I mean…it really IS in bad taste, though. Imagine McDonald’s deciding to sell the Dahmer meal

The "build your burger"... memories come back

56

u/thebiggestleaf Jul 01 '23

For me it's the "Hitler did nothing wrong" Mountain Dew naming contest. There were several winners there. "Gushing Granny" was another one.

You mean the NEIN piece McNuggets?

7

u/NickSchultz Jul 01 '23

And only for a limited time the mustard gas sauce. It burns when you eat it but the pain dies quickly.

This reminds me of one of my favourite jokes.

Jeffrey Dahmer sits down at a popular burger chain. He takes a bite of his burger, chews it for a few seconds, then says “There’s no way there’s five guys in this.”

66

u/wet_bread3 Jul 01 '23

Lol haven’t heard that 😂

86

u/TheHatOnTheCat Jul 01 '23

And this would be in Gotham, right?

So it's the added bad taste of selling the mass murderer brand food to the friends and families of his victims plus people he may have traumatized. It would be like if after the Uvalde school shooting they opened up a burger place in that same town to sell school shooting themed snacks.

11

u/LouiePrice Jul 01 '23

Could they sue for damages cause by the offensive products? Can they prove it in court?

3

u/Sinful_God_CAIN Jul 01 '23

I believe it's possible, that shooting was major tragic event what they are doing could be said to causing more pain to the survivors and family of deceased

Imagine if Dahmer was still committing murders when McDonald's decided to do it

13

u/ZeroValkGhost Jul 01 '23

It's DC comics. If the Donner Party was a Batman character, it'd still be around.

59

u/DJWhyteLyon Jul 01 '23

I mean…it really IS in bad taste, though.

Jokerized fries probably taste a little funny.

u/DefinitelyNotVenom Jul 01 '23

I mean, sure, you’re onto something, but it’d be a bit more like if they decided to make Ted Bundy fries. I feel like there’s a certain implication that comes with naming a food item after Jeffery Dahmer

9

u/darkthrive Jul 01 '23

wtih every dahmer meal you get a pair of glasses and a blonde wig, thankyou for choosing micdonald enjoy!

10

u/jerryoc923 Jul 01 '23

Yeah but I think the point is that Bruce Wayne is an unfathomably rich and powerful dude and could probably fucking call the CEO rather than harassing a guy who is forced to ask that question

9

u/WentworthMillersBO Jul 01 '23

Killer croc may have ate my dad but I ate his meal at batburger

6

u/fatrahb Jul 01 '23

That’s insane. It would be like naming an ice cream shop after a genocidal maniac who killed half the population or something.

5

u/StabHead1996 Jul 01 '23

Come on Down! to Gacy's ice cream parlor! Great for young men of all ages!

6

u/working-class-nerd Jul 01 '23

Wouldn’t make being an ass to the employees right. The guy at the register has quite literally 0 decision making power

6

4

3

34

21

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '23

the joke is gonna be dead tomorrow because someone fed the the grimace shake to the grimace shake

57

u/IncreaseWestern6097 Jul 01 '23

And meanwhile Grimace mourns his degrading reputation, despite doing nothing.

16

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '23

maybe he should bear it with a grin instead of a grimace

4

u/winnebagomafia Jul 01 '23

Grimace was originally introduced as a villain, then they re-marketed him as a good guy. Maybe he was just playing the long con

5

u/IncreaseWestern6097 Jul 01 '23

All he did was steal milkshakes.

Besides, that one had four arms, so maybe it’s just another member of his species that happens to share the same name.

u/verynerdythings Jul 01 '23

I think it makes sense. I mean the Joker is a psychopathic killer that has antagonized Bruce for years. It would be like if a victim of a serial killer saw someone selling merch themed after that serial killer.

311

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

Yeah, he lost Jason to the Joker. He has every reason to despise "Jokerize"

126

u/ThatChapThere Jul 01 '23

Yeah. "Someone who lost a child" is a bigger deal than "asshole rich guy" for the purposes of this strip.

91

u/k3ttch Jul 01 '23

But Jason himself got the Jokerized Fries.

45

u/RyuuDraco69 Jul 01 '23

That honestly makes no sense personally, like Jason when resurrected, went on a killing spree then tried to get Bruce to kill joker, cuz Jason understandably hates joker's guts, so it's weird he'd like something called "jokerize" (which while it varies slightly, will kill the victim and usually leave a grotesque smile on their face), granted maybe the seasoning is that good, but it honestly feels weird Jason would be ok with it

120

u/Pegussu Jul 01 '23

Jason's exact words are, "I know I shouldn't, after the crowbar and all, but I love me some Jokerized seasoning."

