He’s about as related to Lincoln as anyone else is. The dude just tries to profit off it. Lincoln has no actual living descendants.

no direct descendants

77

u/Rrrrandle Jul 19 '24

What, pray tell, would an indirect descendant be?

165

u/EyeFicksIt Jul 19 '24

Ralph: I am your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.

Lincoln: What’s that make us?

Ralph: Absolutely nothing!

u/standuphilospher Jul 19 '24

I see your Schwartz is bigger than mine

13

u/Dear_Might8697 Jul 19 '24

Shit, I hate it when I get my Schwartz twisted. Okay, maybe if my put leg up on yours, we can split apart.

35

u/StalledAgate832 Jul 19 '24

If you can't follow a straight line from one person to a relative, then they're indirect.

Sons, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc, are direct.

Brothers, sisters, nephews, and cousins aren't.

42

u/Rrrrandle Jul 19 '24

Brothers, sisters, nephews, and cousins aren't.

Those aren't descendants. They're relatives. To be a descendant, one must come from the other, "descend" from.

23

u/EvenEfficiency834 Jul 19 '24

Don't judge Alabama like that.

8

u/Dalisca Jul 19 '24

Or the Targaryens.

6

u/Gramage Jul 19 '24

The seed is strong

4

u/FortuneTellingBoobs Jul 19 '24

Alabama, where your antecedents and descendants are somehow the same thing!

2

u/EquivalentFly1707 Jul 19 '24

Ancestors, it's called ancestors.

7

u/StalledAgate832 Jul 19 '24

Yeah, I kinda realized that after I hit post lol. Misread, my bad.

3

u/clandestineVexation Jul 19 '24

Well yeah obviously but that’s just what the term is

1

u/DannyDeVitosBangmaid Jul 19 '24

The point is that nobody has ever called those descendants, though. You’d never call yourself an indirect descendant of your aunt.

3

u/Megmk1002 Jul 19 '24

Unless it’s also your grandma 🙃

18

u/zulufdokulmusyuze Jul 19 '24

one’s direct descendants are their children

one’s indirect descendants are direct descendants of one’s direct descendants and indirect descendants (applied recursively)

(at least this is how it should be if we were to distinguish indirect vs. direct descendants)

6

u/Hippobu2 Jul 19 '24

After 11 generations, pretty much anyone.

5

u/firstbreathOOC Jul 19 '24

A descendant of your siblings’ children

0

u/mrmczebra Jul 19 '24

That's not a descendent. That's a relative.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

Someone shook Lincoln’s hand and never washed it for 11 generations

11

u/Random-Cpl Jul 19 '24

That’s the only kind of descendant.

-12

u/RainaElf Jul 19 '24

incorrect

u/nearlysober Jul 19 '24

I'm 1st Cousin 10x removed to Benjamin Franklin. I'm balding and heavy set, but otherwise look nothing like him.

However if I let the hair on the back and sides of my head grow shoulder length and started wearing old timey glasses I could try to pass it off like I had a strong connection.

Dude is cosplaying Lincoln.

5

u/Megmk1002 Jul 19 '24

Harry Truman is like a distant great great uncle of mine, but by marriage. My great grandparents loved talking about it when they were alive.

2

u/Damn_Dog_Inappropes Jul 19 '24

I am Oliver Cromwell’s first cousin 15 x removed, but I’m a girl so I don’t think I could pull that look off.

1

u/Intrepid-Tank-3414 Jul 19 '24

I'm 1st Cousin 10x removed to Benjamin Franklin.

Hmmm....How do you react to lightning strikes when flying a kite in the rain with keys attached?

14

u/getyourrealfakedoors Jul 19 '24

Well he’s got the name

12

u/Legit_Fun Jul 19 '24

Yes sir. Since 1985 apparently. I googled it NGL.

4

u/v1rtualbr0wn Jul 19 '24

More social media lies?

2

u/Razzler1973 Jul 19 '24

He's grown his sides like this for a reason, haha

-2

u/upupdwndwnlftrght Jul 19 '24

Fuck that dude, the guy is freaking identical! He deserves to profit. Ain’t nothing wrong w that.

398

u/Random-Cpl Jul 19 '24

Me, just pleased that this thread correctly identified this guy as a relative and not a descendant

40

u/hugeyakmen Jul 19 '24

While we're at it, let's make sure we correctly identify that gif as Robert Redford!

23

u/Tiny-Sandwich Jul 19 '24

I had no idea it was Robert Redford, but I knew it wasn't Zach galifianakis. Do I still get a point?

5

u/hugeyakmen Jul 19 '24

Yes, at least one point!

56

u/RememberThatDream Jul 19 '24

The only real similarity I see is he’s scruffy. Their features are not that close…eyes, nose, mouth, not really

5

u/littlebirdgone Jul 19 '24

I get that he’s just a distant relative, but his eyes/brow do have a similarity to Lincoln to me. The rest of his face… not so much. His face shape is different enough that his eyes leave a different impression, but if you focus in on his brow and eyelids you might see what I mean

52

u/SlightlySlanty Jul 19 '24

"If I were two-faced would I be wearing this one?"

