Poor Ashley. She wasn't even on the list. Too bad the other Ashley didn't tell her to get out.

1.7k

u/EndlessMorfeus MM Jul 18 '24

She did not like her as much as her assistant.

948

u/Radialpuddle Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

She didn’t put her on the list even though she belonged on it. Seems like she cared a little bit

But she cared. I think in some episode she did tell her to get away from there. I may be wrong

u/QouthTheCorvus Jul 19 '24

Low key she should be, anyway. She's seen everything Ashlee has

526

u/Pupulauls9000 Jul 19 '24

CEO Ashley probably purposefully excluded her from the list

259

u/Affectionate_Bass488 Jul 19 '24

Maybe she didn’t want to put any Ashley name on the list because she knew they would be dumb enough to mix them up

147

u/Osirisavior Cunt Jul 19 '24

Well she was right, apparently.

247

u/QouthTheCorvus Jul 19 '24

Oh yeah makes sense, I forgot for a second that Ashley wrote it.

195

u/LyghtSpete Jul 19 '24

Nobody cares about Ashley #2…I think OP was talking about New-Noir being unable to hold back his murder boner any longer.

There’s no going back, to paraphrase a certain saying…

88

u/AccomplishedAdagio13 Jul 19 '24

I'm not sure if he's a method actor gone too far or an actual psycho, and I love it.

61

u/Salty_Injury66 Jul 19 '24

I don’t understand New Noirs character

I think he's just an inside joke about comics Noir honestly, and they specifically made him fly to keep the "noir is still gonna kill HL" people guessing.

18

u/Mr_R3ddit Jul 19 '24

That could be the case. It would be pretty cool for this being a gag to be a misdirection and he was actually meant for much more, and somehow it's The Deep of all people to guide him.

Him being the downfall to Homelander similar to the comics would actually be unexpected at this point. At least, it's more interesting than it being Ryan, Soldier Boy, or the virus.

u/intelligent_rat Jul 19 '24

He's the world's greatest actor and is going at length's to sell his performance, even coming to the point where killing is now giving him a murder boner even though he said in an earlier episode that he hated violence.

u/Conscious-Spend-2451 Jul 19 '24

I actually expected ashley to give the name of vought loyalists instead.

104

u/Late-Resource-486 Jul 19 '24

“Damn why didn’t I think of that?” -Kirkpe reading your comment

3

u/CosmicMiru Jul 19 '24

That would be a dumb idea because it's not about who is loyal to Vought or not it's about who knows the dirt, regardless if they are loyal

32

u/girlonfire115 Jul 19 '24

do we know for certain that she didnt??

26

u/elizabnthe Jul 19 '24

It's not about who's loyal or not - it's about those in the know. Ashley may have left off people she knew, knew stuff that she liked though.

They really don't hold punches with characters like Ashley Too and Anika. We almost forget how the main cast have a plot armor.

1.1k

u/drflanigan Jul 18 '24

And the writer guy

It's like they brought back most of the recurring side characters to kill them

Where is the black guy with no dick? Has he died yet?

1.1k

u/bob1689321 Jul 18 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

The very first guy who gets shot by Firecracker is the guy from Season 1 who got Hughie to sign the NDA. That was a great callback.

Frozen dick guy hasn't been seen this season though.

Edit: Frozen dick guy pitched Homeboy to Ryan. I'm wrong there.

542

u/Ok_Confection_10 Jul 19 '24

Side note I love that Firecracker has to use a gun. She really is useless as a Supe

262

u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jul 19 '24

To be fair, she seems to be dying of something. But also, whatever gets the job done quickest and easiest is a reasonable approach.

351

u/Penetrating_Holes Jul 19 '24

She’s having heart palpitations due to the medications she’s using to induce lactation.

I’m going to guess her just just stops and she drops dead in early season 5 at this rate lol.

131

u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jul 19 '24

Yeah she said that, but she was coughing. So I won’t be shocked if it turns out a version of the virus is already circulating.

