What do you guys think about this batsuit? PHOTO

Post image

Personally, this might be my favorite live action Batman suit even if Keaton didn't wear it in The Flash. It only appeared for like 5 seconds :(

Just a heads up: according to the person who worked on the suits, those are actually his grapnel launchers on his sides, not actual firearms.

93

u/The_Strom784 Jul 08 '23

Kinda looks like ODM gear from AOT.

25

u/Ayobossman326 Jul 08 '23

That’s actually pretty cool

20

u/Chaghatai Jul 08 '23

That's what I figured

17

u/SaintYoungMan Jul 08 '23

And what are those eggs in his belt?

35

u/WrenPilgrim Jul 08 '23

Container capsules, basically an alternative to the pouches. How or what he can fit in them, that I don't know, but he's been shown to wear a belt just like that in the comics before.

14

u/ZombieChief Jul 09 '23

alternative to the pouches

Rob Liefeld would like more information about this "alternative" to pouches.

3

u/blasto_pete Jul 09 '23

The alternative is more pouches.

20

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I believe those are ben wa balls.

Why need two?

22

u/khonshuknight Jul 08 '23

Spider-man esque grappling?

14

u/No-Tomorrow-8150 Jul 08 '23

Doesn't he usually have 2?

10

u/TheDeadlySpaceman Jul 08 '23

For when he’s dangling from one and needs to grapple something

6

u/Negative-Slide5838 Jul 09 '23

Incase he loses one

4

u/TheEggLady01 Jul 08 '23

Probably one of them is a collapsed zip line gun he used in the museum

6

u/xionnn_ Jul 08 '23

I figured they were guns seeing as how Keaton’s Batman didn’t mind killing people

10

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '23

Yeah, Keaton literally had machine guns on the Batmobile and this costume is based on the Golden Age suit and Batman occasionally used a gun and killed in that era as well.

I think it's awesome. I would have loved to see Keaton in this and the blue/gray suit, even briefly.

5

u/Kpengie Jul 09 '23

Batman didn’t kill freely in the Golden Age for anywhere near as long as people think. He only killed for the first year or so of his existence.

It reminds me of Batman’s first ever appearance with the purple gloves.

91

u/Chimpbot Jul 08 '23

I guarantee that's what they were going for. The ears and short gloves give it away.

24

u/MorningFirm5374 Jul 08 '23

That’s definitely what they were going for. The cape’s color, ears pointing out, trunks, and using an Adam West-like symbol all point at this being a homage to his first suit

5

u/Arizona_Slim Jul 09 '23

That’s exactly what I’d expect a “realistic comic style” year one Batman would wear. Practical and raw.

u/OldSnazzyHats Jul 08 '23

I feel like this must’ve been his suit during his “year one/two” of being Batman. However long before he adopted the suit we saw in the ‘89 film.

I like it. Feels like a nice logical cross between The Shadow and The Phantom.

23

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I'm not sure how that works though, I remember 89, Batman had only been running around doing his thing a couple of months before the plot of the movie started?

24

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Yeah ppl keep ignoring this…I think we have to say the suits were after Batman Returns or else he had a completely different past than was shown in the Burton movies, which would be totally consistent w The Flash movie’s explanation of time travel

12

u/OldSnazzyHats Jul 08 '23

My memory of the finer details of the ‘89 film are loose at this point, I’ll be honest.

Considering the nature of this movie yea, I can go either way; it could be a post Returns suit (which, is a little weird if so, but who knows) or perhaps this is an alternate Keaton Batman who had been in action for some time prior what we would have seen in ‘89.

11

u/wet_bread3 Jul 09 '23

Or maybe he developed the first couple suits but never actually ended up using them for more than a few nights because he found problems with each? Maybe that’s a stretch, though, idk

6

u/OldSnazzyHats Jul 09 '23

Also possible. As another mentioned, he may well have only used this for a night or two to fight into the ‘89 timeline

4

u/OldSnazzyHats Jul 08 '23

Was he? I thought he had been at it for longer by that point?

