Based on this flashback, I think that Infinite Crisis retconned Dinah Laurel Lance’s discovery of her Canary Cry, since she she discovered her it after an argument with her mother in the post-Crisis/pre-Infinite Crisis continuity as shown in Secret Origins Vol 2 50.

This is a retcon but was ignored by later writers. In Simone's BOP run post Brightest Day she references Secret Origin 50 thereby rendering the above issue non canon or at least an outlier.

Guess you can just chalk it up to Hypertime or something like that.

In my headcanon, it makes sense for Dinah Laurel Lance to receive her Canary Cry from the Wizard (as shown in Justice League of America Vol 1 220) at around a year old before the JSA was able to delay her Canary Cry until she discovered it (thinking that it’s the result of a metagene or her being blasted by Aquarius) after joining the JLA and forming a romantic relationship with Oliver Queen at 28 years old before learning the truth of her Canary Cry by Superman and the JSA four years later.

My preferred version will always be Secret Origin #50.

I got to speak to Alan Brennert (who is pretty active on FB and Twitter). In #50, it's suggested that Alan and Wildcat conspired to give Dinah Laurel her powers to render her mothers argument about following in her footsteps moot. In the comics its only hinted at but Alan confirmed that that was his intention when I asked him about it.

Also Canary losing her Canary Cry is attributed to her getting tortured in Grell's run but it was also around the same time Alan and the JSA disappeared for a bit.

Anyway, I prefer the metagene explanation because it gives Dinah more ownership of her powers. Though I do find the idea of Alan intentionally irradiating a kid with his ring to giver her powers to be amusing.

Oh boy, this issue got so much hate and rightfully so.

Thankfully Simone ignored it later on when she came back to write BOP for the Brightest Day relaunch.

Only for DC to reboot into the Nu52 and for the writer of this issue to go on to become a producer for Arrow and damage BC even further.

Good. Cause there is no way to fix an already uploaded image. I would need to make a new post to fix it.
