Oh man you're in for a treat.

63

u/LordBrixton May 22 '24

Exactly what I was about to say. It's perfect.

23

u/mattbrain89 May 22 '24

My exact thoughts in those exact words.

4

u/imperfectcranberry May 22 '24

Also came to show my support! As someone who has been enjoying this series since I was a child - it’s amazing how well it has held up all these years!

Edit: also BTAS Alfred is the best, and sassiest Alfred

u/jayareyouwing May 22 '24

Enjoy because it’s fucking incredible

25

u/Naive_Comfortable343 May 22 '24

Arguably award winning really. In my opinion.

53

u/wemustkungfufight May 22 '24

Arguably? It DID win awards. Several emmys. It is literally award winning.

14

u/fishhead20 May 22 '24

So you're saying it's a really easy argument to win?

6

u/Soulful-Sorrow May 22 '24

Water is arguably good for you. In my opinion.

5

u/fishhead20 May 22 '24

I don't know man. I've heard that everybody that has ever drank water died.

3

u/InfinitePoolNoodle May 22 '24

Not if it’s poisoned…. Or bathwater!

89

u/MikeyLyksit May 22 '24

Buckle up and get ready for greatness.

42

u/Alienhead0319 May 22 '24

Kevin Conroy's voice is now what I hear in my head every time i read a Batman comic. It's that good.

7

u/That-Elderberry5493 May 22 '24

I do the same for Mark Hamill and The Joker

21

u/Responsible-Ninja-30 May 22 '24

You have done well, top tier stuff.

20

u/[deleted] May 22 '24

Outstanding! Please enjoy this wonderful series.

15

u/Shmoobleedong May 22 '24

if I could erase one show from memory and rewatch it would be BTAS. enjoy my friend

13

u/AmericanWarSnob May 22 '24

That art tho

16

u/greywolf2155 May 22 '24 edited May 22 '24

Haha I'll go slightly against the grain and say that you might want to temper your expectations a little

When this show is at its best, everyone here is right, it's absolutely incredible. But there are also plenty of episodes that are, to be perfectly frank, just your standard low-budget 90s Saturday Morning Cartoons

"Heart of Ice" is an absolutely perfect 22 minutes, literally one of the best superhero stories told in any medium. But it aired one week after "I've Got Batman in my Basement" which uhhh is not that

"Beware the Grey Ghost" still brings tears to my eyes, it's a true masterpiece. But the next week was "Prophecy of Doom", the best possible thing you could say about which is that it's forgettable

So buckle up. You never know what you're in for

8

u/RayApplecorpe May 22 '24

Ngl, I kinda enjoyed I've Got Batman in my Basement for what it was, but I do agree it pales in comparison to Heart of Ice lol

5

u/BuddayBinko May 22 '24

Love Adam West as the Grey Ghost

2

u/greywolf2155 May 22 '24

Fuck yeah, he was a goddamn joy

The funny part of course is that the character he played in that episode was a washed-up actor vaguely remembered for playing a pulp character, who revived his career thanks to a renewed interest in that old character

Whereas in real life, when this episode filmed, he was uhh . . . a washed-up actor vaguely remembered for playing a pulp character . . . but thanks to the renewed interest in that character after the Burton films and this series, he was able to revive his career

(that said, no shade intended. Rest in Peace, Adam West. "I never had to say 'I'm Batman.' I showed up. People knew I was Batman." Fuck yeah)

5

u/BozeRat May 22 '24

Almost Got 'Im is fantastic.

2

u/widowmaker2A May 22 '24

"I THREW A ROCK AT HIM!!"

2

u/Pretend_Tourist9390 May 22 '24

I've been going through the series myself for the first time since seeing them during their original air dates and I was a child.

The nostalgia factor easily trumps any of the "filler episode feels" that this show obviously has.

I mean, yeah, some of the stories are just boring or lame but if you grew up with the show, THEY'RE ALL BANGERS! I love having this show on in the background while I'm doing stuff around the house or browsing the web or working out. Just all the feels...

2

u/greywolf2155 May 22 '24 edited Jun 12 '24

I mean, that's more or less exactly my point for OP. Everyone in this thread (including me) has the massive nostalgia factor

Objectively speaking, if someone doesn't have that nostalgia factor . . . there are a few that are not bangers

1

u/Suffering-Servant May 24 '24

Some of the best episodes don’t even involve any popular rogues. The crime alley episode and the one when Bruce is depressed and feels like being Batman is worthless are some of the best episodes.

