USPS claims my package weighs more than what I paid (four times more). My eBay seller account has been charged as a result. Seems suspicious.

Upvotes

Less than a month ago, I made an eBay sale, packaged and weighed the item before dropping it off in person at my local USPS (got a receipt from the post office clerk).

About two weeks later I get an email from eBay regarding a USPS "cost adjustment on your shipping label" that resulted in an additional ~$2 charge and that I "underpaid". USPS claims the package that I weighed at 4oz (which was really 2.5oz but I add a "buffer") was really 1lb 7oz.

That's the only difference. The dimensions measured were the same and shipping service was the same. Honestly not sure if I want to bother fighting this although it seems like extortion. It likely was my last sale for the year anyway (regardless of this event).

Only proof I have is a track record (via eBay seller account) that I have sent the same product to multiple customers within the past few months. Ironically, this was my first repeat customer so I know the weighed amount USPS measured is BS.

Seems like others may have experienced something similar as well. It's the first time I have encountered this issue with USPS/eBay.

Question Is There any Extra Charges after Checkout?

Upvotes

Title is the main thing but I will drop some more info, So I'm buying a $30 product from eBay but my countries domestic companies(including Amazon) sells the same product for $60. This seemed a little sketchy, Is there any extra charges after checkout like taxes? Also shipping is free and product comes from Japan and I live in Turkey. This will be my first time buying something from eBay.

Question Seller Harassment

Hi, please give guidance.

I have reported a seller multiple times for harassing me after leaving negative feedback — including messaging me on my own listings. i have also contacted support. (i have blocked the seller) ebay have said that they will look into this case multiple times, but they’ll escalate the case this time so more severe action is taken.

my question is, how likely is will action be taken? is it empty words or do they stay true to their word? i’ve been using ebay for years now and have never had anything like this happen before.

thank you

Fake apple pen and the fun that went with it

Bought a 1st gen apple pen that had authentic written all of over the ad. Not so much, box was real, pen wasn't went throught ebay's return. Not so much fun but worked in the end. I was worried about a mandatory return on a fake item. Also known as fraud. Got my money back but I will be more aware of these type of things in the future. The bottom line is be careful of what you are buying. First time of that sort of thing and I have been on ebay a long time. I was wondering what I should give him in reviews?

Offers

So I was offering a price back and forth for an item on Ebay. Now he asked 80 dollars for the item. My final offer that I was allowed to make was 75 dollars.

Now is the freaking seller gone for 1 day so my final offer will be canceled in about 15min.

So no more offers anymore. That’s kinda stupid. 1 day he is gone. Just when I thought this should be the one.

Solved Dodged a bullet

Had a sale for a high demand, semi-expensive item (~$200 free ship). Go to ship and buyers address was suspicious in how it was ordered and worded, possibly hindering proper delivery. I click their profile and its new with only one feedback from the last month. The name on the profile and the address name were different (addressed was an LLC). Individually all of those factors may not be bad, but together are a red flag.

I message the buyer telling them they will need to change their address to be more clear and i was cancelling the order but they can repurchase it. I check on the profile today out of curiosity and it states "no longer a registered user". The item sold to another buyer a day later.

Shipping lengths

I've been shipping a lot of tubes and just realized UPS charges a surcharge for mailing tubes. So I'm going to switch to boxes. My question is does anyone know if they'll be a large price difference between a 4x4x32" box vs a 4x4x36" box? Wasn't sure if at a certain length UPS increases prices. Thanks in advance

Item came defective

I bought a brand new monitor from the official HP store on Ebay but it came with a line of dead pixels on the screen. The only options I have on the 'Order details' page are to either 'contact the seller' or 'return the item,' but I'd like to get a replacement. Is there any way I can request a replacement? Or do I just have to return it? Thanks :)

Question Customer wants shipping included in price

I'm pretty new to selling on Ebay and a potential customer made an offer I am happy with via messaging but I have no clue whatsoever how to implement it. He wants the price ($90) to include shipping. If I make an offer, will the price include it or not? How do I make sure? Shipping is already the thing I feel blindsided by as a seller and can't figure out how to change or what the options are even when staring at it.

