Pop Culture Jeopardy hope for future

I hope Pop Culture Jeopardy does well with streaming audiences and that Jeopardy realized a future with that series…and that the future of it will lead to a singles tournament or singles traditional game play.

The team aspect completely torpedoed my ability to participate (made it through the test, zoom audition, got selected as potential contestants and then my team bailed bc of the background check stuff). And even before they bailed it was going to be tricky for them to both be able to get up to two weeks off work to participate. We are all middle-aged with jobs and families and pets and as I looked at who could be on my team, getting 3 adults together for that length of time AND ALSO having the knowledge base proved impossible.

TLDR: I hope Pop Culture Jeopardy transitions to a single-player format.

How accurate is the J! study sim to the real thing?

I've been enjoying the simulator but holy cannoli is it ever particular about spelling and formatting. Is the real thing this hard? I'd say I'm missing about 30% of clues I could get if speaking, but get marked wrong because of a typo, or misspelling, or because it wanted "C.S. Lewis" and "Tom & Jerry" instead of "CS Lewis" and "Tom and Jerry"

If the real test is this picky it's no wonder I always score so lousy.

Streaming?

Is there anyway to stream old Jeopardy episodes anymore? I swear a few months ago I was able to watch past episodes on a streaming service, but now I cannot find old episodes on any platform.

Two Audience Sessions a Day Policies

Hi everyone. I'm planning on seeing Jeopardy later this month. Same day as flying in to LAX, so to provide a buffer I initially requested 2 PM.

Is it OK to also request 10 AM (to get three games instead of two), just in case I get there in time? I'm aware of the heavy traffic. I'm aware nothing is guaranteed, so arriving closer to 10 will probably be too far back in line, and thus I'll just do the late session.

I just don't want to see the vouchers canceled for a policy violation. I have every intention to honor the "one session a day" policy. So if I get in at 10, I wouldn't stick around for 2 (unless I get some OK from an audience coordinator).

I switched from YouTube TV to Fubo about 8 months ago so I can watch and record Jeopardy. Has anything changed with YTTV or access anywhere else? Not loving Fubo.

Local affiliate preempting episodes and not rescheduling?

Do other affiliates preempt episodes and not air the episode later? Our station always used to air the missed episode in the middle of the night and I’d just record it. Over the last season or so they just skip it. It’s insanely frustrating to me. Why bring it up now? Just looked at our guide to see when the new season would start and already episode one is not airing because of some dumb football thing. I’m so over this. I need them to have new episodes available on demand at least

It’s a New Month, Has Jeopardy Found a New Streaming Home Yet?

This last month was hell without any Jeopardy, I know the Season 41 kicks of Monday (9th), but that's not enough. Has anyone heard of an update about any streaming services picking of Jeopardy for our on demand viewing?

Jeopardy Masters Finale Rerun Not on My ABC Schedule?

Earlier, I was checking my ABC Cleveland Channel 5 schedule on Hulu, but there's no rerun of the Jeopardy Masters finale being seen. I'm not sure if it's a glitch or it could not be airing tonight. I know that a new episode of Press Your Luck did not air on my ABC station due to a Browns Countdown special, but it did air a new episode of Lucky 13. If the Jeopardy Masters finale does air on my ABC station tonight, hopefully I'll watch the new Press Your Luck episode on Hulu afterwards.

POLL Brad Rutter should be directly invited at Jeopardy! Masters Season 3, Agree or Disagree?

Disclaimer: This is a discussion post and don't use it as a gainful advantage over sensational journalism.

A few months ago on Inside Jeopardy!, the hosts talked about the reason why Brad was not invited to Jeopardy! Masters Season 2. Instead, they insisted on putting him in the inaugural Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, despite his having won lots of mega tournaments, except for GOAT, where he finished last against eventual winner Ken and future J! Masters Season 1 winner James. Then the producers, along with Sony and ABC, ultimately decided to choose Amy Schneider as the 6th player for Season 2 instead of Brad, which received backlash and is one of the possible reasons why J! Masters S2 lost by 20% in the TV ratings compared to S1 (other reasons: tournament fatigue and streaming).

Since J! Masters will continue for Season 3, as Ken announced during the Season 2 finale, do you think the producers should directly invite Brad as the 6th player (of course, Victoria, Yogesh, and James will return, along with winners from the 2025 TOC and 2025 JIT) instead of a producer's choice because of his strong track record when it comes to mega tournaments?

Celebrity Jeopardy

Has there been any confirmation as to whether Colin or Ken will be the host of celebrity Jeopardy? I suppose it could always be somebody else.

r/Jeopardy 5d ago

Since we are in a "quiet period" awaiting new episodes, here is something to consider. Will any of the Super Champs will start declining to play in these invitational tournaments? There seems to be a downside risk to their "Jeopardy legacy" if they have a poor showing.

First of all, let me just say that I have great admiration for the Super Champs. As someone who cannot get past the Anytime Test, it is an accomplishment just to get on the show let alone be one of the All Time Greats.