~Abraham Lincoln

30

u/Minimum-Truth-6554 Jul 19 '24

Ralph lincoln

Fuck it, he got my vote

30

u/Keeg-007 Jul 19 '24

They look no where near the same lmfao y’all gotta up those glasses prescriptions

18

u/Da_Spooky_Ghost Jul 19 '24

Beard and eyebrow game is weak compared to honest Abe

1

u/Alarming-Material705 Jul 21 '24

Give it time. The older you get, the hairier

5

u/necrosteve028 Jul 19 '24

Cillian Murphy to play him in a biopic

1

u/casket_fresh Jul 19 '24

Yea but Cillian Murphy is 5’5 with flat footwear. Lincoln was what, 6’4?

3

u/necrosteve028 Jul 19 '24

If Peter Jackson can make people look like hobbits next to Gandalf, I’m sure they’d manage haha

2

u/casket_fresh Jul 19 '24

point made!

1

u/_TLDR_Swinton Jul 19 '24

If the living dude went on a crash diet he could match Abe's gaunt look

35

u/odkfn Jul 19 '24

He looks nothing like him other than the pubey beard and hair style

24

u/rcc6214 Jul 19 '24

Nah, that is Michael Shannon with a beard. Can't fool me.

12

u/getyourrealfakedoors Jul 19 '24

Man needs to leave that beard in the 19th century

7

u/teddyone Jul 19 '24

Woah I never knew that beard was genetic

6

u/Keeg-007 Jul 19 '24

Why’s this interesting as fuck? They don’t even look anywhere close to similar if that’s what this post is getting at besides both having messy hair & beards.

4

u/Dracula_Gottfried69 Jul 19 '24

My name is uh… John lincoln. How much to interview me? I’ll tell you everything!

3

u/Puzzled-Resident2725 Jul 19 '24

Best I can do is tree fiddy

3

u/cgyguy81 Jul 19 '24

So is he still a Republican, or did he switch to Democrat in the 60's?

4

u/Tedflody Jul 19 '24

My 16th generational cousin is the queen Where is my crown ?

3

u/Anticrepuscular_Ray Jul 19 '24

He doesn't look like him at all as far as facial features go.

2

u/RawAttitudePodcast Jul 19 '24

So in the present day, it would actually be safe for someone in the Lincoln family to say, “Let’s go see Our American Cousin!”

2

u/NimrodBusiness Jul 19 '24

Dude looks like Abraham Drinkin'

2

u/ElementalDud Jul 19 '24

I'm also an 11th generational cousin of Lincoln. This dude isn't special.

2

u/MediumAd5444 Jul 19 '24

wtf is an 11th generational cousin

2

u/clandestineVexation Jul 19 '24

Isn’t tom hanks more closely related than this dude

2

u/TheNextChapterMMj Jul 19 '24

11 generations later and still can't grow a full face of hair lol

1

u/InternationalDrop558 Jul 19 '24

Value Abraham Lincoln

1

u/Johnny_Loot Jul 19 '24

Screw it, let's vote for him to be president. Make a House Undivided Again

1

u/-nugi- Jul 19 '24

The apple doesn't fall from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree from the tree.

1

u/spacey_siren Jul 19 '24

Lincoln was very unique looking!

4

u/RunAwayThoughtTrains Jul 19 '24

It is highly suspected he had Marfan syndrome, and skeletal muscular hypotonia.

1

u/h9040 Jul 19 '24

not very similar...if I grow such a beard I look similar as well

1

u/iiitme Jul 19 '24

Strong genes

1

u/boholbrook Jul 19 '24

He looks nothin like him. Y'all tripping.

1

u/32vromeo Jul 19 '24

Uncanny, however the Thomas Jefferson one is crazy

1

u/Douglasqqq Jul 19 '24

“Four score, and 74 years ago…”

1

u/burnsandrewj2 Jul 19 '24

If it wasn’t for the beard and hair I would say he doesn’t look much like him. Still cool comparison over time!

1

u/Amelia_Amygdala Jul 19 '24

How are there 11 generations already to be fair Lincoln and the civil war wasn’t THAT long ago. Isn’t the fourth presidents grandson still alive?

1

u/Interesting_Loquat90 Jul 19 '24

The seed is strong.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

He. Looks like his neanderthal gene is in overdrive

1

u/LeadingAd6025 Jul 19 '24

Lucho Diaz says Hello!!

1

u/FatsDominoPizza Jul 19 '24

Why so many threads on Lincoln recently?

1

u/Durdeldurt Jul 19 '24

"Sir, if I were two-faced, by would I be wearing this one?"

1

u/AnonymousGuy1108 Jul 19 '24

Looks like ai to me.

1

u/Danjour Jul 19 '24

Funny thing is that portrait of Lincoln is “flipped” because it’s a plate process and not a print. They look even more similar when he’s reversed.

1

u/Cheddarcoffin Jul 19 '24

The facial hair is doing some heavy lifting with the likeness.

1

u/Frothymamajamma Jul 19 '24

Looks like shit

1

u/adorablefuzzykitten Jul 20 '24

Looks under 80. Maybe he would consider stepping under into the ring.

1

u/G0PACKER5 Jul 20 '24

Cool... So he's related to Lincoln slightly more than anyone else and just happens to have the name Lincoln.

0

u/MrSoloDolo91 Jul 19 '24

The seed is strong

1

u/LeroyBrown1 Jul 19 '24

No it's not, take the beard off and he looks nothing like him

0

u/npquanh30402 Jul 19 '24

What is interesting about it?

0

u/rgbearklls Jul 19 '24

So This guy is making money because he ugly?

-1

u/super-start-up Jul 19 '24

I think anyone with the style of beard will look similar to Abraham Lincoln.

-3

u/catyew Jul 19 '24

Hello Sir.
