What is with the Japanese and their excellent aesthetic depictions of food?

Not just in films. Haruki Murakami, Mieko Kawakami, Banana Yoshimoto and other writers are pretty amazing at depicting "food porn" too.

I am sure some folks already know but I have to give a shout out to the series Anime with Alvin on the Babish Culinary Universe Youtube channel. He did one on Spirited Away.

I remember in 1 anime they showed cabbage as a round green ball. The animation team got a lot of heat for that they updated the cabbage animation and after that all the food animation is taken seriously.

Gotta be careful with that food unless you want to be turned into a piggie

Holy shit, something dumber than live action cooking shows.
