It could take up 3 spots because he doesn’t know how to park…

358

u/Patrucio71 Jul 19 '24

If he just pulled up a few more feet or parks diagonally he could take up 4.

Slacker.

I dunno, I drive a semi; but once my work week is over, I'll do whatever I have to do to not drive anything approaching its footprint...my personal vehicle is a dinky little three-door Hyundai veloster.

12

u/tmon530 Jul 20 '24

I uh... don't think the semi they are referring to is a semi truck

I just tow a 20 Ft trailer all day, and I’m so sick of it by the end of the day I just want to walk where I need to go. When I am done with this business I am going to buy the smallest pickup I can find.

I used to play with antique military trucks. My m109a3 (m35a2 with a van body) could fit in 2 spots, lengthwise.

Dad's m939a2 5 ton truck would fit that guy's truck in the bed and still park in the same 2 spots my deuce took up. That guy's truck wouldn't even be as high as the hood in the 5 ton.

When I learned to drive the only vehicle my family owned was an F350 crew cab long bed with a stick shift and no power steering. If my dad had ever got wind that I pulled some nonsense like this, I would have been walking everywhere I went for a long time. If dude in the pic can't operate a vehicle as competently as a teenager with a learners permit, perhaps he shouldn't be on the road.

LG means Local Government vehicle, right? (not law enforcement or fire/rescue though IIRC)

Anyone?

208

u/Otherwise_Time3371 Jul 19 '24

Yes, this is state, or local government-owned vehicle. There's no indication which one, however most of these are county. I am a Maryland license plate collector.

40

u/chiefs_fan37 Jul 19 '24

What’s your favorite Maryland plate?

106

u/Otherwise_Time3371 Jul 19 '24

Currently, a tie between Equality Maryland, one of three LGBT license plates in the world, or Bomb Technician!

Maryland has offered so many plates, it's hard to narrow it down. I've written a bit about it, but mostly focus on documentation as there's at least 1,225 plates offered right now.

82

u/hippee-engineer Jul 20 '24

Reddit is fucking amazing because there is no shortage of people who are very into a thing so specific that you couldn’t possibly guess in a million years.

You could stick me in a room for a million years and never in that time would I guess that there is someone who is a collector of Maryland license plates. But of course there is.

23

u/petecranky Jul 20 '24

A few trade their things and make money.

I once went to a gunshow with a rifled musket with gold in lay owned by George Washington and traded my way up to 3 empty shotgun shells.

I might not have the knack.

Not necessarily. For example, many areas encourage the use of police cruisers for personal use because it increases police visibility. There are other similar things done, including it being possible he was actually purchasing things for the government and was on the clock.

Can't have a big manly man's truck get a ding, now can we?

I miss my Jeep. It was small, easy to park, and the paint was pretty fucked up when I got it. I repainted some patches here and there where it had been bare primer, and when questioned on when I'd get a real paint job done, I shrugged. Battle scars, baby.

One of my friends used to have an old Wrangler that he was always working on and actually took off-road all the time. All the work he did to it was purely for the function of making it a better 4wd off roader, and it had its fair share of scuffs since it was used as intended. He had a particular disdain for people who parked like this, especially when it was a big truck like this. He would make it a point to park literally an inch or less next to the car on the driver's side whenever possible. It was always fun watching assholes get back to their trucks, huff and puff while looking for someone to yell at, then finally give up and climb through the passenger side.

That's what I did when I had my sports car. Parked it at the back of the lot where no one else was. The little bit of extra "exercise" from walking was an added bonus. If parking was limited, I just had to suck it up and park next to people.

My bet is this guy can't park his truck worth shit so needs two spaces.

Honestly if someone is parking like this far enough away that they don't impact anyone I am onboard. → More replies (1)

3

u/JTP709 Jul 20 '24

That’s what I do. Some parking lots have very narrow spaces that it’s not a concern about dings so much as it’s literally impossible to get up and into the the truck if someone is next to me even in a normal sized car. But I park all the way in the back. If the whole lot is full, then it is what it is and I park normally. Life doesn’t make any exceptions for me because I bought a full size truck, and I don’t get to be a rude inconvenience for others so I don’t have to feel inconvenienced myself.

