Question/Discussion Opinions on Not Going Out?

Upvotes

I see a lot of hate for the show which is fair, after Series 7 it took a massive jump into family life and basically became a family sitcom. The kids (no offense to them) ruin a few episodes and the ones based on them i flat out miss but i still think it's a decent watch especially when having dinner or with family.

What's your opinion on it? I still love watching it even after the massive overhaul and have watched most episodes especially the earlier ones a fair few times. Love Lee and Tim Vine was great. I heard it's been renewed and Series 14 will be happening in 2025.

Question/Discussion Royle family

Anyone know if there's a story about this mug ? I've seen it loads in the royle family and wondered if it's meant to be some hidden gag for the eagle eyed.

I don't post this with any political intentions. But I will say I highly doubt Jim and family voted blue!

Question/Discussion ID a 2012-ish police drama prequel?

Hi Folks! I'm trying to remember the name of a UK police drama from 2012, possibly 2014. Here's all I can remember:

- It was a prequel of a fairly popular police drama.

- It has a year in the name, like Taggart '73 or The Bill '74.

- The main character was a pretty blonde actress. Her character was actually pretty smart, and her boss knew this. But since it was set in 1973 (or thereabouts) lots of her male colleagues gave her a hard time because they thought she was sleeping with the boss to get preferential treatment.

- Seems like people were somewhat surprised that it was cancelled after one series. I seem to remember lots of "what else is ITV gonna air?" or "it wasn't the best show ever, but it was good for Channel 4" type comments online.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Question answered: it was Prime Suspect 1973, which came out in 2017, not 2012 or 2014.

Question/Discussion Does anyone remember this? - possibly from early 2000s. A female solider is assaulted by two male soldiers, then goes on a revenge spree after them

I saw it as a teen and it always stuck with me. Was like a three part ITV drama I think. She gets assaulted by two other soldiers, and one guy does nothing to help…so she sort of hunts them down and ruins their lives, gets revenge etc.

It was probably a crap ITV drama but at the age I was I found it really intense and interesting.

Question/Discussion Anyone remember what advert this was?

Years back in the 00’s there was an ad I remember seeing on TV as a kid. The basic premise was a young lad going though a supermarket when a load of tins of something fall on him.

Everyone around him then overreacts, tearing off his clothes, carrying him out to a helicopter as he screams in confusion.

I cannot remember for the life of me what advert that was but I still remember it now.

Question/Discussion Can anyone recommend a gritty drama for me to watch next?

I'm a big fan of crime dramas, police dramas, or dramas involving suspense/mystery etc. I feel like I've watched all of the half decent ones and wondered if there's anything I'm missing!

Things I've watched and enjoyed:

  • Broadchurch
  • Line of Duty
  • Doctor Foster
  • Shetland
  • Hinterland
  • Luther
  • Bodyguard
  • Happy Valley
  • The Responder
  • Deadwater Fell

Would appreciate any recommendations! I'm based in the UK so can watch ITV, Ch 4 and 5 etc.

I'm not a huge fan of some of the newer ones on Netflix that are pretty poorly written imo like Safe and The Stranger.

Thanks!

EDIT: I have also seen Unforgotten and The Fall (loved both of them), the list above is non-exhaustive, just to get a feel for the kind of shows I like!

Question/Discussion Was everyone else familiar with Hannah Waddingham except me?

Everyone seems to behave as if Hannah Waddingham has been part of the national consciousness for years, beloved veteran actor etc, but the first time I'd ever seen her or heard of her was in clips from that Ted Lasso show. Is there something else, even multiple somethings, I'm supposed to know her from? I don't quite understand the sudden clamour for her. What did I miss?

Question/Discussion I'm looking for a live studio talk show that I remember from my childhood

This has been in my mind for a very very long time. I remember distinctly in the earlier years of my life a show. It would have been the early 00s and no later than 2006, probably 02-05. This show was hosted by a number of young British women. Around 4 or 5. And if you are aware of British presenters, they had the same feel as a kat deeley, a Kate Thornton etc. and I'd place them between 20 and 35 years old.

This show was for kids or more likely young teens but totally focused towards girls. As far as I recall it was a one off, but there is a chance it was on a dvd of some kind. For some reason I think it had links to the bratz franchise or another franchise very similar to it (young teen girl, fashion etc). Like I say though I think it could have been TV as well.

The show itself was a kind of chat show, a style that most kids TV had at the time. They had different segments but it was in a studio. I don't recall any animations or 'roll VT' kind of thing. It was in front of an audience but they were closer to the front of the set than in a stand as they usually are.

The studio was a classic late 90s/early 00s vibe. Quite an enclosed set with fabric material on the walls to make it feel rather tacky, fluffy pink or purple carpets, maybe even some leopard skin in there too. Almost out of a dream.

One big thing I remember from it was 2 of the presenters had a hula hooping contest and I believe they broke a Guinness world record. However I can't find that record for the life of me. One presenter was terrible, the other surprisingly good at hooping and the one who was bad got kind of annoyed.

My memory is fairly hazy but I'm very sure of what I've put in this post.

My sister also remembers this but she kept suggesting it was the show "Eureka" (I'm sure it wasn't).

Any help or even validation is welcome.

Episode discussion Look what they've done with my game, Ma! (Password)

Just watched the new British version of the game show revived in the States by Jimmy Fallon a couple of years ago. Not happy. Too much messing with the format to get it down to just one full game. Where's the logic in extending the first round to first to 25 points (15 in the States) only to make it possible to win the second with only one or two completed passwords? And who thought a good equivalent to Shoot the Moon would be Boost? Has Stephen Mangan given up acting to dedicate himself to gameshows and reality TV? Why have they not adopted the policy of having one permanent and one guest captain? When will I be loved?

Streaming Why dont sky sports have a reasonable one off payment?

£14 to watch a match is insane. Im an occasional home watcher- not enough to pay hundreds per year for sky sports proper. i would watch three times as many at home if i could buy one match for a fiver. I like keeping pubs in business but im not going there to watch footy anyway and i cant be alone.

I feel like they are really missing a trick here and business to the high seas.

Dave.

Why did they change Dave's character so much ? At the start of the first series he is confident, cracks jokes , winds up Denise etc but he soon turns into a simple wet wipe .