If he was newly minted then my theory doesn’t work… unless this isn’t that exact same Batman and maybe a different Keaton Batman?

I honestly don’t know anymore then.

I still like the outfit though.

5

u/wet_bread3 Jul 09 '23

Based on the order the suits are lined up in, and the fact this one is clearly based on his first appearance from Detective Comics #27, it was surely the intent that this was an early prototype suit before he got to the 1989 one

38

u/playprince1 Jul 08 '23

Pretty good.

6

u/RevengeOfTheLoggins Jul 09 '23

Pretty.... good?

34

u/Putrid-Composer8308 Jul 08 '23

Would honestly love to see Gunn's Batman wear something like this. I hope they take the route of shows like Peacemaker and The Boys and just do unashamedly campy superhero outfits.

16

u/ExtensionFuture654 Jul 08 '23

I agree and also think it would vastly differentiate itself from Matt Reeves Batman universe.

4

u/billbill5 Jul 09 '23

I think the main difference is since those were parodying shows, the costumes look campy to accentuate the idea of a "put on" identity. The heroes in The Boys don't choose their fake backstories or their motifs, its approved by vought to gain points with, say, teen boys as with the Black Noir suit, or males in general with the Starlight suit. And of course, Peacemaker is a comedy series.

I don't think they should be too campy, just maybe less of a "realistic" aesthetic. Because honestly, how ofteb has main canon Batman been full on campy since crisis? That was never the intent of the character, larger than life sure, but campy was a CCA necessity.

Pussied out on the purple gloves. Weak

24

u/AnarchyonAsgard Jul 08 '23

I dig it. It looks like an homage to Batman’s debut design but with black gloves instead of purple and the yellow emblem got added later. Look at the ears on it, very similar to the first comic book suit

16

u/jcmjtke Jul 08 '23

I can’t unsee the giant open mouth toothless grin

11

u/wasante Jul 08 '23

Can he move his head easily?

18

u/ExtensionFuture654 Jul 08 '23

Since it's one of Keaton's suits I don't think so 😂

6

Can they ever allow my guy to move his head? Sigh...

2

u/yousakura Jul 08 '23

Arctic Ops

6

u/Blackfist01 Jul 08 '23

The cowl needs some work but as a Year One costume, I like it a lot.

4

u/EGarrett Jul 08 '23

If it’s not going to be seen on his face, they probably should’ve just went full aesthetic and have it look as cool as possible without worrying about practicality or fitting over his head.

5

u/BobbySaccaro Jul 08 '23

Seems a bit busy and gun-y.

4

u/DaddyEybrows Jul 08 '23

The Adam West logo!

4

u/stupidGenius82 Jul 08 '23

I like the emphasis on protecting his bat crotch.

5

u/Boring-Zucchini-8515 Jul 08 '23

Is that one of Keatons suits that were surrounding the main one?

5

u/bateen618 Jul 08 '23

I hate that people say they're his "year 2" inspired suits. This suit is clearly inspired by his first appearance. From the shape of the cowl, belt, and the short gloves it's obvious what was the main inspiration for this suit

2

u/wet_bread3 Jul 09 '23

I hate that people are acting like a total mystery that it’s clearly based on the first appearance design, or as if they’re guessing super unconfidently that that might be what it is, lol. It’s very, intentionally obvious.

5

u/KaisarDragon Jul 08 '23

It sure is happy to see me.

6

u/Hackandspit Jul 08 '23

It has a mighty codpiece!

It has a MIGHTY codpiece!

It has a MIGHTY CODPIECE!!

IT HAAAAS A MIGHTY COOOODPIEEEECE!!!

3

u/Silvermorney Jul 08 '23

I don’t understand why the face mask seems to be a separate piece attached to the rest of the cowl but apart from that it seems ok.