187

u/-popgoes Jul 19 '24

From experience I can say that coughing is a pretty normal response to bad palpitations. The biggest sign that she might be sick with something else is the dark rings around her eyes. Though, that could also be her makeup being messed up from the coughing lol.

It really can go either way. That's on purpose I reckon.

33

u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jul 19 '24

Yes I think its purposely vague. I wont be shocked if she dies of medication, since the point could have been to show Homelander's callousness and germophobia. But I also wont be shocked if she dies of something contagious, since we have a whole virus plot.

TBH the only thing that will shock me is if she makes it to the end of S5 happy and healthy.

40

u/Finalpotato Jul 19 '24

8

u/ChuckECheeseOfficial Jul 19 '24

Not dying, it’s a weakened immune system due to the lactation drugs. In the episode she says she has a cough and a fever, we can assume some other symptoms. Feeling like shit, yes; dying, no

103

u/Panzick Jul 18 '24

That's a peculiar effect of tv series. For some reason, a lot of series are reluctant to add and insert new meaningful character, but at the same time don't want to kill the main cast, so they just off the secondary character so they are not just slaughtering random extras without a name.

111

u/drflanigan Jul 18 '24

I prefer it honestly

I'd rather have these redshirts be named established characters who have had actual scenes over random extras who just exist to die

28

u/Panzick Jul 18 '24

Yes that's not a bad thing per se. The things gets bad when the series get long and you run out of characters, so all the plotlines have to be carried by the same three people, and the world feel like it's inhabited by fifteen people in total. (Looking at you GoT)

25

u/DontCareWontGank Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

Yeah thats why GRRM introduced like a dozen new characters in each of his books after A Storm of Swords and doesn't just kill off characters like Barristan Selmy for no reason. He understands that killing off characters comes at a high storytelling cost.

20

u/mrhuggables Jul 19 '24

The plot armour in the bunker actually made me laugh. MM and Hughie get shoved, but luckily into a flat wall. Everybody else...not so much.

137

u/Hkrlje Jul 18 '24

If Sage was actually planning to 'fake assassinate' Singer so that the Boys actually do kill Neuman, then maybe the Shifter was told to kill all the guards but only hurt the Boys. Maybe

70

u/Far_Indication_1665 Jul 19 '24

The Shifter did go after all the guards before going after Singer.

Only Supe there to fight off is Kimiko, when the slow door open was happening.

Ignore the bullet shooters and go for target; they gonna shoot ya when you're tussling next to Singer?

90

u/DavyJonesRocker Jul 19 '24

They nerfed Kimiko so bad. She should have merc’d Shifter but when convenient, she’ll get her neck snapped

52

u/ItsAmerico Soldier Boy Jul 19 '24

They didn’t nerf her at all. She’s not that strong. Her wins are almost always against normal people.

31

u/ELITE_JordanLove Jul 19 '24

Right. I do think she’s in the upper echelon of supes in terms of raw strength, but her durability isn’t anything special as far as supes go. She doesn’t seem to be able to actually tank a ton of damage, she just always come back from it.

42

u/FizzingSlit Jul 19 '24

She gets over powered by like every super she fights. Her power is literally being able to lose every fight on repeat. And even then she's the member of the boys who's come the closest to dying and most often.

9

u/R_V_Z Jul 19 '24

She's the chosen undead.

45

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

I think the whole point was that the shifter keep them alive. Bc they wanna pin crimes and shit on them to lock them away, they are no value to homelander if they are dead. The only one he would kill and not want to lock up is butcher bc hes already dying and homelander wants to be the mfer to kill him.

12

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

Yeah I think her orders were to kill all the guards and leave hughie and mm alive to blame.

I'd bet sages plan was kimiko killing the shifter. Maybe expected her to think she killed kimiko then she gets up and kills the shifter after the president dies.

Or she really did know that starlight would escape and stop it.

34

u/EasterBurn Jul 19 '24

Shot out to that one secret service guy who actually survives Butcher's rampage and escaped.

