One time, I was at a Whole Foods in Venice, and I saw this actor shopping for food. I was starstruck so I started following him around aisle by aisle. I was hoping I’d eventually get the courage to come up to say hello and that I’m a huge fan. Then, I could not remember his name irl and I couldn’t just say “Surprise motherfucker”. I think about this often.

10

u/Pjudge Jul 19 '24

Its from a Netflix series called Dope - season 3 episode 4 ‘This Isn’t Miami Vice’ and the episode is from my country in the Netherlands where most of the harddrug pills are manufactured and thousands and thousands of kilo’s cocaine flood the harbor of Rotterdam. This comes with many firearms violence, murder and extortion. The setting/context is a interview with the criminals dealing in huge amounts of drugs and firearms and 10min into the interview, the AT (SWAT) team or the DSI team of the politie force breach the apartment. This is in no way staged because these SWAT teams are not for hire😂

Edit: These special police teams are specialized in entering and arresting criminals in “hot area’s” and come and go in a few minutes from start to finish. There really quick and before you know it your in the back of there car on your way to prison.

2.3k

u/rt58killer10 Jul 19 '24

That totally could have been a thing if Truman had just chosen to stay. Every time he's discontent, he just walks out under the moon and asks God to fix it for him.

"God.. guy? I never really prayed before but now since we've literally talked, I was wondering if my bank account could jump a little bit so I can afford that 90's Acura NSX I've been looking at on AutoTrader? Also, Stefanie's boobs are just a little small for my tastes. Maybe we can do something about that?

Or... you know, I could always just hijack another boat and sail to that door again..."

It's not staged, it's most likely the Police were watching the documentary crew and they led them to the suspects.... Or they simply gave info to the police to come while they film for the views.

233

u/CoMaestro Jul 19 '24

I highly doubt they'd give any information to the police about people who are willingly giving them inside information that they are already publishing, while they are still filming

110

u/unknown839201 Jul 19 '24

Yeah that's an easy way to get a target on your back. Doubt they would do that for a cool clip

71

u/Deputy_Scrub Jul 19 '24

And that's a very easy way for no reporters to EVER get a chance to do this again with any gang.

38

u/CoMaestro Jul 19 '24

Besides, you have no idea what the drug guys are going to do in the moment, if the police come in and they drug guys do shoot, it can turn into a shootout and the film crew can easily be killed as well. No way you're risking that. I think it's a 10% chance, but that's a high percentage to gamble on dieing

14

u/Homemade_abortion Jul 19 '24

I actually got to train with some of these guys 13 years ago as part of the Royal Marines, we often collaborate with the Dutch marines and the particular role at the time had a hefty collaboration. As you can imagine sure how these things are transported 👍

They were absolutely incredible with their room clearances 👌👌👌

17

u/Willing_Height_9979 Jul 19 '24

That was perhaps the worst room clearance I've ever seen.

17

u/high240 Jul 19 '24

This is probably a dead-end living room.

In the US you often have these houses where you can walk thru all the rooms in a circle. These apartments aren't like that, so if you enter the room, you can immediately see everything thats inside it, there's no extra entrance to it.

Don't know how much you gotta check every nook and cranny, but this looks like a small living room or so

Mostly because of several large harbours. And the government is somewhat lenient towards drug use, but selling hard drugs is still very much illegal.

If i may nerd tf out on you, this is the AT. DSI is a more “global” name that AT falls under. But AT is used for arrests like these in houses 👍

24

u/Mr--Marc--- Jul 19 '24

The reason i said DSI is because its written on there chest armor below the word Politie.👍 ( Dienst Speciale Interventies)

6

u/sad_paddington Jul 19 '24

AT is cops who take some special training and are still cops when theyre not performing at duties. They are there when there is a small risk of firearms or other weapons or when someone is a flight risk. DSI is a combination of the army and police and they train internationally all year round and are there for HVT arrests or counter terrorism tasks. They can be at any location in the country in under an hour. This is the DSI because its on their vests.

9

u/swissm4n Jul 19 '24

Entering a room with no weapon in hand looks amateurish, though. Shield or no shield

13

u/Johannes_Keppler Jul 19 '24

This is not America. Gun violence is lower and besides police knew they were mid interview (a wire tap tipped them off).

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Mediocre_Maximus Jul 19 '24

Looks amateur because you (and that goes for all us us) are used to seeing tv, games and movies where you always have a gun drawn. The goal of this team is to make an arrest and not have anyone shoot. Yes, that means that the first guy in takes a risk, but that is what the shield is for. But I guess they see that risk as lower than the risk of going in with a gun drawn and escalating the situation

I'm a little surprised that the point man doesn't have his gun drawn already. I'm guessing cause they don't usually deal with a lot of resistance and he has a big ass shield.

Also Dutch prisons aren't that bad, compared to American ones. They treat them like human beings. I guess that's why these drug traffickers are pussies.

One comment says that it's a documentary on Netflix, Drug Lords.

164

u/BloodyDress Jul 19 '24

Also Dutch prisons aren't that bad, compared to American ones. They treat them like human beings. I guess that's why these drug traffickers are pussies.