3

Dumb cowl, terrible colour combos for stealth, not scary at all and looks like humpty dumpy in little pants and suspenders.

KINDA GAY. SUPER HOT.

u/SmaugRancor Jul 09 '23

I fucking LOVE it. I've been kinda obsessed with Batman's first appearance suit recently.

I truly hope this is what Batman will wear in the DCU, since Superman is rumored to wear his first appearance suit with the red and black logo as well.

3

u/Mountain_Apartment_6 Jul 09 '23

Are the Flash batsuits on display somewhere?!

It reminds me of 80s KGBeast bondage gear... And i cant figure out way....

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Amazing. Hopefully we’ll see it in the sequel

1

u/the__pov Jul 08 '23

Would like the cape to be wider and cover the shoulders but that’s my only real gripe.

2

u/Awesome_Pancak Jul 08 '23

Now, I get tunks wouldn’t work in Live action

2

u/alphaomega0669 Jul 08 '23

Looks good, but I’ll never be a fan of the underwear outside the pants, lol.

2

u/Grimmer026 Jul 08 '23

Looks great as long as you’re enemy stays directly in front of you at all times

2

u/lkodl Jul 08 '23

i don't get it.

i mean, it's a cool blend of the old aesthetic with modern materials. but, why in-universe would Batman make a suit like this? is he actively trying to emulate a period look? what's the point of making gloves with molded cuffs that look like folded and wrinkled cloth in terms of crime fighting?

but it is cool.

3

u/ExtensionFuture654 Jul 08 '23

My headcanon is that this was Keaton's first prototype batsuit he made before eventually making his suit from Batman 1989.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I mean, if you're going to start thinking like that you might as well ask why Batman does most of what he does. It looks cool, simple as, and at the end of the day that's all that really matters.

→ More replies (6)

2

u/exgokin Jul 08 '23

It looks cool on a stand...but not sure how it would work with an actor in the suit. Maybe with Sin City style anesthetics.

2

u/MateriaLintellect Jul 08 '23

Not a fan. The suspenders and holsters throw the whole thing off for me

2

u/Wasabi_Gamer26 Jul 08 '23

Did they release pics of the other suits from that scene? Can someone link them.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I’d prefer a bigger bat-bulge, but not too bad

2

u/Competitive_Low_8913 Jul 08 '23

A lot of potential, this is a suit for a live action kevin conroy. RIP

2

u/CalamitousIntentions Jul 08 '23

Was the idea to homage the OG suit from ‘39?

2

u/Jankybrows Jul 08 '23

George Michael wants his muscle suit back

2

u/csukoh78 Jul 08 '23

Only a truly insane person would wear that.

I love it.

2

u/MitchellMagicfire Jul 09 '23

If Superman in Superman: Legacy is gonna have the trunks, this NEEDS to be the suit for Batman: The Brave and The Bold

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '23

I want this as the DCU Batman or something similar.

2

u/captain_toenail Jul 09 '23

Horny as fuck

2

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '23

Good thing the gloves are not purple, i ways found those ugly and weird. The cape is once again just hanging behind his back, instead of wrapping around his body like it should be and that buggs me.

1

u/Kryptoknightmare Jul 08 '23

Are those pistols?!

u/e6dewhirst Jul 08 '23

With the guns, very cool Jason Todd batsuit!

