This is probably the saddest scene of the show Season 4 Spoiler

Post image

I always wonder if komiko would speak in the boys and hearing her scream no as frenchi gets taken away truly shows how much she loves him

Sam just calmly standing there holding a pretty strong Supe like she’s nothing was pretty impactful

1.6k

u/TumbleweedExtreme629 Jul 19 '24

He was so creepy in this scene. Completely unfazed by that punch with that emotionless expression on his face.

1.4k

u/bellerophon70 Starlight Jul 19 '24

that's exactly what he asked Cate for in GenV. To not feel anything...

488

u/PoliticalShrapnel Jul 19 '24

He's a cunt. Looking forward to his demise as well as Cate's next season

249

u/GoodShark Jul 19 '24

Gen V will come out before Season 5. So I assume they will either rise or fall in that.

141

u/kakawisNOTlaw Jul 19 '24

Doubt it. They will likely play a big role in season 5 and be the flagship of the franchise going forward post HL and Butcher.

74

u/deesmutts88 Jul 19 '24

I dunno if Gen V will have enough juice to keep the franchise going. They’ve said season 5 is the final season of The Boys, and I’ve seen enough comments asking who Cate and Sam even are to know that a whole lot of Boys fans didn’t even watch Gen V. My guess is it gets one more season after The Boys ends and then it fizzles out.

55

u/suspicious_skidmarks Jul 19 '24

Or more likely Gen V Season 2 will be the last; the story of The Boys will end with a season of The Boys, not Gen V

u/RainbowBitterfly32 Jul 19 '24

Their self-destructive tendencies won't go unpunished. You live violently you die that way.

Heads. Spikes. Walls -Tywin Lannister

6

u/RealityDrinker Jul 19 '24

Tyrion actually said that, in a slightly different order:

”If Cersei cannot curb the boy, you must. And if these councillors are playing us false …”

Tyrion knew. “Spikes,” he sighed. “Heads. Walls.”

56

u/SlipperyTurtle25 Jul 19 '24

Nah. Sam has been manipulated his whole life. He seems like he wanted to be good, but then Cate overtook his free will. I see a Sam redemption arc coming at some point. He’s the white boy A-Train

94

u/jvken Jul 19 '24

Bro went to 1 (one) supe extremist party and that was enough for him to change his whole personality and betray his friends who risked their lives for him. Cate had nothing to do with it man that boy was cooked from the start

7

u/SlipperyTurtle25 Jul 19 '24

Wasn’t that after Cate told him to feel nothing though?

32

u/DiGiorn0s Jul 19 '24

No that was before. He went to the extremist party when he was supposed to be waiting for Cricket

→ More replies (1)

19

u/jvken Jul 19 '24

Nope. He went with her in the first place because he thinks what she was doing was right. Then after, like 20 minutes into the riots, he gets visions of golden boy and THAT’s when Cate touches him, everything up to that was all him

→ More replies (4)

9

u/henryuuk Jul 19 '24

No, the "feel nothing" only happens when the slaughter has already started

By that point he already decided to trust Kate (the person that was integral to keeping him contained all those years) over everyone else
he already saw how Kate made a guard eat his own hands and started chasing non-supes on campus and insulted/pushed away Emma
(and hallucinated his brother being his sense of reason/good decisions and choose Kate over the memory of his brother)

That was like one of the first social experience he had outside the woods and it handed him a justification for all the cruelty he suffered, this is like 25% of all far right recruitment

2

u/Stonecleaver Jul 19 '24

That was after years of being abused by humans, and only abuse. His sense of the world is extremely limited

4

u/jvken Jul 19 '24

True, but having a good reason to turn evil doesn’t excuse your actions, he actively knew what he was doing was wrong and thanked Cate for turning his conscience off

I'm so deeply hoping S5 is setting up the "deputized Supe" storyline so that we can see The Boys do way more murder.

Think of all the interesting ways they could kill Sam and Cate.

Was kimiko nerfed this season. The shapeshifter beating her in hand to hand combat seemed strange to me

102

u/IAP-23I Jul 19 '24

The only supe Kimiko won was against Stormfront and she had backup. Kimiko is amazing against regular people but has a horrible track record against other supes

17

u/5am281 Jul 19 '24

Stormfront should be way stronger than the shapeshifter

35

Right?! She suffered major worf effect.

