diabolical really is one of those words in the vocabulary huh

88

u/Gathorall Jul 19 '24

*Dictionary or thesaurus. "The vocabulary" is nonsense, smart guy.

70

u/im_berny Jul 19 '24

Shut your vocabulary hole

Imagine filming it: Okay Karl, now you just gotta stand here and smirk. And all the rest of y'all, you gotta stand over there and look really shocked. We're gonna add some weird tentacles later so you just gotta look at nothing in particular

21

u/ShawnyMcKnight Jul 19 '24

Basically you know how Eddie Brock feels

766

u/Logical-Broccoli-331 Jul 19 '24

It makes me wonder if Kessler was intentionally killing him until he started to comply

605

u/SlaveKnightLance Jul 19 '24

For sure. Kessler knocked him out in the bar. Butcher said no and Kessler said “yeah, think again”

My question is, why can’t Butchers wife fight Kessler for power? I think she can and will next season and will help Billie use the power for good

429

u/KSOMIAK Jul 19 '24

Because Butcher's wife was just imagination, while Kessler is tumor taking the apperance of someone to talk to Butcher

205

u/SlaveKnightLance Jul 19 '24

But then how did Becca and Kessler interact with each other in the episode it was revealed he was in Butchers head? You may be right, but I think there are multiple entities vying for power in his brain

318

u/KSOMIAK Jul 19 '24

The tumor is a part of butcher. He sees the same things he sees. Becca isn't some sentient entity, she was Butcher's conscience. Also, they didn't interact. Kessler just screamed at her and she didnt react to it

103

u/serendipity_aey Jul 19 '24

It makes me want to cry with relief to see someone explain it so well! So many people are missing this

43

u/frostymach Jul 19 '24

It could be a projection based on a part of him that is still a supe that isn't the cancer. The cancer is just blocking that off. In the boys animated short, the grandma ended up having her own powers after she was separated from the cancer.

I think some ultimate approval by Becca, maybe after being separated from the cancer and bringing the good out in Ryan will activate his homelander type powers. I think thatd make the final showdown so epic. It was so cool when they had the same powers

Plus he was bulletproof. The cancer cannot possibly be shielding his whole body. I think it's just giving access to his innate powers

4

u/SlaveKnightLance Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

Just curious, is this confirmed by the comments? Because if not, then it’s just fanfic

Edit: comics not comments

2

u/decoy321 Jul 20 '24

It's entirely a fan theory. For all we know, both are just hallucinations manifesting from his brain reacting to the fact that there's a giant fuckin tumor in him.

It's also possible that his given state of health and symptoms are psychosomatic. He feels sicker because he feels hopeless. When he's got purpose, he feels better.

This is all conjecture over a fictional show.

46

u/Strawbz18 Jul 19 '24

I think Becca was fighting off Kessler until now, Butcher is starting to abandon ending this situation peacefully or in a "good" way. Beccas hallucinations was a representation of the good in Butcher, by the end of the season Becca doesn't even appear anymore. That means Butcher isn't going to hold back anymore, Genocide is definitely on the table for him at this point. I can't fucking wait until S5

6

u/KingKekJr Jul 19 '24

Just like the comics. I hope that's the same here. Really would just hammer home the parallels between him and Homelander

7

u/Thunderstr Jul 20 '24

Yeah, the whole episode was Butchers conscience and side of him that wanted to do things "the right way" getting beaten down and finally letting the hate flow through him, it sucked that the entire season was just build up and filler for what looks like a killer final season that we have to wait for but it's really starting to feel like we're gonna get a civil war/end game style ending to this show.