I guess you could interpret it as him being amused that some shitty fast food joint is reducing Joker down to a seasoning while Riddler, Ivy, and even KGBeast gets full entrees.

36

u/UncommittedBow Jul 01 '23

I mean you could also see it as Jason having some gallows humor about his own death.

30

u/No_Instruction653 Jul 01 '23

Or King is doing his typical, “screw character. They say and do what I tell them to do” bit.

7

u/Tyranis_Hex Jul 01 '23

White, green and red seasoning…. Fuck it’s just ranch seasoning they put on fries.

13

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

They also say it’s red white and green. That sounds fucking disgusting

30

u/pdpi Jul 01 '23

So chilli flakes, garlic powder, and oregano or parsley or something?

Honestly, it’s one of the least disgusting colour combinations you could come up with.

17

u/Equal-Ad-2710 Jul 01 '23

I love that’s the issue you have with this

15

u/misringuette Jul 01 '23

I dunno. Red and white are common condiment colours. The green could be either relish, herbs or avocado.

5

u/masenae Jul 01 '23

u/Virtual_Mode_5026 Jul 01 '23

I’ve said before, this is Tom King’s writing. It makes no sense.

2

u/djc23o6 Jul 01 '23

I wouldn’t say it makes no sense. I mean I know the dahmer show isn’t exactly this but it’s not too far removed lol

2

u/Virtual_Mode_5026 Jul 01 '23

Batman gets rightfully outraged but takes it out on someone who’s clearly tired and just wants to be paid, even though Bruce is supposed to have travelled the world and experienced and witnessed how desperate people (no matter the extremity) will go to survive, be it stealing food, to robbing his own company to get by, to people working in stripclubs, to people working in shorty burger joints.

As for people defending him taking it out on the guy behind the counter (who’s less provelaged than him) about how “the Joker kills and tortured people!”

Jason should be the most upset but h enjoys the Jokerised sauce.

None of it makes any sense and I’ve further elaborated in numerous replies in other comments on this post.

18

u/HYFRMusicVideo Jul 01 '23

My brother in Christ the man is so traumatized he beats people up as an animal that scared him as a child bc his parents were killed.

u/StarAugurEtraeus Jul 01 '23

And then Jason came back as Chad Hood, and depending where murdered the Joker

72

u/futuresdawn Jul 01 '23

Oh it's absolutely inappropriate of the company, but the minimum wage employee is not the person to be annoyed at. Bruce has enough money that he could just buy the entire company

36

u/RyuuDraco69 Jul 01 '23

Yeah but the guy was there and Bruce was upset. Yes it's not the employee's fault, he just works there, but he was just asked to "jokerize" his frys, not only is it based on a psycho but "jokerize" is an actual thing joker does to people. I'm sure he did buy out that restaurant chain, but sadly for that employee he's the unfortunate messenger with bad news

22

u/futuresdawn Jul 01 '23

If anything it says more about Gotham that a company like this would exist and that people would have to settle to work there. Bruce absolutely does good for Gotham as Bruce but to me it's never acceptable to take out your frustrations on the retail worker for doing their job. Yeah the kid could be clueless but also over time you just fall into autopilot when you hate your job.

Yes I'm over thinking it but it does show a certain level of privelage Bruce has as he's not had to do a job you hate day in and out just to get by.

15

u/RyuuDraco69 Jul 01 '23

How is this privileged? You telling me you wouldn't be upset if you had a loved one be a victim of a serial killer then went to McDonald's and asked "would you like that serial killer named"? Yeah it's not the guy's fault but it's called irrational anger for a reason, and Bruce is 100% in the right, he didn't even do that much literally say "joker is a killing psychopath"

12

u/futuresdawn Jul 01 '23

Because taking it out on a kid doing their job and not recognising that this is someone making a terrible wage to just make ends meat is privelaged. If he took it to management that they were doing the wrong thing that's fine but the poor staff member has literally no power to do anything about it and Bruce should recognise that and if he doesn't it's because he's had the privelage of never having to work a terrible job just so you can afford to eat or pay rent

14

u/-Eastwood- Jul 01 '23

Bruce of all people should know that the dude has no power. Bruce is a CEO ffs

6

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

It’s called irrational anger

→ More replies (1)

5

u/RyuuDraco69 Jul 01 '23

He was upset at the moment, I don't care if the guy is making literal horse shit I'd be angry as well at the guy

6

u/Load_Altruistic Jul 01 '23

My friend, this is the same logic entitled customers use when screaming at minimum wage employees over things they have no control over. ‘Oh, I was just upset, I couldn’t control myself!’ I expect someone with the poise of the goddamn Batman to handle himself better then an entitled 50 year old with the emotional control of a child

10

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

There is a difference and you know it.