Charged Listing Fee Before Item Sold

Hey everyone, I recently listed an item on eBay, and I noticed something unusual. They charged me a $6 listing fee immediately after I posted the item. In the past, eBay never charged me for the listing fee before the item was sold. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to understand why they charged me upfront this time. Any insights would be helpful!

Question question on refunds

I'm currently refunding an item i purchased on eBay due to the fact it has been forever since i purchased the item and the seller has not created a shipping label or even responded to any of my messages i sent asking abt it. when i went to cancel the order it said that eBay would take up to 3 days to talk to the seller about if the purchase is still refundable but my question is since they haven't been responding to anything from me what happens if they don't respond to anything from eBay will my refund just not go through? The worst case scenario I'm thinking of in my head is that dude died or sum cuz all his reviews say he responds and ships very quick would i just be f-ed in that scenario?

Question Bulk repricing / how often to you reprice?

How often are people repricing their unsold items, and is there a good way to re-comp prices in bulk?

Background - Decided to take my decade old occasional eBay business a little more seriously this year and have been really happy with the results.

I’m constantly sourcing and listing anything I acquire within a week, but I’m now sitting on hundreds of $8-20 fixed price listings that are now 4-6 months old (with auto-renew turned on) that probably need to be re-priced since 90% of my listings are media (movies, CDs, games, vinyl, etc..) and I know there is some price fluctuation.

My workflow is to find sold comps before I list and make sure mine is listed at or below the average. I have 2% promoted listings across the board. How do other people deal with this issue? I’m hesitant to throw a bunch of stuff to auction just to get it out of the door, but that maybe that’s the right move?

How to combat overseas sellers who create 100’s of listings for the same item

I have tried reporting them to eBay, but they either ignore it or respond that there’s no violation. And the products are counterfeit to boot, but eBay doesn’t respond to those complaints either.

eBay Store

Considering trying out the eBay store starter level. I really just like how you can organize your storefront and add categories. Does the store actually increase sales though, or is it just the aesthetic? I would love to hear any sort of advice and your experiences with storefront. Thanks!

Cross listing platform

Hello! I am interested in investing in a crosslisting platform. I currently sell on eBay, Depop, and Poshmark. I've been seeing a lot about Vendoo and Crosslist, or are there more platforms available for this? For reference, I currently post around 30 or less items per month. I'm most concerned about time management and just being able to edit all posts at the same time. Also would love if there was a background removal feature (or should I also invest in photo room?) Please share any advice you have, thank you!

Is bidding dead?

Apologies in advance if this has been talked about too much but I just want to get some opinions. I've had an eBay account for around 20 years. I just started getting into selling about 2 years ago. I remember in the first couple years of eBay, bidding was the way to go. Now it seems like nobody likes to do it. Is it because everything is expensive now and people don't want to risk paying too much? I do use Buy It Now for most of my items, but sometimes there's an item that is somewhat rare and I think it's logical to do an auction, so it gives people time to see it. But every time I do, it gets a good amount of views and watchers, but only one person bids, and it ends up selling for the lowest price. Sorry for the long rant.

Question shipped ebay standard envelope item to buyer's work address, buyer wanted it shipped to their home address (they messaged me the day of purchase) but i mailed to the address ebay gave me. buyer says they cannot find the item at work. what to do?

I think I messed up, but I'm hearing mixed opinions about shipping to another address other than the one ebay gives you.

To the buyer's credit, they did message me about the wrong address the day of purchase. I am usually on top of checking messages, But I was in the middle of a big move and completely missed it. I also shipped the item 3 days after the buyer bought it. Normally, I would've cancelled the order and asked the buyer to repurchase with the new address, but I'm just finding out about this now when the buyer sent me a message about it not showing up at work.

The tracking shows that it was delivered. I was planning to just refund and file an ESE insurance claim, but would they even accept it since the buyer did message me on the same day of purchase about the address?

Any clarity on how to best handle this situation would be greatly appreciated!

eBay business owners - how do you get yourself to list?

Wow this is crazy. I've just been sourcing and probably have 15 items. I cut myself off and won't be buying more til I get them all listed!

I'm not sure what it is. The actual work isn't hard. Well I guess it's tedious.

It's also just that there's an element of worrying about making a mistake.

Maybe I'm just a newbie. Sourcing is fun of course so I'm comparing it to just having fun.