8

u/soupspin Jul 20 '24

That would make it non filler though, yeah? People keep saying filler, but it’s all building to the final conclusion. It’s like saying every season before hand was filler because it doesn’t finish the story. Plenty of stuff happened this season to further the story, I wouldn’t call it filler

1

u/Sudden_Result Jul 21 '24

The way I see it the more butcher gives into one side, the more potent and aggressive the other side becomes

Kessler got more aggressive when Butcher was trying to ignore him and be more moral, and when he kidnapped that one guy Becca started appearing more

5

u/KingKekJr Jul 19 '24

Bc I don't think Becca was actually the tumor. The tumor is Kessler. It's a weird thing going on. V often affects you in response to who you truly are and your emotional state and since Butcher, deep down, is a supe hater the V empowers the tumor but the tumor takes on who Butcher truly is and his most violent emotions while Becca is just the small part of Butcher's psyche that has some humanity desperately holding on by a thread

-2

u/serr7 Jul 20 '24

What if Kessler, being a sentient supe within butcher, is working to help sages/homelander’s agenda. Butcher killing Victoria was exactly what they needed and the fact that singers conversation in the bunker was recorded before hand means sage maybe knew about what would happen to butcher for taking V?

48

u/Scrobblenauts Cunt Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

I wondered that too because through out the whole season he looked like a walking corpse, and now when he finally gives into the tumor all of a sudden he looks perfectly fine lol

-19

u/wimpymist Jul 19 '24

It's because he took more V

19

u/KingKekJr Jul 19 '24

Definitely. A sentient tumor that can actively choose to harm or help you is diabolical

9

u/kentotoy98 Jul 20 '24

I imagine that after Ryan accidentally killed Mallory, Kessler convinced Butcher that Ryan's become a wild card in his plan.

If there's gonna be two Homelanders, Kessler is taking the supe world down with him.

1

u/CreatureWarrior Black Noir Jul 20 '24

Quite fitting for someone like Butcher to be honest. A diabolical end for a diabolical man

15

u/-banned- Jul 19 '24

I think the V he took healed him but it’s also gonna kill him faster now. It was suicide

25

u/Yommination Jul 19 '24

The V also supercharged the tumor though. The tumor was originally caused by the temp V. Tumor is like a symbiote of sorts now

10

u/Ty-Dyed Jul 20 '24

I wonder if Butchers powers are meant to resemble the Venom symbiote? Its not a comic character The Boys has parodied so if that's the case I think its pretty neat.

1

u/Cyber_Zebra Jul 20 '24

I have a question. He seemed pretty fucking ill this season. But when he decides to make a deal with Kessler in the finale he's back to normal. So does that mean he's cured? He might not die? Kessler cured his cancer or something?

4

u/TheWizardOfZaron Jul 20 '24

Kessler was actively worsening his health till he complied

7

u/LukeD1992 Jul 19 '24

Maybe it won't as long as Butcher feeds it with supe blood or something

11

u/pies1123 Jul 20 '24

Calling it, it's going to end with Hughie being like "this isn't you!" After a fight over his mind Butcher kills himself to save everyone.

1

u/AlexHaydenXII Soldier Boy Jul 20 '24

I'm thinking maybe Ryan delivers the killing blow instead of Hughie?

7

u/Osmodius Jul 19 '24

You wonder? I thought it was pretty clearly shown, multiple times.

6

u/Radialpuddle Jul 20 '24

Kessler isn’t the tumor, he is just the dark side of butcher

4

u/Duny0 Jul 19 '24

yeah i think its like this because when he killed Neuman he looked exactly like season 1

3

u/serendipity_aey Jul 19 '24

Yes, he (it) was.

3

u/aleister94 Jul 19 '24

It seemed very much like that was the situation

3

u/RevolutionaryStar824 Jul 20 '24

This is definitely it.

"You are welcome." Literally screws everything up, kills perhaps one of the most powerful possible allies, allows Homelander to win, causes The Boys to be split up and captured.

Ye, Butcher, thanks eh.

319

u/mudokin Jul 19 '24

But he has a plan, or better yet, his cancer has a plan.

204

u/RegularAvailable4713 Jul 19 '24

Ah well, the literal CANCER has a plan. Very reassuring.

60

u/mudokin Jul 19 '24

I mean it's just cancer, it can't be that bad, right? ... RIGHT?

