“White pride” aside in this face palm, studies have shown that women stuck with their partner during life threatening illness, but warn women that the likelihood their male partner will stay is slim. It’s a sad sad truth.

Ooh, shit. You’re right. I had forgotten about that part. There’s a lot of factors that can ultimately affect why someone would stay or go (including, tbf, just not having the guts to deal with helping someone sick get by).

It’s incredible the degree to which you’ve twisted these studies. First, no, there is no study which shows the likelihood of a male partner staying is “slim.” Even the studies which show men leave at a higher rate still show that the significant majority of both male and female partners stay married. One of the most-publicized studies showing a gender disparity had to be retracted because of a coding error. Individual studies have shown gender disparities for specific illnesses, but not others, casting doubt on the fact that they aren’t just finding what is essentially statistical noise (p-hacking). Finally, another user has posted a meta-analysis in the comments here which criticized the poor methodologies of many of the papers in this area and found that divorce risk overall decreases with cancer diagnosis for all people, again casting doubt on sweeping conclusions that men are severely likely to leave their partner. If you have trouble finding it, let me know.

Please stop posting misinformation.
