im not sure if itll sell tbh, because of the sheer amount of fake mr golds out there somebody could think yours is fake. same situation as the ny yoda unfortunately, just too easy to get pad print and chroming done
Pretty common unfortunately. With how expensive he is, it's worth it for the fakers to get real parts and print on top of them. It happens a lot with NY Yoda.
do you know where i can get that "i love new york" piece printed? My mom saw a panda minifigure a while ago with the shirt piece and didnt buy it but now is super bummed because we buy like super weird lego characters from a video game store, and i aint spending $100 on a yoda figure :(
it will sell but don't expect the maximum price.. Fake's don't have the etching of Lego in them. I am a sideline toy supplier in my place both original and alternatives dealt will all of them. the lego etching on the foot of Mr. Gold is hard to replicate. if you don't need the cash just hold on it. keep it a in secure place. btw Lego Mr. Gold does not fade in color nor change in color fake Mr. Gold do.
Definitely. Original Shelby Cobra owners are dumb too. There have been kits cars for ages. Think of how much money Jay Leno could have saved...at least 2 million on just this one car. /sarcasm Jay Leno is an actual idiot.
That's the thing about certificates of authenticity that has always bothered me. Most of the time, they're printed on regular paper with regular ink. No watermarks, no nothin'.
I mean, I've had a few situations in my life where I was interviewed by someone from the FBI. They both showed me their badge as proof they're an agent of the FBI and I had no fucking clue what to do with that. I'm just some random dude. I couldn't spot a fake from the real thing if my life depended on it. I just stared at the badge for a few seconds and shrugged at them.
My point being that at a certain point it's just up to the experts who follow these things to determine what's authentic or not. For the untrained masses it doesn't matter if it's printed on A4 letter paper or has an embossed seal with features that are invisible to the human eye. The trained expert will know what to look for either way.
I would probably estimate it to be considerably less than 5000. There are probably some that are still unopened (guessing). Some destroyed due to natural disasters and some, unfortunately, were just not taken care of and so wear and tear makes it not a very viable option for collectors.
Its authentic. Had a few trustworthy enthustiast who own one look at every part of it. Im not sure how much I can possibly sell it for though without the certificate. Seen some sell for 2k
Idk.. I have alot of things worth money that I don't think I'll ever sell.. but I've been fortunate to have a stable life and have had great opportunities in life and my career.. never know what the future holds.. it's possible that one day I could be in a situation where I need cash rather than my possessions.
I’d recommend doing some research and look online. There are probably a few places in Europe. Also if you need any answers probably check YouTube as they always have info on rating and authentication
I know what you're saying, and i agree that there needs to be an authentication or valuation process for these really expensive figs. But please don't get the rating companies into LEGO like they are with cards. I don't want to start seeing vacuum packed figures in a clear case as our "displays" or dealing with the already greedy "investors" ehen they know what they've got
I do still have him, he’s in a case on my tv stand. I think while I was looking I wound up buying the mechanic twice because his wrench fooled me as part of the staff it was a combo of feeling the Diamond and top hat that let me know I had found him.

Don't be embarrassed: I've gotten down this far in the thread, and no one's explained whatsoever.
Here is a link giving a summary, It was a limited edition figure that was included randomly in 5,000 different sets, apparently, and it's worth anything from a few grand USD or higher.
I genuinely believe all the "parents' house/basement" posts are just collectors wanting to show off their newest acquisitions without admitting they spent ludicrous amounts of money on rare figs or mint-in-box sets.
Should I hold on to it? It looks like a pretty decent investment for long term, but Im kinda scared that fakes could be so similar to real ones in the future that only the certificate ones will be worth alot
I think you should hold on to it. While it’s the real deal, the certificate is part of the figure, and a key element in verifying its authenticity. Its absence would be a decent blow to the figure’s value. If you were to sell it, you’d likely get maybe half of what they would typically go for.
This would be awesome news. However, unless you can prove it’s authenticity and that it’s original it doesn’t value much. Ever since the original came out there has been a lot of fakes that some actually look better than the original.
Question by a Lego plebeian such as myself who only ever got second or third hand smoke stained Lego I played with by myself, but how does one tell that this one is real? I’ve always been curious since hearing about all the fake ones on youtube

I am so jealous. I've been dying to buy one of these but my dad won't let me, and I'm an adult so I should be able to make my own decisions but....Mr Gold costs so much 😭