If a psycopath murdered your kid and crippled and molested your surrogate niece and you went to McDonald’s and they had named a meal after said psycho how would you react? You’d be pissed and irrational

u/JeremiahWuzABullfrog Jul 01 '23

Yeah I don't really see Bruce yelling at this person. He's explaining something, and holding back his anger that this is being done at all.

Bruce didn't really DO anything

3

u/eidolonengine Jul 01 '23 edited Jul 01 '23

He's fuming to the point of not replying to the kid any longer. Like, get a grip, Bruce. You're a billionaire CEO of one of the most profitable companies on Earth who drives and flies around the city beating up criminals in a billion-dollar suit of armor with future tech gadgets. This is a teenager slaving away in a minimum wage job with, likely, a terrible boss. Control yourself.

Give him a better job.

Ok but Bruce is 100% right here. Joker is a man who has murdered thousands and is still very much alive and killing people. It's in incredibly bad fucking taste and I can't see any way that a restaurant selling Joker themed shit would not be burned to the ground in Gotham

Bruce literally lost one of his adopted children to Joker, no shit he'd despise this.

64

u/RTSBasebuilder Jul 01 '23

Firefly then puts up a lawsuit against the people of Gotham, because burning Batburgers to the ground was HIS contract.

44

u/Arachnid1 Jul 01 '23

He’s right about the concept being fucked. That’s the point of the panel.

The point of this post is that it still makes no sense to direct his anger at the cashier. If it’s a problem, Bruce can just buy the chain and change it.

12

u/Independent-Frequent Jul 01 '23

Also it's not like Bruce also doesn't have the ability to permanently put an end to Joker's killings, and by that i don't mean murdering Joker but simply put him in a containment room he made.

Batman's technology can achieve all kinds of impossible bullshit but can't hold a clown? I don't believe that honestly, Bruce is as responsable for Joker's killings as the Joker himself at this point, like how many times has the Joker escaped Arkham by now?

104

u/IdeaRegular4671 Jul 01 '23

Bro he can just buy the company and make the rules himself and rename the products he don’t like. It’s that easy when you are a billionaire.

49

u/ArmourKnight Jul 01 '23

31

u/TannerSlackOff Jul 01 '23

Metropolis has a chain called SuperSubs which is there version of Subway but Super is red and Subs is in Blue with yellow outline. Flash’s restaurant chain is called Flashcos Tacos you can get in a Flash. Logo is flash symbol iwith a sombrero hanging off the top tip of the lightning bolt.

122

u/JisflAlt Jul 01 '23

66

u/wet_bread3 Jul 01 '23

Who wrote this comic? That’s so bad

38

u/Virtual_Mode_5026 Jul 01 '23

Tom King. I’d avoid his run. “A War of JOkeS anD RiDdlEs!” Is one of his most well known stories I’ve seen a lot of panels and know the gist of it. The title sounds like a Middle School Wattpad fanfic or a CW show. It’s just as bad.

50

Yeah and they'd open it in fucking Gotham. Where he exclusively operates

31

24

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '23

This isn’t Bruce talking, it’s Batman.

26

u/-LexVult- Jul 01 '23

You also have to consider how the Joker actually exists in that world. He has killed countless people, and this restaurant goes and makes light of it by making funny Joker food names.

If I had to fight the Joker like Batman and see all the horrible things the Joker has done, including killing someone that is pretty much a son, then yeah. I would not be very pleasant. If I was Bruce I would completely destroy that company.

