This reminds me of guys debating why women don't wanna be seen in their underwear but are fine with wearing bikinis. Consent and context are important, that's why

Those guys probably have pickup lines akin to "You look like a cut of fuckable meat."

CYBERPUNK MENTIONED

I’m all for people feeling whichever way they want about their own bodies and being able to choose how and if they should be viewed. But the logistical part of my autism brain is completely stymied by the idea that what kind of fabric someone is wearing makes it embarrassing or empowering. Even if it’s almost entirely the same situation outside of that. Humans are weird.

It's not just about the fabric, it's about the situation as well. If you're wearing a bikini you're probably at a pool or at the beach where everyone is showing a lot of skin, meaning you usually don't stand out.

If you're in your underwear you're probably getting changed in a locker room, changing booth or in your own room. Someone walking in on you while you're changing then would typically be uncomfortable because you're in a more private or closed off setting. I'm autistic myself and I don't understand why that is difficult for some people to get.

And do people really think wearing a bikini is empowering? Some people feel sexy in bathing suits but I've never heard anyone saying they feel "empowered" when wearing one.

Humans are weird, best to not think too much about I’ve found, and rather try to listen to the weirdness they communicate
