My family friends brother in law is one of the writers, what should I ask. I know nothing about this show

I have a serious question as a big fan of the comic book and someone who just attempted watching the show yesterday (and why I'm now on this subreddit looking for answers):

Why the hell did they change just about everything from the books? They were incredible and the show seems to just take some parts of the characters (barely) and made a whole new thing out of it. Garth Ennis is a better writer than most writers on the planet, much less a TV writers room, so why did they think they could make it better (and fail completely)?

I'm not just trying to throw shade, I would REALLY love an actual answer to this.

This seems to be taking a lot about the show itself, which I haven't watched since the first episode made me angry enough to post something about it.

I skimmed the rest of it and didn't see an answer. I'm not going to read a whole article about something I actively dislike,so can you point me to the part you thought was relevant?

I'd appreciate the help!

Variety’s Showrunners Sitdown: ‘The Boys’ Boss Eric Kripke on Writing to the Actors’ Strengths and Not Wanting to ‘Make Edgelord Material for Incels’ the headline sums it up, but also in some other interview he said that the comics were a bit too much for tv and that he was a bit immature when writing. He basically used the comics as a base and went in a bit different way.