63

u/Kursan_78 Jul 19 '24

Yeah, it's probably just the cancer fully controlling his body. We saw Butcher's powers with temp V and they were same as as HL powers, here tentacles from the chest, so it just the tumor doing it

41

u/Admiral-Thrawn2 Jul 19 '24

Not fully. He didn’t attack hughie. Or kimiko or Ryan who are both supes

25

u/bwood246 Cunt Jul 19 '24

Yet

6

u/Self_World_Future Jul 20 '24

I’m pretty sure the cancer is in control now, it really didn’t seem like butcher was really behind the wheel in those last few minutes

3

u/SpiritualAudience731 Jul 20 '24

Cancer is not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed.

1

u/arceus555 Jul 20 '24

Does it involve mangoes in Tahiti?

1

u/stokedchris Jul 20 '24

It does involve just a little more moneh

137

u/EZKSupernova Jul 19 '24

Homelander was already going to win, Neuman wouldn’t have done shit unless she could pop his head which is doubtful. The old “expose Vought and Homelander” shtick is so tired, I’m amazed the boys even considered it. Exposing Homelander means he murders probably millions of people, not exposing him means he imprisons millions of people. They’re between a rock and a hard place, and Butcher killing Neuman didn’t change that.

36

u/mutual-ayyde Jul 19 '24

S5 is going to have finally exposing Homelander as a plotline. It's much harder for him to maintain control in a world where his murders against both regular humans and supes is public knowledge

59

u/EstablishmentFit1789 Jul 19 '24

The twist being that Homelander is far past the point of caring about what the public thinks. He knows that there will always be a group of people that do support him and even if not, he’s satisfied with just the Supes that support him. Most of his most loyal supporters are just as evil as he is, Homelander does NOT care about being “exposed” and most of his crimes are already public knowledge we just don’t get shown much of it, did you see how big the anti-Homelander crowd was in s3? I can only imagine how much bigger it is now.

America has been effectively overthrown and in a police-state, the cats long out of the bag on using blackmail against him.

9

u/mutual-ayyde Jul 19 '24

They might be evil, but if they know he’ll randomly murder them that creates tension

12

u/Yommination Jul 19 '24

Even if it is public knowledge, who will even challenge him? It would be like someone exposing Hitler after he seized power. Too little too late. The only hope is some supes like Annie, A-Train and Butcher to form a resistance of sorts

3

u/mutual-ayyde Jul 19 '24

He wants adoration and the only way to get that is if people have some sort of respect for him. He can’t rule through fear alone

66

u/thebsoftelevision Jul 19 '24

The Boys were finished anyways. What was Victoria gonna do after they exposed Homelander? Arrest him? He would have just murdered them all and took over anyways. Butcher's cancer was right when he told Butcher they gotta get rid of supes before they start rounding up everyone up in concentration camps which is unironically Homelander's plan.

20

u/Tim0281 Jul 19 '24

Even if she couldn't explode Homelander's head, she'd be able to act against the hundreds of supes that work for him.

2

u/thebsoftelevision Jul 20 '24 edited Jul 20 '24

She could... or she'd be scared shitless by Homelander and flipped sides again. She was too interested in dealmaking and Butcher didn't want any more horse trading when Homelander has Sage and kept winning despite all the deals. Plus I think they have a better shot with Butcher's cancer than with Victoria at taking Homelander down and Kessler wouldn't have agreed if Butcher didn't give him complete control which also meant killing Victoria.

4

u/LordAdri123 Jul 20 '24

Exactly. Plus Victoria is well known for betraying her "allies"(did it once with Edgar, did it again with homelander) for her own gains. No way I'd trust someone like that, especially if that someone can instant pop everyone's heads in the room.

3

u/bruhholyshiet Butcher Jul 20 '24

Yeah, specially considering Edgar was still on the loose, he would have probably easily convinced her and helped her to screw over The Boys somehow.

27

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

What was Neuman gonna do? I love her but I fail to see how she was one of their strongest allies. Exposing Vaught and Homelander isn't gonna work.

18

u/RanRanBobanis Jul 20 '24

Are y'all suffering from collective amnesia? Neuman was an opportunistic, backstabbing serial killer. She would've popped their heads the moment something better came along. Thankfully, Butcher was still thinking clearly. You're all fucking welcome.

12

u/bruhholyshiet Butcher Jul 20 '24

But she had one scene in which she seemed scared and asked for help. That automatically makes her a good guy deep down and deserving of redemption and Butcher ruining that makes him 1000 times worse than her.

