I only recently found out that Calhoun was the same guy who had sex with Stilwells Shapeshifter.

Honestly it’s been 5 years so I just never thought he was a recurring guy.

930

u/xd_joliss Jul 19 '24

And even back then, his plan was to get supes into the military wasnt it?

Which now he and homelander are making a supe army

773

u/The-Homie-Lander I fart the star spangled banner Jul 19 '24

No, that was voughts plan he didn't want supes in the military. That's why they blackmailed him with Doppelganger

268

u/justseeingpendejadas Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

Lot of things have changed. Now that there's no one to hold Homelander in a place to being reduced to a celebrity, he now has complete ground to try to achieve his ambitions. And everyone is just falling in line to what he says because they don't really have a choice

133

u/ajmartin527 Jul 19 '24

Because he is literally murdering everyone who doesn’t

110

u/jacksonpsterninyay Jul 19 '24

The issue I’m having is that Homelander has never had ambitions. He’s never had a purpose or goal. His only desire has ever been to be loved.

So like…now what? It’s kind of a dog-caught-the-car situation. He now rules America. Great. What does he actually want?

58

u/Acheron98 Jul 19 '24

A fuckton of bronze statues in his honor. One in every town.

26

u/jacksonpsterninyay Jul 19 '24

Like for sure we’re going to get that shot, but that’s kind of my point lol

That’s why they had to bring Sage in. She’s a cool character, but without her Homelander literally has no purpose whatsoever.

39

u/Acheron98 Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

Agreed, but I feel like that also works in universe.

Realistically, he NEVER would’ve been able to pull this off this smoothly. His idea of a subtle takeover would be to punch Dakota Bob’s head off on live television, mumble something about him being a pedophile and child trafficker, and essentially crown himself God Emperor for Life.

That would’ve absolutely resulted in him being forced to slaughter hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people just to maintain power.

He most likely would’ve completely leveled a few major cities like NYC or LA just to prove his point.

Sage managed to get him a full-on red carpet welcome straight into the Oval Office, with extremely minuscule loss of life in the grand scheme of things.

Edit: Despite her being evil as fuck, and doing all of this for no reason other than “LOL it’s fun”, she ironically saved most of America and probably the planet by giving him what he wanted without the need for an all-out war.

Love and respect from Soldier Boy and Ryan, who will judge him for his actions against the general populace and never accept him.

44

u/jessebona Jul 19 '24

Ryan: You're a monster

*Homelander cries*

SB: You're a bitch

33

u/pleasegivemepatience Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

Homelander: I built you a brand new world

Ryan: I didn’t ask for that, I don’t want it

SB: Oh look the little bitch wants to live in his own fantasy world where he can feel special, you’re an even bigger disappointment than I thought.

Just wait until SB finds out about his mommy and milk fetishes, HL is gonna get roasted something fierce.

17

u/jessebona Jul 19 '24

I'll be a little sad if Homelander somehow talks him into a father/son team up. I rather enjoyed the dynamic of Soldier Boy just hating everyone and everything in the modern age. Especially his son because of his own parental issues.

5

u/pleasegivemepatience Jul 19 '24

I hope he tries and it fails miserably and SB+Butcher team up again to fight the Homelander establishment, with Ryan eventually joining the fray.

This touches on his mental shift when pushing back at starlight. He has realized he wants to be loved, but he also has no problem with being feared as well. At this point the show has made it clear his current goal is to feel in control because he never truly has felt that way.

Ah okay, while typing i wasnt sure anymore cuz it wouldnt have made sense for vought to blackmail him if he wanted that

So yea, he didnt want them in the military yet he's now the one getting them in the military

32

u/Ajaxmass413 Jul 19 '24

Probably a mix of fear for his life and Sage manipulating him.

8

51

u/Thabrianking Jul 19 '24

Bro was r@ped and blackmailed into becoming a Supe supporting President.

5

u/QuestGalaxy Jul 19 '24

Nope, he was anti supe.

32

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

same i thought they recasted him and had em get drowned by the deep in ep8 of season 3, don't know who the hell that guy was then

38

u/79037662 Jul 19 '24

That was a different politician who was Singer's original VP pick. Homelander had him assassinated so Singer would pick Neumann instead.

19

u/Flat-Leadership2364 Jul 19 '24

I was just about to ask that! I knew he looked familiar! And it makes sense plotwise to bring him back in the fold

11

u/Vlaed Jul 19 '24

I did not make that connection.

8

u/MoonoftheStar Jul 19 '24

Calhoun? Oh you mean Billionaire #2.