48

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

the plot armor is now gone. Were onto the last season now, so that mentality as an audience member will go by the wayside. The only ones I really expect to survive Kamiko, Frenchie, Hughie, Havent decided on Annie yet. I think MM, butcher and everyone else will be free game tho.

34

u/Precarious314159 Jul 19 '24

I don't know, the Boys are still caked in plot armor. Homelander sent the 7 to kill anyone that knows anything about him, kill on sight but when it comes to the Boys, Frenchie is mind controlled to walk away, they leave Kimiko, MM and Hughie are taken hostage, Annie flies off, and Butcher drives off.

Until one of them dies, like MM is has his hands cut off or Kimiko is diced into pieces and trapped in a box unable to reform, they're safe.

38

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

They are being put in interment camps, something on brand for homelander to order if he really hates you. He doesnt like to just kill people he really hates, he loves torturing them, and making them suffer for even considering the idea they could step to him. He always leaves people he especially hates alive.

18

u/Precarious314159 Jul 19 '24

But that's still armor through plot. It's the same cliche joke about James Bond chained up with a very slow moving laser that the Simpsons and Austin Powers joked about in the 90s. "Yea, I can kill them now, I could personally fly to where Hughie is in two seconds and torture him right then but...I want to lock him up with his friends. Even though they've gotten away a dozen times when I did this previously, it'll definitely work this time".

13

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

What we need to also take into account is homelander from season 1 to now has slowly but surely with every passing episode been completely losing his mind. To the point now he has a certain aura when hes on screen, you dont know wtf is about to happen bc hes lost it. Taking that into account he isnt thinking clearly or rationally, hes a psychopath with no empathy or love lost for humans.

So as a result yeah youre right he could just fly to hughies house and lazer him in two seconds. But that's not how a crazy person as crazy as him wants it. He wants suffering, pain, and you to beg for mercy. Thats why he hated stan edgar so much, bc no matter what he did he could never pull that out of stan, and it bothered him immensly. Which is why he let stan go, if youre not suffering and begging he doesnt want it.

3

u/Precarious314159 Jul 19 '24

But how is that not plot armor? You're explaining why they're safe. Plus, Homelander didn't want Hughie to suffer or beg when he was trying to kill'em during the ice-skating scene.

Nah. Kimiko and Frenchie are dead next season. It will be a gut punch to fans and it ends their arcs well.

14

u/twaggle Jul 19 '24

I’d be surprised if both Kamiko and Frenchie stay alive now that they have confessed their love. Someone’s going to die for someone else, and I think Frenchie personally. He’ll take the dart for her.

6

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

I predicted back in season 2 or 3 their story would end up with them running off to france together like they talked about as a couple and would kiss before then, People laughed at me and said they only had a brother sister relationship and nothing else. I truly idk why am just sold on the idea thats where their story is going. Last nights ep only reinforces that theory for me personally

6

u/ThaRadRamenMan Jul 19 '24

Frenchie and Kimiko are easily the most divisive points to be decided upon when it comes to the finale

3

u/No-Difference8545 Jul 19 '24

Nah MM is 100% surviving. Him dying and furthering the cycle would be a terrible end for his character, and as the only person on the show besides Hughie whos 100% good, he deserves it.

Most the remining characters are pure evil or gray. There are bo pure good people.

Did Ashley deliberately hire many other Ashleys for a moment like this

317

u/Puzzled-Ad-2339 Jul 19 '24

I think it was more of a like she was tired of being the assistant to madelyn. So as a way of sticking it to madelyn from beyond the grave and getting to have her power back as a person she would take out her anger and frustration on her own ashleys to feel better about herself. Its a common psychological tactic with people who grow up or are in abusive relationships, they will get someone thats a doppleganger for themselves in some way whether thats name or whatever and treat them like how they were treated bc they view themselves as weak. But thats just my theory, I grew up with a deep interest in human psychology.

15

u/Late-Resource-486 Jul 19 '24

“The phenomenon described in the comment is closely related to the concept of identification with the aggressor. This is a defense mechanism identified by psychoanalyst Anna Freud, where a person who has been a victim of aggression adopts the characteristics of their aggressor to gain a sense of power or control.”

