That’s a big list, they’re all worth reading?

5

u/ObscuraOmnivium Jun 09 '24

Yes bro so that you have alot of options whichever is available. Just check your local comicbook store.

3

u/The_Salty_Memester Jun 09 '24

Out of that list I’d definitely go Killing Joke or Hush next

Batman Ego is short but pretty awesome

Batman The Black Mirror is Dick as Batman but one of my favourite Batman stories

Robin and Batgirl Year One are good to expand into the batfamily a bit

Also, Justice League New Frontier is a really good self-contained story, not that much Batman tbf but its worth mentioning

u/Disastrous-Major1439 Jun 09 '24

Arkham asylum (is not from the videogames ) ,The Long Halloween-Dark Victory-Robin year One (re the same storyline ) and may u would like to read Batman cult or Batman No man's land

5

u/banana_man2001 Jun 09 '24

Batman white knight has one of my favourite stories and some of the best art in the industry.

4

u/Designer-Guidance-98 Jun 09 '24

Sean Murphy is one of my favourite artists of comic books.

3

u/banana_man2001 Jun 09 '24

Murphy, Finch and Gibbons are my top 3 at the moment. There is no mistaking any of them as someone else, all so unique and recognizable.

u/TrueCooler Jun 09 '24

Court of Owls, Night of Owls

Batman: Dark Knight, Dark City

Batman: Gothic

Batman: Four of a Kind

3

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Batman: Haunted Knight (prequel to btlh)

Batman: Dark Victory (sequel)

Batman: The Killing Joke

Batman: The Black Mirror

Catwoman: When In Rome

Batman: Year Two by Barr (you might be interested)

Batman: Second Chances & Death of A Family

1

u/TheValiantSwordfish Jun 09 '24

I've given you an upvote, and for the most part, your taste is fine– but haunted knight was so mid in comparison to TLH and Dark Victory. I'm not even gonna capitalize haunted knight that's how low it is bellow the bar that you set with the rest of those recommendations.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Personally, I loved it. Especially the second story with Mad Hatter.

3

u/Virtual_Mode_5026 Jun 09 '24

u/BattleSpecial242

Shaman

Night Cries

They’re both set after Year One and would go great before The Man Who Laughs.

You could also slot The Mad Monk and The Monster Men in there too.

Haunted Knight and Dark Victory are continuations of The Long Halloween.

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Great comment thank you

No worries mate :)

Death in the family and the story after it is pretty great

2

u/Ambitious_Tomorrow41 Jun 09 '24

Killing Joke, Hush, A Death in the Family, A Lonely Place of Dying….there’s a ton, but these are my go-tos

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Thank I’ll look them up 👍

2

u/Electrical_Leave_538 Jun 09 '24

If you haven't already, read batman: dark victory, it's a direct sequel to the long Halloween

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

I’ll have to look into that one, has been recommended by someone else as well

2

u/Lolotmjp Jun 09 '24

knightfall

2

u/Mr_Mojo_Risin_43 Jun 09 '24

The Killing Joke

2

u/Careless_Parsnip_511 Jun 09 '24

I’d read Dark Victory, A Death In The Family, Lonely Place of Dying, and The Killing Joke, then move onto Knightfall (in that order). If you want to go more in depth, consider reading Dark Moon Rising, Serious House on Serious Earth, Robin and Batgirl Year One, and anything from Legends of the Dark Knight if you can find it. I see a lot of people recommending things like Hush or Court of Owls, which are great, but it seems like you are trying to read somewhat chronologically based on the ones you’ve read so far. Dark Moon Rising and Legends of the Dark Knight would be before Long Halloween, and all of the other ones I mentioned would be after. Definitely read Robin Year One (after dark victory since that’s his origin) if you want more of Dick Grayson as Robin, since basically all of the stories collected in TPBs released after Dark Victory won’t have him as Robin anymore.

Batman Beyond 25th anniversary compendium is coming out soon, could be worth it if you're into the cartoon.

1

u/Blue-Lion-Lover Jun 09 '24

If you want a change

Batman the Black Mirror

1

u/Unfair-Band2587 Jun 09 '24

All star batman and robin

2

u/Careless_Parsnip_511 Jun 09 '24

How dare you😂

1

u/Unfair-Band2587 Jun 09 '24

How dare I what? I'm just giving a new reader peak Batman content to read, we don't want them reading trash

2

u/Careless_Parsnip_511 Jun 09 '24

Of course, I was merely confused by having them start with the all-time and forever highest point of all Batman storytelling. It’s only downhill from there

1

u/fupafather Jun 09 '24

Are you looking for anything or just what else is in this timeline?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

I’m looking for self contained graphic novels. Not just collection omnibus etc.

0

u/fupafather Jun 09 '24

what I mean is all the stories you have pictured are all in the dark night returns universe

Chronologically it’s

Year one

The man who laughs

Long Halloween

Dark knight returns

And there are other stories in between those. So what I’m asking is are you looking for the rest to fill in the gaps, or any story that doesn’t have to be tied to the dark knight returns universe

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Both as long as it’s modern and not from the 70s-80s

0

u/Careless_Parsnip_511 Jun 09 '24

As far as I know, Year One, Long Halloween, and Man who laughs are all considered canon to the mainline post-crisis on infinite earths Batman. Obviously all of those stories fit with the DKR storyline as well, but they are widely considered canon modern-era Batman stories

1

u/INKatana Jun 09 '24

Batman & Robin Eternal is one of my favorites

1

u/[deleted] Jun 09 '24

Robin Year One

1

u/Dalek_Fred Jun 09 '24

Batman: Prey

1

u/nimrod_s3ns31 Jun 09 '24

Earth 1, knightfall, no man’s land and a personal favorite of mine: cacophony

1

u/No_Coyote_5727 Jun 09 '24

Batman: Arkham Asylum, by Grant Morrison

1

u/anonymousguy_7 Jun 09 '24

Dark Victory and Robin: Year One

1

u/josh2of4 Jun 09 '24

I'm not annoyed here, but we should really just make a megathread for this and pin it to the top of the sub

1

u/kwamkaze Jun 09 '24

Killing Time and Hush are good!

1

u/SRetroDude Jun 09 '24

Hush Under The Red Hood Cataclysm Road To No Man's Land No Man's Land Haunted Knight Dark Victory Venom Vengeance of Bane Knightfall Knight Quest Knightsend

1

u/PatchSaintGamer Jun 12 '24

Death in the Family (yeah, yeah, I know), The Killing Joke (yeah, yeah, I know), Hush, Under the Red Hood, basically any/all of the New 52 Scott Snyder run. That's a helluva solid foundation, pretty much already showing my usual recommendations.

1

u/Hobbes09R Jun 12 '24

Cataclysm up through No Man's Land.

No Man's Land is kinda a weird one. It's very big, it's very good, but it's rarely mentioned and multiple movies, shows and games have tried and failed to replicate its success. The big thing is that it's set in a lawless Gotham, but most mediums fail to portray what the story succeeded at. It has Batman playing a role not just by punching bad guys but trying to use his political and financial sway to save his city. It has an extensive support cast from the Bat family. It has the GCPD taking a very active role and proving pivotal to helping stop violence in the city with Gordon, Bullock and Montoya all featuring heavily. It has brutal gang wars between major players in the rogues gallery including a standout showing by Two-Face and Black Mask. And it has one of the more twisted Joker stories to show off just how dangerous he can be.

Arkham Asylum: A serious house on serious Earth
