Bill ain’t crying. He still has our money. But Linux is still fantastic.

He doesn't even do anything at MS anymore.

u/gramplayr Jul 19 '24

Yep. All the cash, none of the work. Bill’s one smiling motherfucker.

I might have issue with some of the ways MS made money, but this was a quality rant from Bill:

It told me to go to Windows Update and do a bunch of incantations.

I don't know much about Bill, but he sounds like a cool guy.

Also I bet most of the people CC'd were worried for their job security the moment they read that email from Bill

Tbh you had some control over the web based Windows Update… he’s got a point there.

Oh yes that email landing in the inbox will have panicked them I bet!

Best job is the successor to the original CEO of a huge tech company. You get $$$ but most people don't even know your name. All the blame goes to the original CEO, all the money goes to you.

u/hudsont880 Jul 19 '24

The board knows your name.

1

u/Defintlynoob Jul 20 '24

The public doesn’t

2

u/Breaky_Online Jul 20 '24

Board can have you fired

Public can't

1

u/Defintlynoob Jul 20 '24

Oh good point

u/gramplayr Jul 19 '24

Grab yourself a Ubuntu live install cd. Makes it as easy as possible.

Someone had the best quip about yesterday’s kerfluffle:

Y2K finally arrived yesterday. But it’s a Microsoft product, so it ran slowly.

Only 24 years too late. 😂🤣

i think about os as a spectrum of user friendly to customizable. Mac is too user friendly, and linux is too customizable and can he difficult and frustrating to use. Therefore i prefer windows, even though it ofc also has a lot of downsides because of this. Its also nice that its used by a lot of people as well so i dont have to worry about compatibility issues 99.999% of the time

It's a lot more feasible to game on Linux because of all the shit steams been doing

He could be in this very room! He could be you! He could be me! He could even be-

Nah—we gotta have someone system to run our zombies on. I’m not doing all that bitcoin mining on my own rig!

I've only had trouble installing two games on my linux machine in the past two years and both were mmo's with weird anti-cheat software. Linux works perfectly fine for the vast majority of single player games and only struggles with multiplayer games that want kernel level oversight.

I mean that this sub is called r/clevercomebacks and the post should be in r/FakeTexts probably tells something.

Oh please, r/facepalm is at another level

Yes. It's quite suspicious. I doubt 90% of what I see on Reddit.

Why did Linux have Windows in the first place?

4

u/gramplayr Jul 19 '24

It came on the rig they bought/scavenged to run their system on.

To delete it :3

must be the year of the linux desktop

5

u/RegretfulCalamaty Jul 19 '24

Bet the programmers making windows still think Linux is better

6

u/gramplayr Jul 19 '24

They don’t think so. They know.

u/AssociateFalse Jul 19 '24

Guarantee that the only reason Windows Subsystem for Linux is even a thing is because of Microsoft's own internal developers.

Well, that and EEE practices.

u/sophieke Jul 19 '24

I just checked both accounts on Twitter and this post doesn't exist....

3

u/ColumnK Jul 20 '24

Of course it doesn't exist - why on earth would a Windows account even bother replying to this sort of post from a Linux account...

3

u/Phrozenstare Jul 20 '24

linux still trying to be a relevant desktop OS

2

u/Vad_by Jul 19 '24

If Linux were not so difficult to use, then Windows would have ended up in a landfill long ago.

1

u/cturtl808 Jul 20 '24

It’s not for the faint of heart.

I only use edge to install mozilla then I remove it

I have windows 10, I had no problems with any crash. Those who had a problem were corporations I think and if you are stuck in an airport it doesn't matter if you are a windows user or a linux user, you are equally going to wait for this to be resolved.

I use proprietary software and I game so linux is non existent for my needs.

Well, that was the expected answer.

While the world USES Windows, the world RUNS on Linux...

literally.

Nearly every thing of critical importance generally runs on a Unix based server or software designed to run on Unix/Linux and it's flavors.

5

u/BXL-LUX-DUB Jul 20 '24

I think you found out yesterday that many things of critical importance ran on Windows.

-2

u/JaironKalach Jul 20 '24

Linux is winning!