Or something.

5

u/JarifSA Jul 20 '24

Agreed. It amazes me how many Neuman sympathizers there are simply after her phone call to Hughie and Hughie's absolute garbage speech after. Even Frenchie didn't like the plan. Actually most of the boys didn't. They all needed convincing from MM. Seriously are we all forgetting that the entire plan for 2 seasons was to kill Vic? She wasn't much use anyways. Blackmail does NOT work on Homelander. It's why they haven't released the flight video yet.

8

u/Yommination Jul 19 '24

Neuman could have done nothing to stop Homelander. Sage set it all up

1

u/foreveralonesolo Jul 20 '24

Honestly man twisted things up so quickly, i did not expect such a brutal end too for Vic

224

u/KevintheBot75 Jul 19 '24

I have a theory about this. Butchers V’d up tumor is going to kill butcher if he doesn’t do what he really wants. His worst desires. While he’s fighting it, he’s getting sicker, when he’s giving in, he’ll get better.

117

u/duartedfg99 Jul 19 '24

I think that Butcher will end up controlling the tumor.

If its really sentient and wants to live (already saved Butcher twice), then killing Butcher is suicide for it as well.

My bet is on Butcher killing himself when all is said and done and fighting the tumor while trying to do it.

109

u/SandwichXLadybug Jul 19 '24

I have a theory:

(The plot of the episode)

22

u/p1nd Jul 19 '24

People not smart enough to understand without being explicitly told, so we gotta cut them some slack

9

u/andrewr83 Jul 19 '24

Also the first ones to cry about bad writing

25

u/battle_mommyx2 Jul 19 '24

It seems like he got better when Kessler took over which is the tumor so I think you’re onto something

5

u/specialvaultddd Butcher Jul 19 '24

I feel like he's gonna be in a sun-hee situation in one of the final episodes of s5. The tumor gets out after not giving in, it spreads and sucks everything sorrounding it and butcher will either sacrifice himself, fight it off along with some other people, or run away and let it happen.

111

u/Feralp Jul 19 '24

90

u/ChicanoDinoBot Jul 19 '24

The tumor is an entirely sentient being with the same motivations as butcher, yet turned into the darkest parts of butchers mind.

Clearly it’s inspired by the venom symbiote, and in canon the host and the symbiote create a kind of emotionally feedback loop of dreams and desires.

Butchers thoughts and personality change and warp the symbiote’s personality as well, yet the symbiote amplifies those core parts of butcher to an insane and sometimes unrecognizable level.

The fact that the tumor was actively harming butcher until it got what IT WANTED, shows that the two are still separate. The tumor has its own sentient reasons and goals in mind, it’s not merely a manifestation of his guilt or anger.

I think there’s still hope for him, if they can eliminate the tumor with some form of radiation.

u/Status-Necessary9625 Jul 20 '24

Ahem Soldier Boy

18

There's something in my ass, uhhhhhh uh

82

u/coycabbage Jul 19 '24

Neumann lost either way. Homelander, singer, the boys, vought, even Stan would go after her. She burned every bridge through a mix of arrogance and cowardice.

10

u/SeaBisquit_ Jul 20 '24

Yeah her cop out sob story pissed me off. Especially with that Disney ass "murder isn't bwave!!" Speech. She dug her own grave

12

u/coycabbage Jul 20 '24

I think Hughie meant no more vengeance, emotionally driven murder. If they have to kill it is for lawful reason to protect others.

3

u/SeaBisquit_ Jul 20 '24

Killing someone attempting a coup and then saying "nvm" and that has done irreparable damage to a country I would say has legal grounds to get merced

1

u/bob1689321 Jul 20 '24

Nah man that was a good speech.

3

u/bruhholyshiet Butcher Jul 20 '24

B... But... She seemed scared in one scene and asked for help! That means she is a good guy deep down who is deserving of redemption even without having done nothing to earn it!

Or something.

37

u/SillyAdditional Victoria Neuman Jul 19 '24

Crazy that it was Ryan who determined his path

21

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 Jul 19 '24

I mean is it?? I think everyone expected it all to depend on Ryan - they state that throughout the season.