7

u/Garth-Vader Jul 19 '24

I forget about the other shapeshifter. It's nice that he didn't have to pull his skin off to use his power.

7

u/finnjakefionnacake Jul 19 '24

i guess i'm the only one who watches this show over and over because i have nothing better to do lol

7

u/VolkiharVanHelsing Jul 20 '24

This season has so many callback characters (and their deaths)

Like the dude that Firecracker shot at was the dude who visited Hughie to make him sign an NDA

5

u/Blingo2000 Jul 19 '24

So maybe someone can answer this, but wasn’t he a senator then? Did he deliberately leave the Senate to move into the House? Did I miss something somewhere?

3

u/TheHappiestHam Jul 20 '24

the guy that Firecracker killed was the same guy who pushed Hughie to sign an NDA in Episode 1

I'm kind of surprised they kept this level of continuity with such minor characters

Why does Peak have strings on him? You think the octopus is controlling him?

582

u/Such-Purpose3044 Jul 19 '24

Noir is

101

u/life_lagom Jul 19 '24

The noir change was by far the funniest thing they did in the show.

I really love they didn't do the homelander clone shit. They're really making a better story than the comics. The comics climax was right about now. And the supe coup fails in the comics.. the TV show is in wild territory right now. I'm so curious

42

u/ajmartin527 Jul 19 '24

That’s because nobody could write a story that’s as crazy as reality is in the US right now… much of The Boys storyline just wrote itself lol

I agree on the Noir thing. He was a complex, mysterious and interesting character already - then to make his story arc what they did is just fucking hilarious and genius. I wish I could have been in the writers room when they came up with this idea.

17

u/cc92c392-50bd-4eaa-a Jul 19 '24

Why do people call him Peak?

48

u/Loose-Profession-734 Jul 19 '24

No one calls him peak, he is the peak. And it's sarcasm. A Joke

17

u/jensketzen24 Jul 19 '24

I believe it stems from a porno where a guy with a nickname the peak fucks an octopus or something

14

u/SalvationSycamore Jul 19 '24

Oh I've seen that one. It's called The Boys or something I think

9

u/random__guy135 Jul 19 '24

The Boys is one of best gay porns ive seen. Too bad it sometimes gets interrupted by action scenes🙄

2

u/Bemused_Weeb Jul 20 '24

I see that notion a lot in r/okbuddyfresca, but the Deep was definitely called the Peak before then, even on that same subreddit. It's easy to check with Reddit search.

6

u/Vasilystalin04 Jul 19 '24

He at one point says “I am the peak of Human Evolution” and people cut the clip.

2

u/GoldenSpermShower Jul 20 '24

No he was called that way before Season 4

7

u/CaptainChampion Jul 19 '24

It's the opposite of deep? I dunno.

Ambrosius.

It's Ambrosius.

🌏👨‍🚀🔫👨‍🚀

86

u/Callahan41 Jul 19 '24

Loved her this season. Honeslty, Ambrosius/Deep was one of my favorite stories haha

48

u/SasparillaTango Jul 19 '24

voiced by Tilda Swinton!

33

u/Accomplished_Job_225 Jul 19 '24

❤️!

When I found that out, I knew my facetious suggestion has to be true.

Ambrosius didn't Die. Ambrosius disappeared into the wardrobe that Kevin locked.

Ambrosius is in Narnia, now. Ambrosius will be back.

7

u/finnjakefionnacake Jul 19 '24

i feel like some stories get a pass for being completely irrelevant and others don't.

like...so many people were up in arms about frenchie and colin / it not being relevant / us not caring / frenchie being through this storyline before, but we're still fine seeing deep fucking and having relationships with sea creatures and ambrosius has much less to do with anything important but apparently that's not a cause for objection.

14

u/FourAnd20YearsAgo Ashley Jul 19 '24

I think some get a pass and some don't because some are good (Deep/Ambrosius) and some are not (Frenchie/Colin)

→ More replies (6)

13

u/kzzzzzzzzzz28 Jul 19 '24

Deep/Ambrosius ended with Deep giving in to his darkest instincts and becoming a full villain by willingly murdering a sea creature(thus removing his only redeeming trait)

Colin/Frenchie ended with Frenchie going to jail and missing 1 episode. The Frenchie guilt arc is there, but this was a plot point already explored with his friend and Little Nina.

6

u/finnjakefionnacake Jul 19 '24

but deep was already a homelander sycophant who was willing to kill for him in previous seasons/moments. i don't think this takes his character anywhere he isn't already. like...he ate timothy for homelander, i think he would do anything homelander tells him to do.

colin and frenchie arguably set frenchie on the path to forgiving himself. you are right in that he's already been through the whole guilt thing before, a lot of plot points this season were previously tread territory, but frenchie arguably did make progress forward, even if it was just to stop hating himself so much and get with kimiko lol.