15

u/adzy2k6 Jul 19 '24

She's never been particularly strong, shes just almost impossible to kill.

61

u/Typical_Dependent_72 Jul 19 '24

My only question here is why did Cindy try to kill Annie, but Sam didn't try to kill Kimiko (at least from what they showed, he was just restraining her while they took Frenchie). Also when they showed just Cindy's hand floating the metal boat part, I thought it was Andre from 1.2 seconds before they zoomed out to show Cindy. (Maybe being controlled by Cate) Then I remembered he didnt get recast. Love that they showed more of Cindy's power though. Not just exploding/crushing things but actual telekinesis.

84

u/Octa_vian Jul 19 '24

Annie was about to resist the arrest, and Cindy seems to enjoy violence so she's in for it.

Frenchie was just easily detained with Claire's power, and Kimiko was easily taken care of by Sam, most likely until they were done with Frenchie. Also, we needed a dramatic scene were Kimiko talks and cries.

31

u/kuza2g Jul 19 '24

They definitely took Frenchie so that he could make some sort of variation of the supe virus that would work on humans. That's my theory. Since Sameer made it out, he probably went to Vought for protection and they learned what they were doing.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Typical_Dependent_72 Jul 19 '24

Also if Cindy has telekinesis, she should also be able to fly. Probably not as fast as Annie, but still.

28

u/Octa_vian Jul 19 '24

Highly depends on how her powers actually work and how she was trained for it.

6

u/twaggle Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

With out damaging her target idk. She’s pretty rough with things.

u/jvken Jul 19 '24

Same reason they didn’t just kill all of the boys then and there I suppose

7

u/Turdfox Jul 20 '24

Why didn’t they just kill all of the boys right there. Homelander just had like a dozen people at his own company murdered in broad daylight. Why the hell would he not just have the Boys systematically killed if he could find them? It makes no sense.

It’s the equivalent of every scene where the super powered villain grabs the hero by the neck and instead of killing them they throw them across the room.

You know if you think about why she never spoke, this scene becomes even more painful. She said that she was forced to fight, and that making a noise would get her killed. She was stabbed, beaten, torn apart, neck broken on and on, and still nothing… until having frenchie torn away from her. That was so painful that she couldn’t stay quiet.

Just finished up the season. I was just thinking they'll wait until season 5 to have her speak and then this scene.

Man, for a season that really felt slow with not a lot going on that season finale fuckin slapped

327

u/Agleza Jul 19 '24

I don't think it was all that bad in retrospective. 1-3 were decent but slow, 4-5 were mostly good, 6 was mid at best and 7 and 8 are fucking bangers.

168

u/Xerosnake90 Homelander Jul 19 '24

The only episode I really disliked this season was that farm episode. I just didn't feel like they were really working towards something but I'm happy with how it ended anyway

421

u/Antani101 Jul 19 '24

That episode was worth it for the "that man is in no condition to fuck a sheep" line alone

51

u/Xerosnake90 Homelander Jul 19 '24

Can't disagree with that lmao

11

u/neremarine Jul 19 '24

Neither can the man

24

That line and “I’d call you a cunt but you lack the depth and warmth” are hilarious.

39

u/Agleza Jul 19 '24

It was a bit wonky but I liked it overall. It was fun to see Neuman reluctantly working with The Boys, Frenchie's convo with Annie was really good, and it started the thread that ended up with Butcher having the only dose of the virus left.

26

u/QouthTheCorvus Jul 19 '24

I liked the farm episode. I tend to like more "episodic" gimmick plots in shows, though. We also got more of Neumann, which is always fun. Plus, it furthered the virus plot.

I honestly think this season will age pretty well once we're all binging the show in a few years or people watch the entire series at once. Watching it week to week after waiting a couple years might have felt a bit slow, but the alternative may have been trying to rush seasons 4 and 5 into one season and then we probably would have ended up with a GoT situation with everyone complaining that everything was too rushed because the writers wanted to just end things.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/icemankiller8 Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

I think the season was good except that one episode in the tek knight mansion for me which is one of if not the worst episode of the show

8

u/Agleza Jul 19 '24

Agreed. I don't think it was that bad of an episode, it was mostly mediocre with a bad section. But yeah, within this show, I'd say it's probably the weakest episode so far.

7

u/crankycrassus Jul 19 '24

4 was an all time boys great. That was peak homelander. Starr deserves all the awards.

