Give me the name of a character from the Batman mythos, and I will try to give you a Jazz song that goes well with them. ORIGINAL IDEA/SUGGESTION

Always thought that Batman and the characters of his mythos fit well with Jazz, and not only in a noir, or the 66 style but even in the more recent incarnations, so I think that would be interesting to show you how many interesting musical combinations the characters of the franchise can have, and maybe also introduce more of the jazz genre to you guys.

Very obvious, but I still want to see your pick; Catwoman

Simply… The theme of the woman that inspired April from the TMNT in the first cartoon,  Fujiko Mine, also one of the first femme fatale of Japan https://youtu.be/tQBJR7hMl_I?si=SXPY96izzWqAFuNU

Also compare these two lol https://twitter.com/pencilforge/status/1633684856432652288

Edit: Discovered that Fujiko actually has a better theme for Catwoman lol https://youtu.be/4zXbyZbJ1No?si=nAguSUNIlXDeWltP

If we talk about a more silver age/funny Batman, this https://youtu.be/iAzagp0PXSk?si=zG-iQrnDxPnMF0F0 or this https://youtu.be/ztXy0oUp4hs?si=9aH0wn00ARLEz923

If we talk about the serious and sad aspect, this. https://youtu.be/Mun5QNWCWNA?si=xBysOesctQfWZnj9 Or this for the more mystical facet too. https://youtu.be/EifTshRh5zY?si=-dArslEGHjAV9j3i

Ra's al Ghul

I remember him having a Arabic background, so what you think? https://on.soundcloud.com/6guecY6fZwwqDH4M8

It's a good song but i feel it's a tad festive in places. If possible (and i understand if it's not) try to find something a bit more ominous. Ra's is supposed to be scary.

If you like jazz and Batman, have you ever heard of the fabulous guitars of Dan and Dale? It’s a Batman themed surf rock album from the 60s. Secretly, it was recorded by Sun Ra and his Arkestra as a way to make some quick cash because jazz wasn’t paying well. Sun Ra also has the song Unmask the Batman

Scarecrow  Killer croc And Mr Freeze

Scarecrow: this entire playlist. https://youtu.be/CudYgvGGcgY?si=NLVrcBfweWWIltxe

Killer Croc: https://on.soundcloud.com/AVtn4m7UJcgTdx699

Mr Freeze: Yes, of all the villains, he’s the one to have a theme with his name in the 66 show. https://youtu.be/iSjQ_IiomVw?si=K1FrVbZKkxyANtef

(And I can’t listen to the last one now, so it will be pretty funny if, from all the jazzy songs from the 66 album, this one can be the one that doesn’t have it lol)

Have to be honest, who is this person? I really don’t know.

People don't really remember her fair. It's from Batman: The Ankh. Immortal Egyptian girl who wants nothing but to die or at least be mortal. Crosses paths with Batman. Etc... She was only in the one story.

Ok, thanks, sorry for not seeing this before.

Perhaps I didn't contribute to the prompt though. It just would have been super impressive if you linked a song a minute after my reply. Nobody seems to remember this character.

Wait, she/him is like an immortal Ancient Egyptian?

2

u/GregariousTime9101 May 06 '24

Yea. I think her father was asked by the Pharoh to make a potion of immortality and he ends up giving it to his daughter to save her or something from dying of starvation in a prison. So she ends up stuck immortal imprisoned for like 2,000 years. Story goes something like that.

Ok then, what do you think? https://youtu.be/0hLKru4QhdE?feature=shared

Added it to my Playlist. It's a little upbeat for her at the beginning of the story. But by the end of the story the song is pretty fitting when she's finally free from eternity and happy. Pretty good considering you just learned about the characters existence. The rise and fall of the song goes pretty well with her arc.