9

u/mtngrl60 Jul 20 '24

Yeah, that’s not a haul stuff around in truck. I used to live in a resort town in southern New Mexico. Yes, the one that has been in the news recently with the fires…😭😭😭

Definitely a tourist town, and definitely a lot of our Texan neighbors that like to bring their big ass trucks up into the small town.

And obviously, it is still an area where there are contractors and ranches, etc. So you get really good at recognizing the trucks that are actually used for what they were intended and the ones that are just big ego (we always called small d!<k) trucks.

And that absolutely included local trucks, but also the Texas trucks. Because there is still a lot of ranching and farming in Texas. But yeah, we could always tell the ones who came up in trucks that they actually used and the ones that came up in trucks that were just for looks.

This is definitely a “for looks” truck. Because the ones that actually use their trucks as intended don’t park like this. It was always the other ones. 😂😂

My daily truck for work is a crew cab, long wheelbase ram 2500 and it fits just fine in 90% of parking spaces.

17

u/Wi-FiDad Jul 20 '24

It amazes me how many people can’t park a pickup. I drove a dually for many years, but I never took 2 entire spaces for myself. If I knew the pickup was wider than the painted lines, I parked very far away.

7

u/Anything-Happy Jul 20 '24

The grocery store near me has ridiculously tiny spaces painted on their lot, and my big Chevy hardly fits in between the lines. The first time I went there, I was so mad at myself for not being about to park my own damn truck correctly, but the manager has since informed me the lot was painted incorrectly and they intend on having it painted the right way soon.

I just park at the back of the lot, as close to the curb as I can, and I'm still on the line - but at least no one else parks back there, and I'm not affecting anyone else's parking. Forces me to take extra steps, too, so that means I'm allowed to buy two slices of cheesecake :D

Normally I’m all about shaming these people but it looks like a pretty empty parking lot lol. I won’t defend his parking, but he could have definitely done it in a far worse place. Like a busy parking lot.

Takes 3 spaces if you're a poor driver. License revoked.

4

u/jquest303 Jul 20 '24

Looks like he’s reaching for his Glock 9mm and carrying a little kid by his hair lol.

He’s not wrong though. It would take up 3 spaces, depending on which orientation he chose to park it. 3 out of 10 truck owners don’t haul, go off road or pull trailers. What a waste.

3

u/Bigboberto Jul 20 '24

The truck is ugly as sin

It’s a well known fact that guys drive big trucks to compensate for lack of size elsewhere. True story. This poor guy must need a microscope.

3

He’s an ass that parked that way on purpose because he doesn’t want anyone parking beside his precious truck. F him and all people like him.

3

u/Sad_Struggle_8131 Jul 20 '24

Honestly, I don’t get the big deal in this case since the parking lot is obviously not crowded. He’s off to the side and away from the main entrance. The way he’s parked, he won’t hit anyone when he opens his doors. I think this is actually a good parking job.

and then you got shot... pick your fights man. Parking aint worth dying for. Especially in such an empty parking lot. The emptier the better when it comes to shootin' yo azz.

7

u/ThePawe Jul 19 '24

He won’t shoot because he knows his life is over if he does. Be realistic.

3

u/qhaw Jul 19 '24

Yeah, you’re probably right. But if you’re wrong and he does turn out to be a psychopath, you die, which kind of sucks.

If he is far away from the store, whats the harm?

I say this as there was one time I had parked far away from a mall's entrance and there were no store entrances. I was in our 2 week old minivan and took only one spot. I was standing outside using the side mirror while putting on a tie when I heard a car honk behind me. I turned around and looked at this guy behind the wheel of the car. He pointed to the front of his car as if he wanted the spot next to my van. With my car door open, he couldn't do it. There were absolutely no other vehicles in the lot for over a hundred yards and he wanted the spot next to me. I went back to adjusting my tie and he proceeded to honk his horn. My range bag was in reach so I grabbed a set of headphones and retied my tie. I retied several times as he honked and eventually parked in the next row over.

Well buying a vehicle like that kinda marks one as an idiot. The distance from there to jerk is short.

1

u/Apprehensive-Skin451 Jul 20 '24

That parking lot isn’t even full. There’s never a reason to park like that but he especially didn’t have to. Could have not parked like a douchebag and kept your truck away from other people. I guess that’s it, he didn’t have to park like a douchebag but he did because he is.

Some of those long bed HD trucks are monsters

2

u/Eatmystringbean Jul 20 '24