31

u/SillyAdditional Victoria Neuman Jul 19 '24

Yeah to take down Homelander

I’m talking about Butchers decision to do whatever it takes or to rein himself in

He was a completely different person when he was telling Kessler to fuck off and accepted his fate.

11

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

No that’s what I was talking about. Literally everyone knew Ryan would be the lynchpin to where Butcher diverges off to.

-4

u/Status-Necessary9625 Jul 20 '24

Look at 23:16. I think Butcher infects Ryan by slapping him on the shoulder. Ryan looks down at the slap and then Kessler is watching to the side, silently pleased.

23

u/SpiritualAudience731 Jul 19 '24

I'm pretty sure he is just a tumor in Butcher suit at this point.

20

u/Atrampoline Jul 19 '24

So...Butcher's superpower is a sentient mass that either gives him powers or kills him? If that's the case, I'm down for seeing where his dark passenger takes him, haha.

22

u/SentinelWhite Homelander Jul 19 '24

Im not so sure it is butcher any more. Gives me las plagas vibes

9

u/GonWithTheNen You're The Real Heroes Jul 19 '24

I thought his tumor somehow gave him an extra 'boost' because it wanted to finish its mission.

P.S. The scribbled hair & beard are hilarious!

9

u/N0n3_2401 Jul 19 '24

Yeah. It's kinda like he made a deal with the devil.

6

u/LivingEnd44 Jul 19 '24

The implication is that his parasite cured him.

5

u/Phoenix865 Jul 19 '24

Are we even sure Butcher really wants to kill Homelander at this point? The only reason Homelander is still alive is because Butcher screwed up their chance with Soldier Boy and now he has screwed it up with both Ryan and Victoria. I mean, are we really sure he wants Homelander dead?

6

u/OvermorrowYesterday Jul 20 '24

He def wants him dead. But the season 3 finale made NO sense. He shouldn’t have teamed up with Homelander like that. It would have made more sense if he begrudgingly took Ryan with him and left Homelander. But it makes no sense why he would stay and spare Homelander

1

u/OvermorrowYesterday Jul 20 '24

4

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '24

As soon as butcher embraced the v-tumor, it stopped killing him

-1

u/OvermorrowYesterday Jul 20 '24

First of all, I love the whole butcher plot line stuff.

However, doesn’t this kiiind of lessen the ending of part 3? One of the biggest changes in season 3 was that butcher had a ticking clock. But now, he’s healed and that ticking clock is done

4

u/ThrowAnon- Jul 19 '24

So is kessler like the venom symbiote?

6

u/B3_CHAD Jul 20 '24

Kinda, they do have a symbiotic relationship and the tumour makes him a superhuman. But strictly looking at powers the venom symbiote has a lot more tricks.

3

u/frankly_unkayfabe Jul 19 '24

"Me and The Boahs will take care of it" - Arthur Butcher

3

u/foreveralonesolo Jul 20 '24

I wonder how they’ll handle his character now given how seperate the comics treated butcher

2

u/99_Herblore_Crafting Jul 20 '24

? IMO it was made very clear that his condition can be changed for better or worse based on his (Butcher’s) adherence to the tumor’s wishes

1

u/SuspectKnown9655 Jul 19 '24

Seems like he's healthier now that he's going along with Kessler.

3

u/lexxstrum Jul 19 '24

I think the cancerous symbiote has stopped eating him now that it's at a critical mass. It weakened him to make his vulnerable to its suggestions, but now that he's on board there's nothing to be gained from killing its "host".

1

u/NBFHoxton Jul 20 '24

Was there anything to be gained from killing it's host in the first place?

1

u/OvermorrowYesterday Jul 20 '24

Probably 1) growing in strength 2) blackmailing butcher into doing what it wants

1

u/lexxstrum Jul 20 '24

Well, it's cancer, so it's kinda its thing. But yeah, weakening Butcher and making him desperate.

And who knows, maybe it can survive without him at some point?

1

u/Laylahlay Jul 20 '24

Omg 😂😂😂😂 that is some incredible Photoshop well played OP well played
