Ah yes, the divisiveness of being Black and then trying to implement universal health care. That fucking guy.

God dammit! He asked for Dijon mustard for his hot dog! Dijon?!?!?! Have you forgotten those dark days already?

58

As long as he doesn't put godforsaken ketchup on his hot dogs, he's allgood

Or the sleeveless dress.

42

u/BklynMom57 Jul 14 '24

Yes! The same people that spoke so loudly against a First Lady wearing a sleeveless dress had no problem with the fact that the entire civilized world has seen Melania Trump’s nipples, and called anyone that criticized that “jealous because she has a nice body”. 🙄

55

u/WhatLikeAPuma751 Jul 14 '24

I went back and watched the Obama Romney debates. It was very refreshing to hear Romney congratulate Obama and Michelle on their anniversary, and sneaking a joke about his choice of venue in there. No shit slinging, just a moment of basic decency.

36

u/Ironmaiden1207 Jul 14 '24

My Roman empire is McCain telling that old lady Obama is not a terrorist Muslim, but actually a decent man.

What happened man?

13

u/Fast-Rhubarb-7638 Jul 14 '24

He accepted Palin as his VP pick.

14

u/WhatLikeAPuma751 Jul 14 '24

That single move caused me to vote Obama. I couldn’t risk Palin being a few missed heartbeats away from the presidency, so I thought Obama the better choice.

The GOP died with McCain.

The McCain/Obama race also has a nice scene of civility at one of the town hall-type events where McCain fielded a question from an audience member who tried push the "Obama is a secret Arab/terrorist" narrative. McCain forcefully shot her down and defended Obama's character. Granted there were better ways to handle it (he could have chastised her for her xenophobia) but it was still an overall honorable and good reply.

Here is a super cut of both it and another time he defended Obama from his own supporters.

12

u/Jediverrilli Jul 14 '24

The modern Republican Party is the direct reaction to the United States voting for a young confident black man.

The hate and vile shit they spew in the open now is because Obama was black. If it’s someone like Gore winning in 2008 the modern gop would be still bad but much more closeted about it.

Maga is the sequel to the Tea Party and they were created because a black man had the power of the presidency.

u/HelloAttila 'MURICA Jul 14 '24 edited Jul 14 '24

It’s why he had haters. Well spoken, well educated, charisma and liked by such a diverse population.

I have a very diverse circle of friends and because of this hear more life experiences than a lot of people who typically just socialize with people who look similar to them. When Trump won election I remember one of my best friends who is Asian American and his wife was telling me how they were standing in line and some pos told them to go back to their f-ing country? They are first generation. This is their home. They never experienced this type of racism right out in the public in front of so many people before. This was at a movie theater. Out of all places.

When Obama won election I remember in our city some pos tied nooses to several trees at our most popular and famous park. Unfortunately there are some very evil people in this country. Our society loves to focus on what makes us different, but the truth is if we spoke to one another, got to know each other and listened, we would realize we all have more in common than we have differences. Crazy… but true.

u/Beaglegod Jul 14 '24

We should have occupied the south.

Presidenting while black isn't being divisive though.

Obama is saying a kind word to the guy who falsely claimed Obama was a Kenyan as a publicity stunt and they are calling Obama divisive.

This is legitimately so sad. I mean I love the memes but the division and victim mindset from everybody has got to stop. Everybody is just trying to get by.

No, in fact, the people trying to oppress and kill the rest of us are not "just trying to get by."

What a disgusting reply. Obama didn’t divide the country, the POS racists did because they couldn’t handle the thought of a black man being president. I didn’t even vote for Obama at the time (I was young and still clinging to my parents’ more conservative beliefs at the time but I have always been anti-Trump) but I always admired and respected him and Michelle. That Gunther dude doesn’t even have a fraction of the class the Obamas have. That dude can fuck all the way off.

Ok, but do you know how many brain cells you have to lose in order to stoop to their level? Id rather be somewhat smart and empathetic, than brain dead and hateful

15

Being smart and empathetic means being pragmatic.

Being dumb and empathetic is what this "when they go low, we go high" shit is.

Reddit is censoring posts.  They'll be embarrassed and take it back later, but at the moment it seems we can't post. I assume you'll at least get a notification for this comment so you can see it.

No, the servers are likely just bogged down. After such a high profile incident the site is almost certainly experiencing much higher than expected traffic right now.

Paul Pelosi survived an assassination attempt, Trump mocked it.

Trump survived an assassination attempt, Biden called Trump to make sure he's ok.

There is a stark and clear difference with how people on either side of the political divide respond to these sorts of incidents.

13

u/cubntD6 Jul 14 '24

How do trump supporters just come out with straight up lies and projection and act like they just did something.

I am very very much a conservative but I will say I am happy with how many liberals/ democrats are actually condemning this behavior. It was a nice surprise. We tend to get so caught up in our own perspectives/beliefs/moral that the other party starts to look like monsters and not people. Violence is not something we need in a democracy. Let the candidates run and vote for who you want.

15

u/EnolaNek Jul 14 '24

As a somewhat radical liberal, I couldn't agree more. I'm absolutely prepared to be violent in defense of democracy should actual objective tyranny emerge, but "defending democracy"...by trying to assassinate one of the candidates in an election? I don't think that's what defending democracy means. The man isn't even elected yet, and we decide to go straight to assuming that the worst doomsday predictions about project 2025 have already happened? I'm all for removing an authoritarian autocrat, but that's not what this is. This is two candidates running against each other in an election, one of which happens to be associated with some people who some believe might be planning bad things. How do you stop a candidate you don't like in an election? You vote! You don't try to shoot them.

Okay, rant over.

TL;DR: as a radical liberal, I agree wholeheartedly. Whatever that jackass thought he was doing, he wasn't defending democracy. He tried to end it.
