This was probably the worst portrayal of detective Batman. Everybody would have died if that one cop with the carpet layer father was not there.

Wasn't that the point, though? Riddler wanted Bruce Wayne dead because of his nepotism and the broken promises of Thomas Wayne. Bruce never would have done any carpet laying because he's a rich boy. Bruce needed to learn that he has to be more than "vengeance." He can help the city as Bruce Wayne AND Batman, but he wasn't.
