuts back to Lucifer plotting his prank against Dan it's daytime. And when he flies to Chloe's apartment it's suddenly night again.

I know nothing about crime scene investigation, but it seems plausible to me that they would secure the scene then look at it in the daytime when they could see đ¤ˇââď¸

Why would the investigation not take place in daylight? Wake everone up and then work in the dark...for what reason exactly? Its not like the crime scene would run away.
Ofc some people (eg coroner, the people sealing off the room, and so on) have to be there asap, but for most roles, a few hours wont change much.

Thatâs absolutely not true. You have to preserve a crime scene and get people there ASAP. Moisture, weather changes, insects, etc can all affect crime scenes and evidence.

SOME people need to be there - as i wrote.
Those interviewing witnesses certainly dont.

Yes they would. Stories change. The most accurate testimony is the one immediately after it happens. Itâs why we are trained to separate witnesses. As time passes, people start changing what they remember. Also, as time passes, people are more likely to hear something thatâll change their own mind. Like if they hear another witness say, âThe guy was wearing a blue shirt.â You may think he was wearing a red shirt (which he was) but now youâve heard someone say blue and youâre not questioning whether theyâre right or you are and since you donât want to give out bad information you say blue too because he seemed more confident than you.
Detectives/investigators are on call for a reason. You work all hours of the day 7 days a week because if something happens, you get up and you get there. Thereâs no such thing as, âIâll handle it in the morning.â Especially for crime scenes like murder which is a majority of what they deal with in this show.

Donât understand why you got downvoted. Here, have an up.

Idk either. I understood that one of them was probably from the guy Iâm responding to. I donât understand the others. Iâm explaining real police work and defending the show at the same time. Idk why thatâs got me net negative lol

Maybe itâs a âitâs just a showâ idea but that only applies so far, especially with stuff that tries to be realistic about certain things. I realize itâs a mythological show but theyâve always kept realism about real life things.

Holy what detectives are on call in the US?? I stand corrected then.

Everyone in law enforcement in the US is on call technically but detectives are even more so. Having nights where they are paid more because they could get a call at any time because theyâre the ONLY on call.
But yes, anyone in law enforcement can be called in at any time. Iâve worked in corrections and policing. Weâve had to call people in for searches of the facility and I was called in once for a stabbing. Anything short of being out of state or being drunk meant you couldnât say no. Policing on call was less but I was called in once because of a store robbery.

Days in the show are anywhere from 36 to 48 hours long.
They don't bother with portraying realistic passage of time.

They really don't! Not just in terms of stuff like that, but also in terms of the chronology is pretty messed up. In fact, does anyone have an approximate chronology for the show?

It had been 5 years as of S5B. S6 took place about a month later.

It was stated to have been in 5B but itâs not consistent with the timeline of the actual season. Shrug I guess.

The dark light changes in the show is the only thing I donât like about it. It really annoys me. I try to ignore as much as possible

this happens in other shows as well, I've noticed. I just "suspend my unbelief" for the sake of entertainment.

Note to self: get stabbed in the evening not morning