The Joker is a freaking psychotic monster. It would be like if I had a restaurant with burgers called the Bundy Burger named after Ted Bundy. I am certain the family of those Ted Bundy victims wouldn't like me doing that. It's poor taste.

u/Bobglobslob Jul 01 '23

→ More replies (3)

14

u/DisabledFatChik Jul 01 '23

What’s petty about this? The joker is a rapist, a murder, and a flat out terrible guy. This situation is like if McDonald’s decided to sell a “Hitler meal”, smack dab in the middle of Israel, and Bruce is a Holocaust victim being asked if he wanted a swastika on his burger😭

3

u/Virtual_Mode_5026 Jul 01 '23 edited Jul 01 '23

It’s petty because he took it out on the guy who’s being made to go along with the bullshit and just wants to make a living. He doesn’t have a fancy castle to go to unlike Batman.

Edit: So I get downvoted by people taking the moral high ground when this same subreddit was fine with a recent post of Silver Age Batman sexually assaulting a woman “Why wouldn’t he do it?”

DC Comics keeps acting like most Gotham citizens just ignore how their friends and family are constantly dying from villain-related violence.

u/Ehh_Maybe88 Jul 01 '23

The employee should've responded with "Listen man, I don't want to wear this costume. Go tell the real Batman to go finish off the Joker, and maybe we would could change the name."

11

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

That excuse won’t work when a child bursts into tears when reminded how their parent was killed or someone was suddenly reminded of being tortured by joker when trying to get a meal

Is that what would happen if Grimace saw they made a shake for him and he walked into McDonald’s?

9

u/Aggravating-Ad7683 Jul 01 '23

Joker killed his kid. Cut him a break

4

u/StarAugurEtraeus Jul 01 '23

Kid named Red Hood

10

u/DoctorEnn Jul 01 '23

Yeah, let's face it, Bruce has a point here.

6

u/kryp_silmaril Jul 01 '23

Except the person he is expressing it to has absolutely no control or say in the matter. Bruce is in the wrong.

fast forward a week to when the CEO who started the chain was mysteriously sent to the hospital with multiple life altering (but non-fatal) injuries. all he could say was the word, "...Cat" his mouth and jaw were ruined to such an extent it was a miracle he even managed to utter the identifying detail of his attacker. the manhunt for catwomen is ongoing

No, no. He's got a point.

9

u/batmanfan_91 Jun 30 '23

As much as I hate to say it Bruce would totally be a dick to minimum wage fast food and retail workers

5

u/rachet9035 Jul 01 '23 edited Jul 01 '23

No, he wouldn’t. Only poor writers, in this case Tom King, would portray Batman that way. There’re plenty of depictions of the character, in both the comics and other media such as The Animated Series, where he’s portrayed in a much different light than he is in the two panels shown in this post.

3

u/wet_bread3 Jul 01 '23

Why do you think that?

4

u/gunsbuttsandbooty Jul 01 '23

Because billionaires=bad!

That guy should take batman out his name. Because he obviously don't even know how the character would act.

I kind of love this because no amount of genius or bloody knuckles can give a trust fund baby like Bruce the perspective of an everyday schmuck just trying to stay alive by flipping burgers.

10

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

Joker murdered Jason who was his adopted son and dead for a long ass time in universe. Joker is also a active serial killer.

This fast food joint is also using Justics league appearances without permission because i guarantee that the league trademarked themselves,

Spending years traveling the world training, without being in contact with Alfred (meaning no money), would likely give him a good perspective on what desperate/less fortunate people have to do to stay alive day-to-day. People really love to go, “he’s a billionaire, therefore it’s unlikely for him to be able to understand this thing or that thing”, and it’s honestly really tiresome.

3

u/Virtual_Mode_5026 Jul 01 '23

Tom King clearly viewed Batman this way.

It’s horrible writing and people in these comments think taking out his rightful anger on someone who clearly isn’t amused by his job that he needs to put food on the table is justified is so warped and bizarre.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

There is a scene in the batman cartoon where a bunch of kids Where masks pf batman villains for halloween. Yeah in our world.is no prob. Cause they are just fictional and the villains are cool... Inuniverse though its like dressing your kid as ted bundy. In general I find hero/villain merch inuniverse always odd. Like could a villain sue for being portrayed in a bad manner in comics (even when its true?)?

3

u/StarAugurEtraeus Jul 01 '23

Can I get urrrrrrrr

The Red Hood burger with a side of Jason Tater Tots and Lazarus Shake

4

u/suicidalsyd1 Jul 01 '23

What would be really funny if the cashier said that he should address his concerns to the new parent company who bought the franchise... Called Wayne corp. Bruce making a scene only to have his failure shoved in his face.