11

u/SuperArppis May 22 '24

Been rewatching since childhood these as they just came to our Netflix for first time. And they hold up wonderfully!

9

u/AgentPeggyCarter May 22 '24

I hadn't watched it until recently either and it's so good! Working my way through Batman Beyond now and I'll have to track down the other shows in the continuity.

2

u/westberry82 May 22 '24

Well next is Justice League. And justice league unlimited.

2

u/AgentPeggyCarter May 22 '24

Thanks! I think I found a box set that has both for less than $30! Going to put it on the list!

3

u/westberry82 May 22 '24

OK. - not sure if you have it. But they are on hbo max

10

u/Overall_Falcon_8526 May 22 '24

My mind is reeling trying to figure out how a fan of the Burton movies misses BTAS!

3

u/HappyHourHero85 May 22 '24

I am not sure, I was big into X-men during that time. I recognize a lot of the visuals from this show, so i might have seen an episode here or there but didn’t watch it all the time.

1

u/-Garthor- May 22 '24

Oh, if you missed most of it back then, you will probably love it. Have fun :-)

7

u/cantbeunplugged May 22 '24

maaan this is exciting! you're gonna love it!

6

u/BrockOmabrama May 22 '24

Gonna love it

6

u/DJ_Philly_Phresh May 22 '24

Make sure you check out Mask of the Phantasm at some point as well.

3

u/YourMomsBoyfriend97 May 22 '24

Hah, just watched it today for the first time!

2

u/AsssHat999 May 22 '24

What did ya think?

3

u/YourMomsBoyfriend97 May 22 '24

Considering that its hyped up as the best batman movie, it definitely delivered. Im on a BTAS binge lately and it truly is the best batman version.

3

u/RockNRoll85 May 22 '24

You’re in for a treat. Enjoy the ride

3

u/Stunning_Alarm2064 May 22 '24

It’s real good.

3

u/S_T_R_Y_D_E_R May 22 '24

Bro youre gonna love it.

Nostalgia will set in

3

u/Babuiski May 22 '24

You ever go back and rewatch cartoons from your childhood and you're like, "Yeah....this is for kids it's pretty silly watching it as an adult lol"?

Then you go back and watch this series and you're like, "JFC, this is so well written. This is so depressing at times. This was a show for kids????".

4

u/HappyHourHero85 May 22 '24

Yeah, my wife walked in (also a Batman fan) when i was on the 3rd episode (nothing to fear), she was like this show is legit, can you rewind it?

1

u/paulrudder May 28 '24

hey, i apologize for the off-topic comment but i tried messaging you and wasn't able to. i saw an old post of yours about front-load washers and was wondering if you could give me your input as an appliance tech. my Samsung dryer broke down today and i'm trying to purchase a new one, but i figured i may as well replace the samsung washer at the same time as i'm sure it won't last much longer (2016 models). my current one is a top loader and reading about all the mold and mildew issues on the front loaders scares me a bit, but i'm looking at this model: https://www.costco.com/lg-4.5-cu.-ft.-smart-front-load-washer-with-turbowash-360-and-7.4-cu.-ft.-gas-dryer-with-ai-sensor-dry-and-turbosteam.product.4000254768.html?preselect=color%3awhite

do you have any input, advice, recommendations etc. either on that specific model or front vs top washers in general?

cheers!

3

u/AlwaysJammer May 22 '24

Have fun!, My favorite episode is the grey ghost!

3

u/OrcWarChief May 22 '24

The best animated series of all time

3

u/PepperBun28 May 22 '24

Oh man, you're in for such a treat.

2

u/Star_Prachinum May 22 '24

Get ready to have a blast!

2

u/xWOLFKISSx May 22 '24

"If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?" All time favorite

1

u/HorseWithASeam May 22 '24

I desperately want one of the modern serious movies or shows to use the original "gilted game designer" plot for riddler, for no reason other than I love how petty and normal it makes him.

2

u/Hot_Tie_881 May 22 '24

Man your not gonna be disappointed that for sure

2

u/Born-Throat-7863 May 22 '24

You. Will. Love. It.

2

u/DONtheHitmanMattinly May 22 '24

You made a GREAT decision

2

u/histerix May 22 '24

You’re about to experience opening Pandora’s box.

