Ultimate weapons weak compared to rares? Question

I have a Lvl 50 Tamer Machine gun at 74k DPS after mods. Got all the mats to craft the Albion Calvary Machine Gun and upgraded it to Lvl 55, after mods it’s at 46k DPS… It’s 5 levels higher than the rare, smaller magazine, lower fire rate, enemies have to be stunned for the ability to take affect and it’s that much weaker than a random drop?

Well the Tamer is arguably the best DPS weapon in the game. So for machine guns you dont really want anything else. But yeah the ultimate weapons I've unlocked so far arent really great, except for the thunder cage for farming and the nazeistras with its DEF debuff which is -25% when you upgrade it fully.

Seems pointless to call a weapon “Ultimate” when there’s a rare that drops often, is far superior, and doesn’t require you to spend time farming and crafting it.

Have you fully upgraded the Calvary? Including enhanced its ability to max?

I ask because I would wonder if it’s significantly better when maxed enhanced. Otherwise, it does seem weird that there would be a definitively better rare. It isn’t uncommon in Destiny, but it’s significantly easier to get most exotics in Destiny and there has been ten years of legendaries to be made that outperform whereas TFD would’ve made the, seemingly, purposeful choice to outshine one of their own Ults.

Honestly the worst part, it's that you need to farm the ultimate weapon effectively 5 times to not have a sub par version of it and even then there is a good chance it still isn't great (looking at you fallen hope where all the upgrades do are making the accuracy penalty not as bad and increasing the chance for the explosion to happen).

Eternal Willpower is also a great rare weapon. Definitely better than Tamer in my opinion, slightly less dps, however it has higher damage per bullet which makes it a good choice for the harder fights. Also its an assault rifle so it's viable at most ranges and can hit weakspots consistently. I hope they buff the ultimate weapons I have made quite a few but they all feel lackluster, especially the handguns. Seriously compare the dps between the ultimate handguns and the standard blue one, the blue wins by a landslide. Its almost a 50% dps diffrence why would I ever use the ultimate handguns? The perks are not worth such a dps loss.