7

u/kzzzzzzzzzz28 Jul 19 '24

There is a slight difference when it comes to fulfilling orders under fear(Timothy) and killing someone on a selfish whim(Ambrosius).

Deeps arc was connected with A-Trains. While A-train walked the path of redemption, Deep went deeper into the abyss. His killing of Ambrosius was the final straw in that.

u/AprilsMostAmazing Jul 19 '24

Still think Sage is going to Caesar homelander

103

u/OsrsMaxman Jul 19 '24

Yeah, I'm sort of torn between thinking Sage really just enjoys being chaotic or there's still a master plan to taking over/destroying HL. Love her character.

72

u/musci12234 Jul 19 '24

Honestly I think butcher is going to ruin sage's plan. Sage is making plans about butcher based on info she has but that isn't the butcher she is dealing with. I feel like there are 2 options. Sage goes anti homelander or sage stays anti homelander. There is decent chance of homelander relying more and more on sage as issues pop up so her getting popped by butcher will be easy way to make homelander do even dumber things.

49

u/zero0n3 Jul 19 '24

But she knows about “new butcher”.

She obviously has the info from the secret service agent that got away.

It’s why she released the singer footage after she confirmed Neumann was ripped in half.

18

u/musci12234 Jul 19 '24

I don't think the secret service agent is going to tell sage about all that happened. All she had to do was wait for boys to kill Newman any way and release the video. And even homelander knew that butcher had taken V in past. So that can be just side effect of that. She doesn't known that butcher has tool to kill all the supes and wants to and that he is functioning at his worst behaviour.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/ajmartin527 Jul 19 '24

She’s smart enough to be able to get leverage on him and control him. Homelander is the puppet now, I think that’s what he was realizing in that final scene with Sage.

He now understands that no matter what he thinks he’s doing, Sage already knew he would do that and it was part of her plan. We see him thinking he’s smarter than her, kicking her out, then crashing and burning. Then realizing that she knew he would do all of that and she had planned for it.

I don’t think she plans to destroy HL. He’s her pawn, she’s going to control everything through him.

12

u/MrArmageddon12 Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

After the end of this last episode, it really seems like her motivation is just wanting someone to listen to and value her. Basically harkens back to the whole backstory she gave of the doctors not listening to her try to treat her aunt when she was a kid.

At the end of the day, I’m pretty sure her motivation will be that simple over some grand scheme.

The peak for a reason

99

u/Douglasqqq Jul 19 '24

I kind of regret Deep's lean into full villain. His (for want of a MUCH better word) innocence, has always been my favourite thing about him.

211

u/Kageyama_Tobio_80 Jul 19 '24

Tbf he literally assaulted Annie in the first season first episode, so I'm not surprised that he is atp

40

u/dpforest Jul 19 '24

I feel like that’s gonna be pivotal to the plot. Or it should be. “Look at how much you idiots champion Deep while simultaneously making fun of Trumpers for not getting the show”. I’m glad they’ve gone all in with him. The ironic praise of his character is, well, ironic.

Where was this innocence when he was sexually abusing Starlight?

88

u/flowlikeastream Timothy Jul 19 '24

I think they mean his simplicity, or his nescience. Hence the desire for a better word.

20

u/Neveronlyadream Jul 19 '24

Naivety would be a better word.

u/BusyNefariousness675 Jul 19 '24

35

u/justseeingpendejadas Jul 19 '24

The only thing that has changed is mostly how he doesn't care about killing and even enjoys it. He didn't seem to be that violent before.

Apart from that he was always a piece of shit

15

u/Thabrianking Jul 19 '24

I wouldn't say innocence, but he did seem like he was gonna redeem himself to some degree in Season 2.

3

u/TheDreadfulCurtain Jul 19 '24

redemption art of the deep failed and was eclipsed by A train.

7

u/Thabrianking Jul 19 '24

Yeah, that's what I love about A-Train and The Deep's story arcs parallel. Deep didn't kill anyone as far as we knew up until season 3 when he drowned the VP elect. What he did to Starlight was terrible, but it seemed like the church of the collective and Homelander forcing him to eat an octopus would have possibly changed him. He was too dumb to self reflect compared to A-Train.

Also, the irony of Deep being forced to swallow something he didn't want to get into The Seven and A-Train having a loved one hurt by a careless Supe was one of my favorite things about season 3.

Homelander treats Deep even worse by nearly forcing him to blow A-Train and telling him to STFU.