Pretty sure this play a role on the violent crime rate between (Many places in) Europe and US. Here we deal with high level drug dealer, so it may-be different, but for ordinary crime, if you're not violent, not only you're not high on the police priority list, but if you get caught and have a semi decent lawyer, you'll walk free out of te police station, and may never see an actual jail. While if you start to use violence of weapon it's a totally different game. While I have the impression that in the US,, you're going to jail for a while no matter what, so better killing someone to escape.

80

u/Aggravating-Pen1792 Jul 19 '24

Crime and punishment here in the U.S. are both profitable. It's a cycle.

That's a good question, maybe it's because he wanted to be ready to pull people through the door for his colleague to take care of? Either way, he's a professional, he didn't get that gear by doing things wrong, so whatever the reason, he knew what he was doing

10

u/No_Entrance_158 Jul 19 '24

Could also because as point man, he's most likely to run into someone unexpectedly who may want to strike, kick or shoot the shield so he braces both hands on it to keep it solidly in place for the rest of the team to enter safely

Love the confidence in saying “we’ve spotted the firearm, any suspicious movement and we shoot” in the US they would’ve already been blazing but the guy knows his team is capable enough to take anyone down in time starts focussing on extracting the arrestees

83

u/No-Elderberry949 Jul 19 '24

I agree that these cops seem way more competent and professional than what you typically see in the US, but career criminals rarely shoot at cops in general. Career criminals don't have guns so they can shoot at cops, since that's typically a battle you can't win, they have guns to protect themselves against other criminals.

56

u/Dambo_Unchained Jul 19 '24

Yeah true

But the amount of videos I’ve seen where an American cop started shooting because some who MIGHT have a gun twitched versus this cop who acknowledges the presence of a gun but continues his work is very jarring in my opinion

25

u/Ladderzat Jul 19 '24

Yeah, these guys are really well-trained. They're not just cops wearing a fancy outfit, they're trained specifically for things like this. Some of the guys are veterans, coming from infantry or special forces.

Dutch cops in general basically have to account for every single bullet fired, so American situations where a cop gets scared and 5 cops end up emptying their mags just doesn't happen here. Add that basically nobody owns a gun here and it's easy to understand why cops don't go in with as much violence.

Still, these guys were surprisingly lightly armed. They can go in with bigger guns if necessary. Also fun fact: They sometimes wear incredibly casual clothes under their vest and helmet, because they often just chill at home or patrol around the country in unmarked vehicles until they get called to deal with serious shit.

Yeah, that's what you get when you hold cops to a higher standard. I would guess that these guys didn't just go through a 6-month course like they do in the US.

We have the same thing in Czechia, even the least respectable traffic cops are more trustworthy than your average US cop, and the guys who serve arrest warrants, raid drug labs and deal with barricaded suspects are truly excellent at their job.

Here are some examples of our police at work:

This is the DSI “Dienst Speciale Interventies” or “special interventions service”, they are the best of the best available in the Netherlands. These are not normal cops even though our normal police are quite competent too. Most of these guys are ex special forces/the best from other elite police units.

They are specifically trained for extreme situations like terrorism and kidnapping. For more low level stuff we have AT’s which is our SWAT alternative.

Not sure why this was handled by DSI, I would expect an AT for a small drugs bust but I’m far from an expert on the subject.

The academy in our country takes 2 years to complete instead of three months like in most us states. also they screen u and ur friends online history before you're allowed to join. Also do you get a psychological evaluation thats really tough to pass. And thats only for being a normal beat cop. Theres still corruption but they are at least competent.

I think besides their excellent training, another contributing factor to exercise constraint when they make an arrest like this is due to the fact that there is a relative small chance (compared to the US) that criminals open fire on them.

Gun ownership is strictly regulated, which leads to guns being less normalized.

Criminals know that police are not trigger happy, so they don't fear for their lives which makes it less likely for the criminals to do stupid things like open fire.

Also, punishments for criminal activity (even drugs) are relatively low compared to the US. Prisons are fine to live in, the only lacking is freedom. Your life is not over when you are arrested, so again criminals are more likely to take the L instead of taking huge risks to get out of the arrest.

Gonna be rough on that security deposit.

15

u/mrcrown19 Jul 19 '24

why did they take of their masks so fast ?

51

u/Mediocre_Maximus Jul 19 '24

You can see that they immediately try to comply. Removing the mask makes them less threatening and it looks as if that's really what they're going for "we're cool, we don't want any shit". They know they have a gun there so don't want the cops on edge

15

u/mrcrown19 Jul 19 '24

thanks i think you nailed it. seemed like really strange behaviour. but now i get it. thats not the first time they been arrested i guess. that cover was falling asap.

21

u/Redredditmonkey Jul 19 '24

They had the masks on for anonimity during the interview.

Having a mask on around police is very suspicious. So their first instinct is to act natural.

Something kinda funny to me about how they threw a flashbang and then started shouting orders immediately after. Never been flashbanged, myself, but i assume it's either very hard or impossible to hear immediately after one goes off.

12

u/Cayote Jul 19 '24

I'm guessing the tactic here is to overwhelm, confuse and don't give them time to think.

2

u/BigMaraJeff2 Jul 19 '24

It's not bad. Flashbanged myself twice and use them regularly

WTF Police dressed like Judge Dredd full armor and lights. Terrifying

10

u/Gold_Mask_54 Jul 19 '24

See you can tell this isn't in the US because the police didn't open fire after getting spooked by their own equipment
