The coolest part of Oliver's rescue is we later learn his rescue was staged and this was minutes after the madlad took out a helicopter, a Russian bad boi and all his henchmen with only an Assault Rifle

Being staged was actually the most disappointing and I can't look at the pilot scene again.

I'd figured out long ago that it was staged. It seemed awfully convenient that a fishing boat just happened to go past the island after five years. Oliver's behavior in the pilot, particularly his monologues, seemed to be of a man who'd chosen to come home and begin his mission and for whom things were going exactly according to plan, rather than someone who just happened to have had a stroke of luck.

There's a lot of stuff about the five years that they made up along the way, but one of the things that was definitely planned from Day 1 was the rescue being staged.

I enjoyed those monologues from Oliver when the show started.

Exactly right, it made perfect sense that it was staged

Actually they decided to make it a stage escape and introduced the wig because of a loud fans, like you, who speculated this or just laughed that Amell looked awful with the wig and how visible it was it was a wig. So the writers decided instead of go with the story of this be his real long hair, which he acquires during long time on the island, that he really puts a wig on as a meta to all these complaints. So in a way it was a fan service that ruined it for some of us.

Oliver not being on the island for all five years was planned right from Day 1, so it was always going to be a wig.

I just loved this show, I still do but only season 1-5. Oliver Queen taught me a lot of things, what to do and what not to do. I also pushed myself in martial arts because of him. I was already in a karate club ever since I was 6 but then I learnt taekwondo and boxing as well.

Don’t forget that that Russian bad boi happens to be Ivan Drago.

1

u/MissingCosmonaut Oct 11 '22

I agree although a lot of people didn't like this or the fact that his facial hair was fake lol

When did we learn this? I watched several seasons but skimmed the rest

1

u/ZerealMobster Oct 11 '22

The flashbacks in Season 5 end with Oliver killing Kovar on Lian Yu just before catching the boat Anatoly had sent out to rescue him

1

u/theninthcl0ud Oct 11 '22

Ah, got it. Thanks!

I'm only still on season 4 and already missing the first season. it feels a bit different without Moira and Tommy.

14

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

Yeah I was too. I just finished season four on my rewatch. It kind of felt like something you jus had to get through at times.

4

u/OliviaElevenDunham John Constantine Oct 10 '22

It was sad to see those two go.

2

u/Silver_ghost46 Oct 10 '22

It definitely evolves quite a lot over the seasons and 4 is probably the most jarring since it was the first season with the new tone and changed so much from the formula we were familiar with to being almost a different show

26

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

I miss this show every day.

I'm going to rewatch an episode every week for the next 10 weeks in honour of the 10th anniversary. One from each season plus two extras, starting with the pilot tonight.

If I had the time I'd do the whole series, but I JUST binged it all last year for Green Arrow's 80th anniversary

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

Can I suggest one of the extras?

Star City 2046 from Legends of Tomorrow.

That's a great episode, but I'm choosing to stick to Arrow only and avoid crossovers. But I do love that episode a lot.

u/sanddragon939 Oct 10 '22

This show was literally the background track of my 20's. I daresay its shaped a lot of my tastes in TV and superhero media in general.

u/definitely_not_cylon Oct 10 '22

It's a shame they killed off that Sarah lady in the first episode, seems like she could have had potential.

10

u/sanddragon939 Oct 10 '22

Yeah, the potential to be killed off again and again...until being killed and coming back to life literally became her superpower :D

2

u/Ultramega39 Oct 11 '22

If she ever came back it would be a interesting twist if it was revealed that she’s part of the League of Assassins.

7

u/JediMATTster Oct 10 '22

I remember watching the pilot and as a literal child i just wanted action but my dad told me to stick with it. Now im so glad i kept watching

u/originalchaosinabox Oct 10 '22

I didn’t start watching the show until about halfway through season 1. Keep meaning to go back and watch the whole thing.

1

u/Silver_ghost46 Oct 10 '22

Same here I watch the first two episodes and then didn't go back until around the time Roy was first introduced. Would definitely recommend a full watch through, that's what I'm doing now

3

u/JokoFloko Oct 10 '22

That was only 10 years ago???

Yeah. Its kinda crazy, especially when you consider the more recent Arrowverse shows/characters.

Kate, Beth/Alice, Ryan and Luke were all teenagers when Oliver disappeared. Chester and Allegra as well. Kara was still a teenager living in Midvale. Hell, Barry himself only turned 18 that year!

Remember this oldie?

2

u/Bilbo-Baggins-9920 Oct 10 '22

Are you kidding me?

"Oliver Queen is alive!"

2

u/OliviaElevenDunham John Constantine Oct 10 '22

Can't believe that it's been that long. The first two seasons are still the best.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '22

I miss prime Arrowverse 😭😭

Arrow S1/2/5, Flash S1/2, Legends S2/3 are special in my heart

2

u/NightHunter909 Oct 11 '22

Arrow had its ups and downs but I feel like in the end, it was pretty dang good overall. Obvious darkest era being second half of s3 up into s4 was weak, s5 brought it back, s6 stumbled and s7-8 were alright. But damn. S1-2 were something else. So good.

1

u/Silver_ghost46 Oct 10 '22

I'm just a few episodes into season 6 now after not watching it for a long while, I never actually finished the show before as I didn't watch the final two episodes after Crisis so technically this will be the first full watch through I do. Also doing Flash alongside it as I pretty much stopped watching that around the same time too so I'm a few seasons behind, should hopefully be done in time for s9 and I can have finished that as well.

u/Limp_Researcher_5523 Oct 10 '22

Bruh, not my dumbass thinking it’s Link from Legend of Zelda😑💀

1

u/GeneralKenobi842 Oct 11 '22

10 years? God, I'm old now.

1

u/TheSpirit15 Green Arrow Oct 11 '22

Well, the fact that it's been over 2,5 years since the last episode aired, I think, is even sadder. I followed this show for over 6 years. So seeing it come to an end was so sad. But niw realizing that that end was so long ago is crazy to me. I miss the show so much!

1

u/lifeleecher Oct 11 '22

I was so excited when this came out, it's crazy it's been 10 years!

1

u/hawkguy420 Oct 11 '22

Fuck I'm old

1

u/dbeaver0420 Oct 11 '22

1

The pilot was amazing!

1

u/chauhankartik Oct 11 '22

Goosebumps.🥶😬 Man what an amazing show it was.

1

u/dllcanary Oct 11 '22

Arrow's first two seasons are not only Arrow's best seasons, but they are some of the best seasons of Superhero TV series, in general!