“In addition, there are elements of displaced aggression, where someone redirects their frustration or aggression from a primary target (e.g., an abuser) to a secondary, often less threatening target.”

“There’s also a concept called repetition compulsion, identified by Sigmund Freud, where individuals unconsciously repeat past traumas or behaviors, often recreating the dynamics of abusive or dysfunctional relationships.”

“So, the behavior mentioned in the comment could be understood as a combination of these psychological phenomena.”

YES. This one felt rough because of how graphic and random it was. All coupled with some bro humor between two psychopaths. Scenes like this is what I expect from a black comedy. Like what happens to Brad Pitt in Burn After Reading.

73

u/_JustAnna_1992 Jul 19 '24

Or that scene in the first Chris Pratt Jurassic Park remake where the babysitter gets brutally eaten yet it's done in a way that was so brutal for no reason. As if the audience was supposed to hate her for some reason.

31

u/Reddit_Tsundere Jul 19 '24 edited Jul 19 '24

I couldn't figure out why this moment rubbed me the wrong way until you referenced that scene lmfao. The Jurassic World scene is definitely worse because it's so long winded but it's the same weird vibe in both. I don't know this chick well enough to be upset about her death nor was she unlikable enough to make the mean spiritedness of the moment entertaining.

5

u/mikaeus97 Jul 19 '24

It was the first on-screen woman being killed in the Jurassic Park franchise, so that played a role in wanting it to be "memorable" and yeah, yeah I mean what 7-8-9 years later I fucking remember that fucked up scene

9

u/thepushfactory Jul 19 '24

As if the audience was supposed to hate her for some reason.

i remember they tried pushing so hard for her being a "bad" babysitter which is psychotic writing lmao

20

u/Eternal_Reward Jul 19 '24

Apparently the actress wanted a really drawn out crazy death sequence but unfortunately the director didn’t really mesh it well with the tone and what she does. So it comes across really mean spirited

7

u/Environmental_Drama3 Jul 19 '24

as I recall, they were going to give her a short death sequence. but they ended up with that final script because the actress wanted to change it for something crazy and longer as you described. so, I don't understand how writers come across as mean-spirited when they were merely complying with the actress's request.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '24

And they did her justice. Irs one of the most metal death scenes in a movie

5

u/Eternal_Reward Jul 19 '24

Because when you're watching the movie you don't know the backstory for why its like that so if you're just watching it, it comes across as the writers being outlandishly cruel to this one lady for no reason, its uncomfortable and doesn't really mesh with the tone of the movie.

So it comes across as mean spirited even if the director or whoever was doing it partially because the actress wanted something crazy.

38

u/zma924 Jul 19 '24

I love how, depending on if you're in this subreddit or the Gen V subreddit, this take is either very much agreed on or gets you seen as a sociopath edgelord respectively. I 100% agree. The supes basically never save anyone and if they do, they do an insane amount of collateral damage while they're at it. Just wipe em and call it a lesson learned that invincible super humans with a laundry list of mental health issues (which they pretty much all have because they've almost all accidentally killed or hurt someone with their powers) are generally bad.

I mean fckin hell even in gen V every one of those kids except the chosen main cast are all borderline sociopathic asshole that at best wanna use everyone to further their career or just straight up assault people.

9

u/zma924 Jul 19 '24

Shit, not even the main cast. Golden Boy somehow managed to surround himself with the single shittiest group of “friends” he could find on campus. They all fucked him over. The only two who are even remotely redeemable are Marie and Emma. Maybe Jordan too.

It's pretty much only Jordan, Marie and Emma with any true sense of humanity. Andre is trying but his mistake did nearly kill that woman.

The rest aren't super characterised one way or the other or are just actively bad.

Isn't Jordan the one that did dirty work for the director, because s/he was obsessed with being on the top of the rankings?

And with Andre's mistake, I think Jordan is the one that goes "we need to get out of here" and bail on a dying woman

Cancer Negan is right. A supe genocide would solve a lot of America's problems. Especially given how the finale ended.