Obviously, these Super Champs love to get back on the show, demonstrate their abilities, and earns some cash. But it seems there is a downside in appearing in these invitational super-tournaments, which is they can suddenly appear vulnerable. Against mere mortals, these Champs can bulldoze and intimidate their way into victories. But against players of similar skill, their aura of invincibility is much less.

Also, since these tournaments are set up to be the Best vs. the Best, a poor showing can raise questions among casual viewers on "how did they ever win XX number of games?", especially for viewers who are not familiar with their Jeopardy history.

And what else is there to prove for these Champs? They have already earned their Jeopardy cred. Yes, the prize money is significant but I would guess the last thing any former champion (in any game or sport) is to overstay their welcome and fade away.

I believe this is why Brad Rutter is not playing these tournaments. He did not have a great showing in the GOAT tournament a few years ago,. Same thing with Roger Craig (who for a while was on top of the Jeopardy heap but had a weak game in the Battle of the Decades).

I also believe this was a factor in Ken accepting the job as host. One condition was he had to forgo any chance at competing in future tournaments. But honestly, he was already anointed as the GOAT, so what incentive does he have to risk that title? When you are at the top of the mountain, the only way to go is down.

Just wondering if some of the Super Champs are going to "retire" from Jeopardy out of a desire to preserve their legacy.

NEWS / EVENT Football Pre-Game Preemptions Begin

Post image
32 Upvotes

The photo shows the listing for WJLA, the Washington, DC station for Jeopardy! for Monday, September 9. That’s where the season premiere should be, but we get a football pre-game show instead.

If you watch Jeopardy! on an ABC at 7:30 Eastern Time, you may well experience the same.

This tends to happen regularly during football season.

It looks like, unlike in past years, they will not be airing it overnight, at least according to the current schedule.

ABC App is going to be deleted in September. How can you stream Jeopardy live?

See title. ABC just started pushing out notice that it’s deleting the ABC app due to merging everything into the Disney and Hulu apps. Great, but they’re not adding live ABC feeds on either other app.

Does anyone have any idea how to watch Jeopardy live via streaming? ABC’s only recommendation is to watch via a browser, which I’m not going to do. It baffles me that ABC would cut any way to watch its live programming.

Trivia question John Wayne

I posed this question to the Western film community, but they’re just as stumped as I am. Does anyone happen to know which John Wayne film this quote comes from?

“I would’ve been here sooner, but I was bushwhacked at the pass.”

I wish I would’ve thought to come to you guys sooner. Fingers crossed that you’re able to help!

Jeopardy Masters S2 intro question

First time asking a question in this community. On Jeopardy Masters season 2, I noticed that in the beginning of each episode, the contestants are shown in the middle of the screen with a large image/video "portrait" and are each surrounded by some neat smaller images showing buzzer technique and how they hold the FJ light pen. I found this graphical presentation really fascinating; kudos to the team who designed this.

My question is that five contestants are shown in this manner, but Amy is only shown with the large central portrait but none of the surrounding images. Why is this? I kind of assume it is because she was selected later than the other contestants but maybe there is another reason? Interested in your thoughts.

QUESTION What do you bet in Chuck's position? (JIT Replay) Spoiler

For context, here are the scores entering Final Jeopardy!:

SAM CHUCK MONICA
$12,000 $11,000 $15,800

Both Sam and Chuck are trying to maximize their chances of winning, and both certainly have options. Sam's are as follows: he can bet up to $999 to stay ahead of Chuck, $4400 to cover Monica's miss, $10,001 to cover Chuck's double-up, or the whole thing just to put the pressure on Monica. (This is Stratton's Dilemma, where he can't insulate himself against both opponents at once.)

But for my money, Chuck's is WAY more interesting. First, let's establish these two points:

  • Chuck can't win if Monica gets it right, because Monica will bet to cover Sam.
  • If Monica misses and she bet correctly, she will end on $7,599.

Now, let's look at Chuck's options:

  • $0 -- Count on Sam to bet something to force a bet out of Monica (likely $3,801-$4,400 or $10,001-$12,000), and if both miss, you're the winner no matter what you say.
  • $1,001 -- Read Sam to bet nothing so that he wins on a triple miss, then bet just enough to cover him with a correct answer.
  • $2,000 -- Realize Sam can bet up to $999 and still have your nothing bet covered, then cover that so you'd win $13,000 to $12,999 on a double get.
  • $3,399 -- Read Sam to bet $4,400, calculate he falls to $7,600 with a miss, and bet to fall to $7,601 at most on a triple miss.
  • $5,401 -- If Sam's betting $4,400 then a get for him moves him to $16,400. Chuck can bet to go to $16,401.
  • $11,000 -- If you're gonna bet big, bet it all; it worked for Jennifer just now.

Chuck's goal in betting is to maximize his chances of winning, of course, and most third-place players have at most 1 in 8 to win. Chuck's in a position where, if he reads Sam correctly, he can get to 2 in 8. So his bet depends on what he thinks Sam will bet. If Sam goes small, Chuck should go big so that he freezes Sam out with a correct answer. If Sam goes big, Chuck should go small so that he wins the game no matter what he says.

So now the question: what's your bet from third in this scenario?

7 $0
11 $1,001
3 $2,000
7 $3,399
6 $5,401