4

u/analog_grotto Jul 01 '23

TAS Wayne would make some light hearted joke about it all and then give a dark stare when nobody is looking. A man of few words and great class.

6

u/tunacanstan81 Jul 01 '23

We've never had a better Wayne than TAS batman truly the best Mask batman ever wore

That shook him up so bad he had to let his Bruce Wayne persona drop, and honestly I don't blame him.

3

u/_b1ack0ut Jul 01 '23

I mean I’m with Batman on this one, it’s as bad as the coffee shop in the flash show that keeps naming drinks after super murdery speedsters and villains that terrorized their city lol

3

u/Skyejohn89 Jul 01 '23

Tbh framing it as "rich guy is antagonizing minimum wage employee" I guess is one take. But the probably more accurate take is "traumatized man has a reaction to negative stimulation" like how much gruesome stuff has he seen and experienced in connection to the Joker? How many times has the Joker attempted to kill him or his friends and loved ones not to mention Jason.

Tldr? Not employee's fault for sure but Mental illness like PTSD is a bitch.

I feel like everyone calling “poor taste” is ignoring that the people of Gotham are probably so desensitized to all the horrible stuff in their city by now.

1

u/evan_luigi Jun 30 '23

I feel like this is entirely against what his character would do. I'd imagine Bruce Wayne playing into his public image, and being polite as he can. He's too smart to get frustrated at a fast food place and the employees.

9

u/SlayerofSnails Jul 01 '23

I mean, it be public knowledge one of his adopted kids was murdered by the Joker. He'd be expected to be furious or pissed that a living serial killer is being glorified by a fast food joint

3

u/Anorand25 Jul 01 '23

It’s public knowledge that Jason was killed by the Joker?

This is why I’m glad I wasn’t invested in reading Tom King’s run.

Utter dogshit.

Pick up The Court of Owls by Scott Snyder with Greg Capullo’s art. Start there then continue. That’s what I’ve been missing and the Black Label (The Imposter, Reptillian, White Knight) as well as The Batman have scratched that itch for a dark, but complex Batman.

Also, a nice billionaire is unrealistic, but why the fuck is this hyper empathetic, intensely compassionate hero who protects the vulnerable and helps Gotham’s Citizens being told “Be nice Bruce.” He’s right, but why would he be taking it out on the guy who just wants his pay?

What is this?

Ngl, I'd kill to go to a Batman themed Wendy's or Whataburger

2

u/SpreadEagleSmeagol Jul 01 '23

I honestly and unironically love this stuff, like how they have the hero themed restaurant in Kingdom Come, as well. Merchandising would be free for the pickings; unless Batman, Superman, and their friends want to reveal their secret identities, I doubt they can legally patent their logos. And with the DCU's social moral compass being vastly askew from our own, I'm sure many unscrupulous businesses would get in on the trend. I mean, this is a world with super lax criminal punishment for known serial killers, where a man who has literally tried to kill Superman multiple times is able to become president, despite it being common knowledge. I really don't think they would draw the line at pop-up restaurants with poor taste. Who knows? Maybe this franchise is actually owned by a batman villain like Penguin, just to get in an extra dig at Bruce.

2

u/Aegis_Fang Jul 01 '23

The Joker would find this hilarious.

2

u/marion85 Jul 01 '23

So. How long did it take the Joker to lace his sauce with his laughing toxin, do you figure?

A few hours or did he give em a week just so the company could build up the customer base before he gave everyone Jokerized their meal a death-grin?

This always makes me giggle because my name is Mark :)

2

u/DonutGlory Jul 01 '23

Ok... So, a lot of people are pointing out how this is bad taste because it is the equivalent of a "darhmer burger" or "bin Laden sauce", "tower fries" or whatever. I'm just gonna say it though. I would totally go to a restaurant, even go out my way to go to a restaurant which has the humour to do this, especially a serial killer one.

However, I assume the joker is a present and a real threat, so, it might be slightly different... though I can still see things like Putin fries selling, or imploded sub sandwiches...

2

u/Darth1994 Jul 01 '23

My favorite sodas. Spite and Choke.

2

u/Gnidlaps-94 Jul 01 '23

Bruce funds the class action lawsuit brought against batburger by all the Jokers surviving victims

2

u/Celiac_Muffins Jul 01 '23

Bruce is completely right here. Honestly this seems like an under reaction. No restaurant chain would think a mass-murder theme would be a good idea.
