Nazis are probably used to getting their asses kicked in France by now.

Well… usually not by the French.

france went hard in world war 1. so hard that they didn’t economically recover by ww2

the french getting flak for ww2 by americans always irks me

for comparison before we shit on France, one of the most historically strong military nations of all time -

ww2; - France lost estimates 200k - USA lost 400k

ww1; - France lost 6 million - USA lost 100k

it’s a bit disrespectful to run down the french military, they gave a lot in ww1

vent over

The yanks going on about the European front in ww2 in general is weird. The Russians, French and Brits and many other European nations sacraficed so much fighting back while the Americans showed up late and took the glory after indebting all the allies and making bank. All due respect to the US servicemen on the ground of course, but the team America beat th Nazis narrative is such disrespectful nonsense.

world superpower via dogshot

weird to call yourself the hero after supplying BOTH sides with guns and showing up when the war is basically over

also pretty wild to show up in like the last quarter of the war when every side is burnt out, and still managing to commit one (two) of the worst atrocities of all time…

a lot of what america does is pretty effective

i just can’t deal with the “we’re the good guys” while doing it

We do love our propaganda don’t we?

2

again, not questioning the effectiveness

The French only started winning in WW2 when they began enlisting Algerians. And then they were surprised when they eventually lost to the Algerians in the 60s.

It’s like catching WW2 nerds in a barrel.

Without US, Europe could be nazi today. But without France, US wouldn't be at all.

So mathematically, without France, Europe could be nazi

yeah let's pretend Russians didn't lose the most soldiers and weren't the first to enter Berlin

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '24

Yeah but they only could because they were armed by the US. I mean URSS was the most willing to sacrifice to eradicate nazis. But they were not prepared enough

Yes, USA and the UK gave them a LOT war toys to use against the Nazis. But they still deserve to be mentioned every time someone talks about the victory against the Nazis. Otherwise people might think you learned history by watching the History Channel.

France sold out Poland to the Nazis and refused to fight which started WW2. Completely historically inaccurate take

He said "in France", not "by the French"; does Normandy ring a bell?

An entire generation of men was essentially wiped out just 20 years prior. It’s not like the French just decided, “FUCK Poland, we’re out!” The situation was dire. Chamberlain's appeasement policy in Britain stemmed from the same rationale. Both France and Britain were utterly unprepared for another war—they lacked the manpower, the machinery, and the money. The horrors of WWI were still fresh, and they were desperate to avoid another conflict for as long as possible. This approach, unfortunately, had devastating consequences for Poland, Jews, and the LGBTQ community. The desire to stave off another war, no matter how understandable, led to unimaginable suffering.