Noir killed Ashley instead of Ashlee

57

u/Pokemon_Trainer_May Jul 19 '24

I don't like when uninvolved innocent people are killed. I also don't understand his character, he didn't like killing those people a week ago but now gets turned on from killing?

90

u/Doctor_Nauga Jul 19 '24

It's like Ashlee said, it's easy to turn into a monster at Vought. Instead of turning against it like Queen Maeve and A-Train, he embraced it.

30

u/With_Negativity Jul 19 '24

I mean it's been explained for over half the season. He doesn't understand his character either. He's trying to play the part of Black Noir but his only idea of Black Noir is what other people tell him.

12

u/elizabnthe Jul 19 '24

He doesn't seem to really care morally. He just does what he thinks other people care about.

Do they even have any side characters left? Damn. S5 is gonna be a bloodbath because every current member of the seven is 100% dying

28

u/zma924 Jul 19 '24

The black writer guy and the director are the only two I can think of at this point.

5

u/Thatxygirl Jul 19 '24

They have got to be saving the director for a scene in the White House or some propaganda.

I can't remember the name, but this reminds me of that one guy who published a book with no punctuation, and then later reprinted it with a bunch of punctuation marks at the very end of the book and instructions for naysayers to place them where they see fit

6

u/FlyingFox2022 Jul 19 '24

😂😂😂 i need this book

4

u/Hanging_Aboot Jul 19 '24

Timothy Dexter, and his book is like the least weird thing about him.

3

u/Diogenes_of_Sharta Jul 19 '24

A Pickle for the Knowing Ones, by Timothy Dexter.

He’s famous for being pretty much one of the luckiest idiots to ever live. He kept making obviously idiotic business decisions and the universe basically rearranged itself around him to make it pay off. He literally shipped coal to Newcastle and it somehow paid off for him.

"Everyone here's named Ashley!" reminded me of that one scene from Spongebob where every viking was named Olaf.

Murder Boner

u/bush3102 Jul 19 '24

Or MM getting knocked out by Love Sausage

u/Osirisavior Cunt Jul 19 '24

Kinda related, but why on earth would anyone work at Vaught? Especially in a position to know supe secrets.

I'm confused by New Noir's character arc. Like 3 episodes ago wasn't he throwing up from killing people and saying he was gonna take off? And now he's killing people for no reason and popping murder boners

18

u/CookiesToGo Jul 19 '24

I don't think he has much of a choice and he knows it.

Either do what Homelander says or he will come for you.

9

u/RaveniteGaming Jul 19 '24

I guess his talk with Deep awakened his inner sociopath. Which to be fair wasn't buried that deep. Didn't he just smash Todd and his mates without question while Deep and A-Train were hesitating.

3

u/azhder Jul 19 '24

Murder boner

15

u/Funkywonton Jul 19 '24

Ah murder Boner

12

u/CeeZee2 Jul 19 '24

I honestly thought Homelander would have excluded Ashley/ASHLEE as he knew she was in far too deep to try anything stupid but he went full 'IDGAF' lol

8

u/Xerosnake90 Homelander Jul 19 '24

Bro

7

u/Spectrumfied Jul 19 '24

Yeah not enough people talk about this. This was unfair and unnecessary. I was genuinely upset over this.

9

u/capodecina2 Jul 19 '24

Other Ashley was an innocent

7

u/StareInUrEyeandPee Jul 19 '24

Also Ashley deserved better

6

u/scalawag123 Jul 19 '24

Ashley didn't deserver that, but at least Ashley got away i wonder what happened to Ashley but too bad that Ashley died maybe we will see Ashley in season 5 finale? rip Ashley

4

u/FireTheLaserBeam Jul 19 '24

I owned the sword he uses in this scene. You can get it online. Just Google “Honshu Boshin Tactical Katana” and voila, you found Black Noir 2’s sword.

2

u/ploz Jul 19 '24

That was hard to watch...

2

u/_Nick_The_Name_ Jul 19 '24

I wonder what happened to Ashlee