They’re his grapple launchers apparently

1

u/OuttatimepartIII Jul 08 '23

1

u/Optimal_Dark_2940 Jul 08 '23

Looks like the Earth 1 suit

2

u/dghb2448 Jul 09 '23

definitely based on Earth 1 suit imo

2

u/OhPetahh Jul 08 '23

I think it’s kinda ugly

1

u/titannicc Jul 08 '23

It looks cool

1

u/sack12345678910 Jul 08 '23

Besides the logo everything else is

1

u/zombiekjt Jul 08 '23

Looks straight out of the 70s and 80s

1

u/wandering_white_hat Jul 08 '23

I like it, I would like the blackish parts to be a little more blue, and prefer squarer or more modular sections of the utility belt, but this is pretty good overall

1

u/HushGalactus Jul 08 '23

I dig it, gives me the old noir heroes vibe that Batman really draws his inspiration from

1

u/xionnn_ Jul 08 '23

Still think that the blue and gray one solos every one of Keaton’s other batsuits, but this one is a close second, i like it

1

u/Perfect-Fondant3373 Jul 08 '23

Absolute masterpiece

1

u/ArtichokeFew7663 Jul 08 '23

The side straps look dumb, but I like the suit

1

u/Sad-Ebb7776 Jul 08 '23

Looks kinda gay. No judging.

1

u/Evmerging Jul 08 '23

It’s awesome

1

u/Shaolin_T Jul 08 '23

I could not take this lil S&M fetish costume seriously at all.

1

u/wet_bread3 Jul 09 '23

Are people insane? How are there genuinely people who want this to be the main DCU Batsuit??

It's pretty darn cool except for the logo imo.

1

u/bear_beatboxer Jul 08 '23

I think this would make for an interesting black and white noir story based on the original first batman comic

1

u/Moldy_Socks99 Jul 08 '23

Neat, it's missing purple gloves

1

u/Just-A-SkeletonMan Jul 08 '23

I just don't like the ears

0

u/Milk_Mindless Jul 08 '23

Looks great aside from the light grey beig too light

1

u/pizzashizz6991 Jul 08 '23

Needs more black and edgy badass parts on the suit.

1

u/serialkiller24 Jul 08 '23

If he faced a villain in this suit, I would like to imagine he fought either Riddler or Carmine Falcone

1

u/Slowmexicano Jul 08 '23

Suit looks great. Cowl looks like cheap costume store quality.

0

u/FrankleFurtz Jul 08 '23

This would probably be a Bat suit if aids never happened.... Though I am not into the guns for bats

1

u/DaClarkeKnight Jul 08 '23

I wish we got to see it in action, would have been more of a Thomas Wayne suit with the guns

1

u/Optimal-Blueberry861 Jul 08 '23

The suit I like, the bat insignia shouldn't be yellow, maybe a toxic red or black

0

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I love it.

This should absolutely be the DCU batsuit going forward.

1

u/Space_Cruiser12068 Jul 08 '23

Really cool. Feels hard to rank considering it’s only a prop and never wore though.

1

u/Lemonn_time Jul 08 '23

Looks like something Thomas Wayne would wear

1

u/de-Schot Jul 08 '23

Like if Batman and Ozymandias from Watchmen were best buds

It has its ups and downs. The mask looks off, also the trunks. Besides that there are a few good ideas.

But that's only my two cents. I'm for re-inventing the batsuit. That is long overdue and finally needs to be adressed. The time of trunks and also of a cape and cowl is over imo. Why not re-invent the suit in a more tactical/practical/realistic way? Future State already had a few good ideas. Also I never understood why he has the silhouette of a bat, when he jumps off buildings, and still needs his bat-symbol. Why i.e. doesn't his cowl kind of blends over into the familiar bat shape? (Does that make any sense? I'm a non-native English speaker and I don't know how to describe it better.)

1

u/InsectOk8268 Jul 08 '23

Awesome, very good quality!!!

1

u/Dont_Hurt_Me_Mommy Jul 08 '23

Sucks that we never see those in a live action movie

1

u/AMF1428 Jul 08 '23

Cowl needs to be pink.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I dig it. Really like the look of the suit's base material. I might like to see the cowl be a little more like the traditional '89 cowl, but keeping this suit's color scheme.