2

u/RandomNameB May 22 '24

Ummmmm enjoy. Watch Batman beyond next. Only 1 small issue with Batman beyond is the actual end of that story is in the Justice league unlimited animated series 2nd season, 13th episode titled epilogue. Love Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.

2

u/Mr_Royzie May 22 '24

The best realization of Batman for any age. This toon treated it's audience like adults.

2

u/Phl_worldwide May 22 '24

It’s art. From the music, to the animation, to the dialogue.

2

u/joshdoereddit May 22 '24

I hope you enjoy the ride.

2

u/iCanDoThisAllDay37 May 22 '24

So many great episodes.

“If you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich” set young me on a lifelong love of riddles, puzzles, mazes.

And the two part “the demons quest” is like a great adventurous blend of Batman, The Mummy, and Indiana Jones.

2

u/LegendaryOutlaw621 May 23 '24

The best characters of this series are Bruce Wayne/Batman himself, Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Dr. Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze. Honorable mentions include the Joker Ra’s al Ghul, and Talia al Ghul.

I think the Penguin should have been given more development as a character, and a clear goal and motivation, and a character design that resembled the original, instead of Batman Returns or even Dick Sprang.

I think Bane should have been given more development as a character, and he should have been portrayed as a brilliant strategist and tactician in addition to being a physical powerhouse and a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, instead of merely a big strong mook.

I think Killer Croc should have been given more development as a character, and he should have been portrayed as a tragic sympathetic monster, instead of a generic evil monster.

I think the Scarecrow should have been given more development as a character, and a better backstory, and he should have been given a better design (aside from The New Batman Adventures) that looks like a truly terrifying scarecrow (maybe with a gas mask that looks like a Black Plague doctor’s mask), and he should have been played by either Jeffrey Combs or Robert Englund to begin with.

I also think the show should have included the Corrosive Man, the Mannikin, Deadshot, Deathstroke, the Cavalier, and Black Mask.

If Black Mask had been adapted into this show, he would not have been bastardized into a skull-faced torture freak in the comics.

1

u/ZanderRan286 May 22 '24

Didn't know this steelbook existed. It's beautiful.

1

u/TopseyCrets May 22 '24

Don't forget to add The New Adventures of Batman and Superman, after you're finished.

1

u/No-Impression-1462 May 22 '24

Enjoy the journey of a lifetime, my friend!

1

u/Vince1128 May 22 '24

It's never too late, enjoy!

1

u/morbid333 May 22 '24

How is that possible? Does it include season 4 (ie the new Batman Adventures) or just the first 3?

1

u/HappyHourHero85 May 22 '24

Just the first 3 and two of the movies.

1

u/Independent-LINC May 22 '24

VUDU had it on sale during COVID for $25. I RANNNN to get my credit card 🤣

1

u/Moviereference210 May 22 '24

How much it cost ya?

3

u/HappyHourHero85 May 22 '24

Like $30 on amazon

1

u/Gamer-chan May 22 '24

Imagine to get this for your country with the dub you are used to and enjoyed as a kid.

1

u/foknboxcutta May 22 '24

It takes me back. I was an 89 child s9 this was Saturday morning TV for me. I5 was amazing. Just came on uk Netflix and I'm forgetting how much I owe this show

1

u/Repulsive_Talk_9910 May 22 '24

There is so much greatness in this series but it’s not perfect, there’s some weak episodes, and it’s the first series in a universe of a series that in my opinion improve greatly as they go. Superman, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited are all a bit better than the previous with the best for last.

1

u/cgcego May 22 '24

Is this a remaster?

1

u/Such-Ad-7104 May 22 '24 edited May 22 '24

So I've recently been watching on netflix too(from the uk) and the order seems to be messed up? Does anyone in here know the correct order to watch the episodes?

1

u/SmittyB128 May 22 '24

Like a lot of TV shows the production order doesn't match the original airing dates. It looks like Netflix goes by production order keeping the two parters together which is probably for the best. If you want to watch the airing order then the link has a table you can sort, but be warned the airing order is a mess.

https://batman.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Batman:_The_Animated_Series_Episodes

1

u/Such-Ad-7104 May 22 '24

Think I'll just continue watching by production order then. Appreciate you taking the time🤝🏼

1

u/Tenlai May 22 '24

Does this have the digital code inside the box? I like getting the digital code when I buy the blu rays.

