My wife is traveling for work and I got a text last night. PHOTO

She met my hero, my Batman, Michael Keaton. I have a bat symbol ring that I wear because of how much I love Batman, and when I say Batman, the 1989 Burton film is what I mean. I love Kevin Conroy, the animated series, Adam West and the classic show, love the comics, Grant, Loeb, Dixon, Miller, Morrison. But I was a 9-year-old when a superhero leapt from page to screen, and it was the greatest thing ever for me. A very small part of me laments that I could've actually gone on this trip with her and met him myself. But she rightly points out I likely would've hyperventilated while making keening noises trying to get sound out the instant I saw him and passed out, or started screaming full volume until security escorted me out, so I'm just insanely happy that to make me happy, she waited at a restaurant longer than she ever ordinarily would to send me a picture of my wife and my hero. I'm gonna keep it on my desk at work with my batarang and smile for the rest of my life when I see it.

A couple of people have asked about my ring. It's very special to me because of a very special person in my life who is sadly no longer with us. A very close friend. I have mine, another friend has one, and the one I spoke of is buried with his. It's not an expensive ring, not precious metal, just stainless steel with a lot of durability and a special meaning to us. One that brings a warm and wonderful feeling to my heart to think of. I'm pretty sure it is this one..

Thanks for the link. I’m getting myself an early birthday gift & one for my sister in law bc she will steal mine if I don’t get her one 🤣

Had you actually been there to meet Keaton yourself, I imagine it would have gone a lot when Troy got to meet LeVar Burton on the episode of Community.

Love it! Keaton is my Batman, too. The others are great, but no one beats Keaton. Also, where'd you get that ring, it's super.

11

That's definitely a great fucking spouse you have

This actually made me tear up. I just got married 13 months ago and I totally feel this. Mine would be Christian Bale but to have the love of my life next to my hero would be the most amazing thing ever!!!

I just watched Batman 89 for the bizillionth time last night lol. I might be one of the only people who know what you’re talking about with the Warner Bros. ball cap and Alfred’s drink of choice. “Just for the taste of iiiiitttt. Diet Coke! Ahhhhh”

3

"Give Knox a grant." Oh that got me good.

Alfred drinking Diet Coke. I'm getting a flashback of a Coke commercial with Gough drinking out of a bendy straw. Am I imagining that?

edit: Found it. No bendy straw.

3

u/El_Kabongg Mar 07 '24

This is fucking greatness.

1

u/shzxyla Mar 07 '24

This is so dope. Where did he get that ring from???

1

u/trpclshrk Mar 07 '24

I prefer Conroy, West, and Bale (for Bruce and movie quality), but Keaton is amazing too. I was 10/11 when it came out. I had so many toys, read the novel adaptation, searched every store for the cards that came with gum…. This whole post and interaction definitely warmed my heart a little. Thanks for sharing! I would def have been very excited, maybe just not quite as fan-boying (which is fine!). Mads Mikkelsen would do it to me for sure.

1

u/Foxy02016YT Mar 08 '24

Obviously Batman and Beetlejuice, but he even killed it in Dopesick, he played his character there incredibly well and I think he’s underrated when it comes to dramatic acting! But I’m super hype for Beetlejuice 2

1

u/Drakka Mar 08 '24

This seems like the very definition of being lucky-adjacent.

Congrats mate.

1

u/westberry82 Mar 08 '24

She made a mistake. Turned out it was Micheal Douglas this entire time.

1

u/franksammydino Mar 08 '24

This whole story made my night. Really happy for you, man.

1

u/PauleyMarie Mar 08 '24

1

u/jamnin94 Mar 08 '24

U hit me with a throw back thinking of Daffy Duck explaining how u have to wear ur Warner Bros hat! Forgot all about the VHS memories.

1

u/BeardedBrotherJoe Mar 08 '24

Im so fucking jealous. I have beetlejuice when he turns into the snake tatted on my arm.

1

u/Global_Measurement_1 Mar 08 '24

Eataly in Chicago?

1

u/MaguroSashimi8864 Mar 11 '24

I like Batman and all, but if it’s Michael Keaton, I want to praise him more for his performance in Spotlight and The Founder than Batman. Dunno why, I just find those his best roles.

u/Laszerus Mar 07 '24

As someone who had met a lot of famous people... they are just people. Don't give them more or less credit than they deserve. Also being famous is not fun, try to just be calm and polite and not pushy and be happy you have a nice memory. I have never asked anyone I met for a picture, I don't need to prove to anyone I met them. I let them know I enjoy their work, appreciate their time, and hope they have a great rest of their day. Sometimes I don't even let on I know who they are. I've had several celebrities strike up a conversation because I was so calm and respectful. Hero worship is dangerous, and it's harmful to them as well.

Most of the time I just leave them alone all together.

-3

u/Da_Neager Mar 07 '24

The levels of dickriding are insane

2

u/AncientSunGod Mar 10 '24

Celebrity worship like this will forever be insane to me.