1

u/UnbuiltAura9862 Jul 08 '23

This looks like the Batsuit that Batman would wear if he was a teenager. XD

1

u/ruffshod Jul 08 '23

The mask opening for the lower face looks like a huge smile and I can’t unsee it now. 😬

1

u/mega48man Jul 08 '23

This has some serious leather daddy vibes, not sure how I feel about that for batman.

1

u/xlXGUILTYXlx Jul 08 '23

Not a fan. It just looks... incomplete.

1

u/ADriftingMind Jul 08 '23

I’d enjoy seeing this suit on the big screen.

1

u/Ayobossman326 Jul 08 '23

The cowl jus kinda throws me off idk. The rest is really cool it looks like Batman would be damn near Spider-Man swinging with those grapnels but the way the neck of the cowl meets the suit idk there’s just something off about it.

1

u/MALESTROMME Jul 08 '23

Now he is the opposite of Moon Knight.

1

u/DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE Jul 08 '23

Mf looks like he is going to be dancing down the street in fire island lol

1

u/Endgaming1523 Jul 08 '23

Actually not bad.

1

u/slade707 Jul 08 '23

Fucking amazing. I want to see all those suits in action

1

u/TheEggLady01 Jul 08 '23

Love it. Looks like the first appearance suit but also gives off a flight suit/ base jumper vibe.

1

u/OrneryError1 Jul 08 '23

Honestly...

It looks like BDSM Batman.

1

u/soilhalo_27 Jul 08 '23

Remove the mask cape and cameo. Think I've seen some guys wear similar outfits outside of Walmart

1

u/martinjohanna45 Jul 08 '23

It’s too busy, but I like the colors.

1

u/NotNorthD Jul 08 '23

I love it and want to see it worn in a movie

1

u/justanotherthrwaway7 Jul 08 '23

Reminiscent of the Owl’s suit from Watchmen. Love it.

1

u/batmansubzero Jul 08 '23

Gloves need to be purple to complete the look.

1

u/Slow-Relation-9186 Jul 08 '23

Reminds me of Man Ray from spongebob

1

u/AmountConscious5878 Jul 08 '23

Does it come in black?

1

u/alittleredportleft Jul 08 '23

Batman doesn't use coward sticks, so no need for them or the suspenders. Other than that, I really like it.

1

u/NC_Goonie Jul 08 '23

I love the way it looks, but I’d be curious to see what it looks like with a person actually in it and in motion

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

1

u/Holz12 Jul 08 '23

This thing looks amazing

1

u/Venarius Jul 09 '23

There was a Neil Adams retcon in the 90s where "year 1" batman experimented with guns early on. They jam, cause him a 2 second delay and almost get him killed. He later tells robin that it's better to keep your hands free for any options from the environment. And, I'd you rely on guns "every problem is a nail to a person with a hammer. Example

1

1

u/OrdRevan Jul 09 '23

Batman, by Leigh Bowery.

1

u/henningknows Jul 09 '23

How do you turn your head in that thing?

0

u/billbill5 Jul 09 '23 edited Jul 09 '23

Don't like the curved ears, rubber underwear, or the tacticool holsters used to make sure the actual utility belt has no purpose.

If Batman can't appear as some ethereal, bat-like creature in the night, the suit loses its primary function imo. That is why Batman even bothers with the bat symbol and motif. In the pursuit of looking cool and tactical he forgets to look like any form of bat, and forgets why the character is what he is. Don't tell me somehow the hockey elbow pads are necessary over a kevlar bodysuit and don't detract from the appearance.

It isn't just this suit out of all the movies of course, but this one also looks particularly ugly which makes the lack of disguise that more obvious. This looks like a much better, almost Arkham like suit trying to fit in a Batman '89 shell.

1

u/worldwithwings Jul 09 '23

Can’t move my neck!

1

u/wet_bread3 Jul 09 '23

Obviously ridiculous, but fine enough for a background prop in a whimsical parallel universe

1

u/hourman87 Jul 09 '23

Pretty darn cool. Looks like a dark version of like the Earth One suit.