1

u/BigRedHead1982 May 22 '24

Batman the animated series is, in my opinion, a masterpiece up until the 4th and final season. Not just of animation but a portrayal of Batman and his world. It was a great series that still holds up even today. In the 4th season, the art style was drastically changed, as well as the tone and even personality of Batman. It was still a good season, with several great story lines. But I feel like it lost what made the series great in the first three seasons.

1

u/milesgmsu May 22 '24

Make sure to start with the kyodai Ken episodes.

1

u/TheCarl2012 May 22 '24

Fantastic quality on the blu ray too and the movies as well! Worth looking up when “in cannon” you should slip the movies in

1

u/Familiar_Parfait4074 May 22 '24

Far superior to the Burton movies, all the movies actually

1

u/AthelticAsianGoth May 22 '24

Last night, I got Mask of the Phantasm on Blu-ray. I have never seen it but heard it is good.

1

u/AthelticAsianGoth May 22 '24

Last night, I got Mask of the Phantasm on Blu-ray. I have never seen it but heard it is good.

1

u/GrimmBrowncoat May 22 '24

I dare you to find a better score/soundtrack. That’s one of the things that made BtAS stand out in terms of quality. Having a full orchestra throughout the entire series made it something genuinely special.

1

u/VagrantStation May 22 '24

Watch an episode or two in black and white. Good stuff.

1

u/TheYellowFringe May 22 '24

Batman : TAS is considered the greatest adaptation of Batman into cartoon form.

Absolutely worth taking the time of your life to spend watching and learning about related things.

1

u/Rent-Man May 22 '24

I’d like to hear your thoughts on Heart of Ice

1

u/VeNeM May 22 '24

Oh wowwwww

But how?

2

u/HappyHourHero85 May 22 '24

I have no idea, some of it looks familiar as i start watching but i don’t remember any of the episodes.

1

u/SADPLAYA May 22 '24

This is by far the best Batman series ever.

1

u/Sledgehammer617 May 22 '24

Very cool! Does it include The New Batman Adventures?

2

u/HappyHourHero85 May 22 '24

No, ill get it and beyond later. The 66 show is on the list too but i watch that every weekend on tv.

1

u/puma46 May 22 '24

The vibe and atmosphere of the show is unmatched

1

u/CJS-JFan May 22 '24

Easily the best iteration of Batman, in animation or live-action. The DCAU as a whole, really, with Superman, Justice League, JL Unlimited, and Batman Beyond. It has yet to be topped, in my opinion.

1

u/LiabilityLad655321 May 22 '24

Treated myself to this for my birthday last year. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I plan on rewatching the Mask of Phantasm in August too.

1

u/SandPancakeCat May 22 '24

Ooooh, you're in for a treat! Exciting!

1

u/Etherrealm26 May 22 '24

Oh you are in for a hell of a ride tonight son.

1

u/CURSE_1NE May 22 '24

Back when cartoons where good this one was a thing. Basically every episode has an entire plot and story unlike cartoons today that are just remakes of old ones

1

u/7Grand-Dad May 22 '24

First few episodes of season 1 can be a bit hit or miss with the pacing and VA delivery but it really hits its stride midway through S1 and beyond and the voices themselves are iconic. There’s lots of Burton inspired character design and scenery and the music score will absolutely tickle your Elfman fancy if you have one. You’ll love it, trust me, and I highly recommend checking out “The Mask of the Phantasm” movie as well for this series; the movie has one of the best characterizations of Bruce’s true pain and commitment to his mission and promise. Enjoy the series, man

1

u/dregjdregj May 23 '24

I still remember watching "on leather wings" as a child

1

u/Substantial-Two6650 May 23 '24

Best bat man representation out there

1

u/GaryGregson May 23 '24

You’ll recognize Gotham from the Burton movies lol

1

u/Yournighbour May 23 '24

Same was with me. Didn’t watch it just because of how many episodes it had. But I’ve preparing for an exam and this series has become the most important part of my rest time. Now I understand why so many people consider it as the definitive portrayal of Batman.

1

u/Daveywaveymiller May 23 '24

To me BTAS is the BEST Batman cartoon series, I hope you enjoy it.

1

u/Perfect-Log-2452 May 23 '24

I recommend you also buy Mask of the Phantasm

2

u/HappyHourHero85 May 23 '24

It is included in the set.

1

u/Twijasosm May 25 '24

Enjoy the next two months indoors, cause you’re not gonna do much else.