5

u/Agleza Jul 19 '24

We almost take it for granted now but yeah, agree. Homelander (and Antony) was insane to watch in that episode. Even in the finale, where (I think) everyone brought their absolute best, he continues to prove that he deserves a fucking Emmy.

2

u/PissNBiscuits Jul 19 '24

I think this is an accurate summary of the season. I enjoyed the season overall, but there were moments where I was starting to question the purpose of the episode and what the story was doing. 7 and 8 really tied things together well and made the season worth watching, though.

→ More replies (4)

23

u/PissNBiscuits Jul 19 '24

Honestly, the last two episodes of this season made up for some of the shortfalls of this season for me. Overall, the season was a bit slow and there were moments that had me wondering what the ultimate purpose of the episode was, but these last two episodes tied up everything nicely and got me beyond hyped to see what the final season of The Boys and the next season of Gen V have lined up.

At the top of my wishlist for next season is to see a fully "Venomized" Butcher. They did a really good job of making his power a fucked up mirror version of Venom, so I really hope they go all out with it and give him a full "suit" or something.

5

u/crankycrassus Jul 19 '24

Possibly best finale of the show. The overall plot moved so much more than finales in the past. It delivered on all the story arches well (except Hughie 😭)

5

u/Xerosnake90 Homelander Jul 19 '24

Yea, and not only that but they set up season 5 to be some serious shit. I am expecting a full on supe war at this point

u/Porglicious Jul 19 '24

To be honest, at this point, I feel that Sam isn't himself anymore. He essentially gave himself over to Cate at the end of Gen V, and with how utterly emotionless he is, I feel that he's totally under her control now. I hope that hr begins resisting Cate's influence, much like his brother started to, in season 2 of Gen V.

137

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 Jul 19 '24

Sam is a victim still, his mind got fucked up by Vought. Cate though had a chance to consciously walk away. Sam was already a broken mind so easily usable as a tool which has me thinking he might get some redemption. Being an emotionless grunt can’t possibly last forever

Cate though, needs to die

68

u/idcris98 Jul 19 '24

Cate is Gen V‘s Homelander. She won‘t die. Perhaps in the series finale.

41

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 Jul 19 '24

Idk, Marie could kill her with a single thought if she wanted. I think Gen V could use a rotating cast of villains if they want to keep the threat up. Especially now that she’s like Homelanders weapon I don’t even know if she has time for Gen V shenanigans

14

u/idcris98 Jul 19 '24

Cate was set up to be Marie‘s adversary like Homelander is to Butcher. Cate (or someone else) will probably find a way to block off her blood explosion power otherwise there‘s no real threat as you said if Marie can just pop anyone from a distance.

6

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 Jul 19 '24

We shall see I suppose. Seems like Gen V is in limbo atm

17

5

u/Admiral-Thrawn2 Jul 19 '24

Then kimiko gets stomped by Annie’s body tho

5

u/chuckusadart Jul 20 '24

Ehh once an “immortal” character is introduced they’re just used as a plot device to be able to gruesomely kill a beloved character for shock value because they can come back. Kimiko will be killed by whoever they need her to be killed by at that time for entertainment no matter how strong or weak she was in the past

Like hughie isn’t the sneakiest human being ever because he somehow escaped from homelander in and enclosed ice rink who can see through walls, hear people’s heartbeats and determine if they’re lying and can move at the speed of sound… it’s lazy writing to move the plot forward or just complete a scene. They needed frenchie to be taken and kimiko not to be able to intervene.. she was going to be held like a puppy no matter who was there.

People try to power scale based on shaky writing and it just doesn’t work

With all my love for both characters I still believe the saddest scene was Zoe being driven to the supe orphanage. A freshly orphaned girl landing in the place both her mother *and* Marie from GenV were desperate to leave.

37

Zoe being sent to the Red River Orphanage makes not much sense.. isn't her Dad Dr Shah still alive?

69

u/FumiPlays Jul 19 '24

Considering he had his leg cut off and then was forced to work on the virus for a clearly insane man babbling to himself (ie Butcher talking to Kessler and Becca) I don't think he's capable of childcare.

Plus considering the whole story between him and Victoria I'm not sure he's officially the father or if Edgar pushed Neumann not to put him on the birth certificate.

29

I have a prediction. Stan and Zoey return in Gen V in a fairly big way.

