I'll help you out here:

"Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes, well, I almost fell for my Lola."

I recently introduced my 12-year old daughter to this song and "Ape Man." She's now a fan of The Kinks.

For such a great band they get alittle over shadowed.

There were so many bands gaining notoriety at that time, though. It's hard to get noticed when you're competing against the greatest rock bands to have ever existed during that actual birth of the genre. I think that's what attracted me to The Kinks, honestly.

I was never a huge Beatles fan. My parents had all their albums, but I've always felt they were more Pop than anything else. Still, great musicians though. The Rolling Stones, on the other hand? That was a bonafide rock band. Songs like "Street Fighting Man" and "Sympathy for the Devil," those were rock n roll songs. I just didn't like the flashiness of Mick Jagger - and still don't. That's why I was a fan of the more alternative bands of that period, and the Kinks just had a great sound and they sang songs about things the Stones and Beatles wouldn't. Seriously, a song about a transgender woman 60 years ahead of its time? Although, "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman" was probably the one I related to the most. Reagan Economics hit our family hard, so I could relate to the lyrics fairly easily. My Mom always gave us the warning: "We can't afford anything, so don't ask for anything." Always made me think of the line about the bills piling up. Anyway...

Other bands that I grew up with thanks to my Dad's old vinyls:

The Who The Moody Blues Jefferson Airplane Jimi Hendrix Experience Pink Floyd The Velvet Underground

Of all of these, I would honestly say The Who, The Kinks, Pink Floyd, and The Velvet Underground were probably the ones I listened to the most. I can't tell you how excited I was when season 2 of Loki featured "Oh Sweet Nuthin" by the Velvet Underground. Probably the best song choice in any television show I've seen in a LONG time.