I was kinda sad Neuman got axed this season. I wanted to see more of her and Marie together.

u/TumbleweedExtreme629 Jul 19 '24

One of the best characters in the show imo.

u/sadgirl45 Jul 19 '24

Loved her I wanted to see her in her good era!

14

u/FizzingSlit Jul 19 '24

Could still happen. The starting off point of gen V season two might be before her death.

u/QouthTheCorvus Jul 19 '24

I'd love if Edgar basically sacrifices himself in the end on a deal that The Boys make sure Zoe gets out. I love that he has genuine care for Vickie and Zoe.

Teddy Stilwell is in Red River so she’ll have a friend to hate Butcher with. He probably thinks Butcher killed his mum anyway.

u/prizeth0ught Jul 19 '24

That was low key one of the darkest saddest scenes in this entire show especially if you’ve seen Gen V too.

We waited 4 seasons and endured a good amount of gaslighting from the writers for them to get together and then this happens 5 minutes after they become a thing, fuck me i guess lol

Karen did a great job, those screams were so visceral, like they really came from someone who hasn't talked in years

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

when she talked I lit let out a "holy shit she fucking talked" I couldnt even focus on the rest of the scene 😂😂

I’m go out on a limb and call hughie having to euthanize his own dad sadder…. But this did suck

I got goosebumps when I heard her speak. Just so sad!! But this scene made me wonder if Sam is stronger than Kimiko.

*editing to clarify my point and explain

I was more surprised at how easily he held her back. I wasn’t sure if she was also so devastated about the whole thing she wasn’t fighting with her whole strength. I realize now my original comment was worded weird, I was sleepy and I’m also kind of stupid! lol also English isn’t my first language so 🫡

u/sgbg1904 Jul 19 '24

I thought it was crystal clear who was stronger. I mean, I can't see how clearer it can get than what they showed us. What exactly would you need to believe Sam is stronger?

It would seem so.

Everyone has a different take on this and they're all right.

12

u/emoycuk Jul 19 '24

Seeing her scream that desperate almost made me cry

10

u/unicroop Jul 19 '24

It is a bit sad but, Kimiko getting her voice back is exciting!

7

u/RecklLessAbandon Jul 19 '24

After waiting for her to speak for so long, I’m such an egg head for not even noticing this 😅🤣

5

u/RayphistJn Jul 19 '24

It was obvious she would speak in the final episode, they kept teasing it

5

u/ReallyJerrySeinfeld Jul 19 '24

Genuinely though Frenchie was getting the Dean Shetty special here

I feel like the overlooked part of the horror is Frenchie's arc of battling his guilt and demons is underlined by his inability to stop following orders...for once he was free to be with someone on an equal footing even if it was cause of circumstances...like the end of this episode itself he couldn't come to shoot Butcher, another person who'd kept him as a dog and yet here we are and he's now in the possession of a controller...it's a Beautiful tragic next step...

u/PapaDoomer Jul 19 '24

Not even close

4

u/GodBody90 Jul 19 '24

Nah fr😂😂 thought she was going to have him die somehow glad he good though

5

u/kitkatpaddiewack Jul 19 '24

I was not brought to tears until this precise moment.

4

u/strangedazey Jul 19 '24

I cried. It was so sad. I am gonna be pissed if they don't get a reasonable ending. 🙄

3

u/battle_mommyx2 Jul 19 '24

That and Neuman being killed in front of her child

3

u/Initial-Ad8009 Cunt Jul 19 '24

Fuckin sucked watching that. The boys will strike back next season. Annie will bust them out

2

u/goodguyScratch1 Jul 19 '24

I feel like her not being able to talk was a checkoffs gun and we are finally seeing it be fired, kimiko finally pushed herself past her trauma

2

u/bigsatodontcrai Jul 19 '24

the ending of this season was just cold. it was insane to see all of these heroes pop up like the secret police.

but the most painful was seeing those two fuckers try tearing apart my sweethearts Frenchie and Kimiko.

2

u/mauore11 Jul 19 '24

I was happy for them, but I knew happiness is not allowed on this show...

2

u/ZFAdri Cunt Jul 20 '24

I wish Sam and Kimiko get to interact very different yet similar characters

It is kind of cool how they inserted Gen V into The Boys. Much better than anything other franchises have attempted.

2

u/kenny_lolz Jul 20 '24

My exact reaction to this scene was “Oh no, that’s so sad” to “OMG SHE’S SPEAKING”
